The Fame Game
You may argue that the series that heralded Madhuri Dixit Nene in the Ott space frittered away its potential at the end but a second season may just redeem it. Yet, for the most part, this show was a perfect blend of drama, emotional heft, mystery, psychological layers, and histrionics with Dixit demonstrating why she is still considered one of the best actors to grace the silver screen. He said: “I have played the character of Jaggi Paji. My character is an important one because the entire story of ‘Babli Bouncer’ revolves around the pub.”
“Jaggi Paji is the one who brings out the idea of female bouncers to tackle the behaviour of female customers who get out of control sometimes. There is an emotional relationship between a boss and her subordinate. Jaggi Paji is also someone who promotes and motivates Babli a lot.”
He also added: “Playing a Sardar is difficult for a person who doesn’t wear a pagdi(turban) as it’s quite tight on the head. During the shoots, I used to get headaches because sometimes we used to shoot for 20 hours. But as an actor, it was...

Criminal Justice: Adhura Sach (Disney+Hotstar)
Starring Pankaj Tripathi, Shweta Basu Prasad , Purab Kohli, Swastika Mukherjee
Directed by Rohan Sippy
“Juvenile cases make me uneasy,” confesses cop Gauri Karmakar(Kalyani Mulay) to her senior as they stroll to the scene of the crime where a 12-going-on-10 year old girl has been murdered.
Gauri,if you remember, had marital issues with her husband in the second season. Men in Criminal justice don’t like their women working. Our lawyer-hero Madhav Mishra can barely tolerate his wife’s ambitions as a beautician.
Luckily , Criminal Justice: Adhura Sach doesn’t get into gruesome details of the crime. This is not to say that proceedings are conducted on a superficial level. The astutely conceived story is intriguing: the whole culture of pushing a juvenile star into premature stardom , and not allowing Zara(Deshna Dugad) to grow any older than 10 as that’s the age...

This is not the first time she will be seen playing a mother, Swastika has earlier played a mum in movies such as ‘Dil Bechara’ starring late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The daughter of late Bengali star Santu Mukhopadhyay shares how her character as a mother closely mirrors her own personality.

She added: “The only thing required is a trigger which the screenplay gives you. In the series, both the kids are going through misery and are part of a dysfunctional family, so it was important for me...

New Delhi, Oct 29 (Ians) Saqib Saleem has worked in films as well as the Ott space. The actor feels that both platforms can co-exist, and adds that Ott has created space for mid-sized films, series and documentaries.
Talking about if the digital boom can take over the cinema-going experience, Saqib disagrees. "I think both can coexist very happily. What Ott has done is it has given a lot of space for those mid-sized films, series and documentaries. But watching a film with 200 people on a screen and laughing together or feeling an emotion together -- I think that is irreplaceable," he told Ians.
He strongly believes that there will be a lot of work coming on the Ott space but there will be big ticket films coming as well.
"So, yes, there will be a lot of Ott work in the coming years but the cinema-loving audience will always be there.

Comedy Couple (Zee5)
Starring Saqib Saleem,Shweta Basu Tripathi
Directed by Nachiket Samant
For a film about two stand-up comedians there is very little to laugh about in Comedy Couple. In one sequence in a civil court the hero rebukes his friend for smoking. “Tu court mein aaya hai!”
The doped/drunk/zonked friend replies, ‘Nahin main to shirt mein aaya hoon.’
Ha ha.
Elsewhere one havaldar tells another a distasteful joke centering on a pun on the word ‘A-daab’.
I suggest you hold on to these moments. They are funnier than anything that our ‘comedy couple’ does on stage. Saqib Saleem and Shweta Basu Prasad try hard to breathe life into their characters as stand-comedians who share a live-in relationship. Their on-stage jokes are so flat I wondered if the whole stand-up routine is an elaborate gag on self-destruction.

Serious Men(Netflix)
Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui,Indira Tiwari,Nassar,Aakshath Das,Sanjay Narvekar,Shweta Basu Prasad
Directed by Sudhir Mishra
It’s about memory retention, ratta maar ke. The boy-genius played with astonishing wisdom by Akshath Das, is really not a prodigy his father is determined to prove him to be.
It’s a lethal mind-game that eventually leads to monstrous tragedy, and only the father and son are supposed know about it. Nawazuddin Siddiqui over-ambitious patriarch’s act will move, stir and terrify you. In what is arguably his finest performance to date he is chillingly real in his parental paranoia , killingly clued-in as the Tamilian Dalit Ayyan Mani, a lowly assistant at a science institute researching on alien microbes which don’t exist. Never did.
Just like his young son Adi’s prodigious mind. An invention of the modern age wherein a non-existence idea acquires authenticity by sheer repetition.

Actress Shweta Basu Prasad tries comedy in the upcoming film Comedy Couple. The experience of working in a comedy made her realize every genre comes with its charm and challenges.
"Every genre has its charm and challenges. Comedy is challenging because you have to make people laugh and I feel laughing and crying are strong emotions. So, if it is a well-written script half the job is done," Shweta said.
As an artiste, she keeps certain things in mind. "Also, as a performer you have to keep in mind the thin line between overdoing and underdoing things. It could be a great joke but if you overdo it, it might not work," she said.
"It is, of course, a collaborative effort between co-actors and that matters a lot in the comedy genre. The execution matters a lot, too," she said.
The film is being billed a comedy romance, or com-rom.

ReviewThe film is hollow in its understanding of caste and dangerously makes light of caste-based discrimination.Balakrishna GaneshanSudhir Mishra's film Serious Men opens with a song that goes "Raath kaala chaatha jis par ithne saare ched/ tezaab udela kisne is par jaanu na paaye" and as it plays, Ayyan Mani (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) narrates in the background: “I like this song very much. I don't know why. I don’t know its meaning. And a song which we don't understand can be played in all situations. Life is also such — complex. We are born without a meaning and die without one. Like how my grandfather died. While he was returning to the village on a train, he unknowingly boarded the first class compartment. And somebody jokingly said in his ears, 'Dada, you have boarded the Brahmin compartment. And he died of a heart attack'. Now what is the meaning of this?...

Just when you thought you had seen all that sums up the brilliance of Nawazuddin Siddiqui, he springs a new surprise reminding there is much more to come. He does it every time. He just did it again.
In Serious Men, Sudhir Mishra casts Siddiqui as Ayyan Mani, a Dalit migrant from Tamil Nadu in Mumbai. He lives in a one-room chawl with wife and little son, and works as a personal assistant to an important man in an important organisation.
Ayyan could be summed up by the cliches of socio-cultural constraint that such a backdrop normally brings in its wake, except that there is a quirk about the protagonist that lets Siddiqui revel in his role. Far from being one among the countless hordes that suffer silently in the dank underbelly of Maximum City, self-made Ayyan has learnt to use everything and everybody at his disposal, in a bid...

Within three weeks of release, Hostages 2 has emerged as a hit amongst audiences. There was good anticipation around what the second season would have to offer, considering the fact that the first season had closed on a cliffhanger. However, the makers played a smart card by kick-starting the second season from exactly the point where the first one had ended, and hence the overall impact of the thriller was retained.
Released on 9th September, Hostages 2 saw good curiosity built up around it days leading to the D-day, and as a result once the streaming began at Disney + Hotstar, there was a heady kick-start. Audiences were already prepared for what was in the offing and once the thrilling tale started unfolding, there was no looking back.

Actor Divyendu Sharma recently played a pivotal role in the digital film "Shukranu" that deals with the struggle of a man after sterilisation. The film, set against the backdrop of Emergency in 1975, makes the point that we need to stop practising toxic masculinity if we want to see a gender-neutral society.
"The definition of masculinity is changing, and I look at it as a positive change. With the kind of subjects that we are exploring in mainstream cinema, a dialogue has started. I mean, as a man I do not have to prove that I am a man and therefore I will not practice the age-old toxic masculinity. I am a man, I know it. I do not have to discriminate or belittle someone to prove, 'main hoon asli mard' (I am a real man). It never works," Divyendu told Ians.
