Stars: Julian Sands, Jack Parr, Arlo Carter, Erin Mullen, Kim Spearman, Alexander Arnold | Written by Andrew Prendergast, Nick Saltrese | Directed by Joachim Hedén
Notably, The Last Breath features the last performance by the late Julian Sands to reach the screen. Sadly, it’s a supporting role that doesn’t give him, or more likely his stunt double, a lot of screen time or much to do until the end of the film…
1944, somewhere off the US Virgin Islands, a German U Boat sinks the USS Charlotte. There are survivors, but where there are survivors, there are sharks. In the present, Levi (Julian Sands) has been searching for the wreck for decades, and, along with Noah he’s finally found it.
A group of Noah’s friends, Logan, Riley (Erin Mullen; Midsomer Murders), Sam who happens to be Noah’s ex, and her instantly hateable brother Brett arrive for a vacation.

Actor Julian Sands (Warlock) went missing while hiking on California’s Mount Baldy back in January of 2023, and sadly, his remains were found the following June. Just four months before Sands went missing, we reported on a film called The Last Breath, a shark thriller he was working on. He gave one of his final performances in this film – and soon, we’re going to have the chance to see that performance. Rlje Films will be giving The Last Breath a theatrical and VOD release on July 26th, and with that date right around the corner, a trailer has dropped online. It can be seen in the embed above.
Scripted by Nick Saltrese (Prayer Before Dawn), The Last Breath follows a group of college friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime dive. However, their adventure quickly turns into a nightmare as they become trapped in the darkness of a shipwreck and...

Austin Dickinson was working from a story crafted by producer Andrew Prendergast when writing the script. Here’s the synopsis: Bjorn, lead singer in Abbatoir, and his band mates Benny, Anni-Frid, and Agnetha spend their weekends covering Abba classics at a variety of increasingly depressing venues, from old folks’ homes to empty pub back rooms. Up next from director Elza Kephart (Slaxx) is the horror movie Bjorn of the Dead, and Deadline reports today that Iron Maiden legend Bruce Dickinson is on board to star.
To make this story even more intriguing, the upcoming horror movie isn’t about Iron Maiden at all. No, it’s about Abba. Specifically, an Abba tribute band?!
Deadline explains that the film “centers around an Abba tribute band who find themselves, along with other tribute acts, trapped in a nightclub at the start of the apocalypse. Bjorn and his band must work together to save themselves, humanity, and the future of music.”
Deadline also notes, “In addition to Bruce Dickinson, the film will have various cameos from the world of rock and heavy metal.” It’s said to be a “blood-drenched gore fest.”

Last year, writer/director Joachim Hedén brought us the survival thriller Breaking Surface (watch it Here), about a woman struggling to save her sister, who was trapped underwater by a rockslide in the icy waters of Norway. Now Hedén is in production on another thriller about diving – but this time around, the threat to the divers are sharks. Filming in Belgium, the shark thriller may or may not end up being called The Last Breath. The Wreck has also come up as a potential title. But whatever the title happens to be, the first image from the film has been unveiled online and you can check it out at the bottom of this article.

Not particularly jazzed up about this week's releases, especially after reading what the critics have said about Year One? Maybe it's time to check out what's on DVD or OnDemand instead.
One thing you might not have heard about is the SciFi original movie Hydra, now out on DVD. When a former marine is brought to an island to be hunted by sport, it turns out the island offers more than meets the eye. Not to spoil things for the particularly dense, but it's at this point where the movie's title rears its ugly head – literally.
With special effects hearkening back to B movie classics, if you're looking for a monster movie with some good, campy fun this is something you should check out.

The Sci Fi Channel has slated Toby Wilkins’ Splinter (pictured) for a broadcast premiere on Saturday, February 14 at 9 p.m. There will be a repeat showing the following night at 7 p.m.
The superior indie monster flick (see our review here) was briefly released theatrically last fall under the Magnet banner by Magnolia Pictures, which initially announced a DVDebut for this month; it’ll now hit disc later this spring. Splinter is just one of several creature features hitting Sci Fi in the next couple of months; also on tap is Anaconda 4: Trail Of Blood, showing on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 9 p.m. and 1 a.m. The fourth in the killer-snake franchise was shot back to back with last year’s Anacondas III, with director Don E. FauntLeroy and stars Crystal Allen and John Rhys-Davies returning (but not, sadly, David Hasselhoff). Another sequel (sort of), Planet Raptor a.k.a.
