Gwen Van Dam, whose 70-year career as a character actress for film, television and the stage included turns in True Confessions, Halloween, Coming Home, Stir Crazy and The Trip to Bountiful, has died. She was 96.

Van Dam, who compiled about 140 acting credits on IMDb, died Dec. 19 at her home in West Los Angeles after a recurrence of cancer, her son, Dirk Smillie, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Van Dam remained a busy actress until the end, appearing on the first five episodes of Prime Video’s Homecoming in 2018, on Netflix’s Grace and Frankie in 2019 and on two installments of Hulu’s Interior Chinatown last year. She recently finished a play, too.

Her TV résumé included The Brady Bunch, Mannix, Maude, House Calls, Days of Our Lives, Moonlighting, 227, Knots Landing, Star Trek: Generations, ER, Gilmore Girls, Charmed, New Girl, Criminal Minds, Angie Tribeca and Modern Family.

According to reporting by Business Insider, a group of prominent artists took large sums of money from a pandemic relief fund called the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant that was supposed to help the arts industry.

Managed by the Small Business Administration, it was meant to keep “struggling independent venues and arts groups” afloat. Reporting suggests that the likes of Chris Brown, Marshmello, Lil Wayne and more took advantage of the grant, which offered a maximum of $10 million.

The season 12 finale of the hit Fox mystery competition series aired on Wednesday night (December 18).

The show, which began in South Korea, features celebrities singing songs while wearing costumes and face masks concealing their identities until they’re eliminated. Throughout the season, the contestants provide clues to try and help the judges and fans figure out who is under the mask.

This season also features Ambassadors, who are all alums of the series, that have a special connection to each singer and will be providing major new clues about their friends’ identities.

Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Alice in Chains, and other artists spent massive Covid relief money on luxury items, travel, and themselves, according to a new report from Business Insider.

The piece is a follow-up of sorts to a 2023 Insider story that revealed some of the big-name artists who reportedly tapped into the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (Svog) program. This program was meant to provide relief to shuttered venues and other businesses tied to the live entertainment industry — which did include the companies artists start to handle the touring side of their business.

John Legend is the 2025 headliner of this February’s Move Afrika tour. This Global Citizen initiative is the first pan-African touring circuit headlined by international artists.

The 2025 Move Afrika tour will be hosted in Nigeria and Rwanda. Move Afrika: Kigali will occur at Bk Arena on Feb. 21, while Move Afrika: Lagos will take place at the Palms on Feb. 25.

War Machine himself, Don Cheadle, is set to star in the crime thriller Canyon for Alcon Entertainment, taking on the role of a jazz-playing killer. Rapper and New Orleans native Lil Wayne says he was broken after not being hired to headline this year’s Super Bowl halftime show in his hometown.

In an Instagram video posted today, Wayne says about last weekend’s announcement that Kendrick Lamar got the February 9 gig, “It broke me, and I’m just trying to put myself back together.”

Wayne has made no secret of his Super Bowl desires over the years, and apparently thought the New Orleans angle might finally do the trick. Despite considerable social media lobbying by fans, the choice of Lamar was made by Jay-Z, whose Roc Nation company is the halftime producer, the NFL and the city of New Orleans.

An emotional Lil Wayne took to Instagram to record a video telling fans how devastated he was when he learned that he was not selected to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show at the big game ending the NFL’s season this February, having lost the gig to red hot rapper Kendrick Lamar.

On Sunday, the NFL, Roe Nation and Apple Music announced that Lamar was selected to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, which is set for Feb. 9 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
