Dexter: Resurrection is making plans for its debut, which includes updates about filming, release window, and some big casting. Here’s what we know so far!
Per TV Line, Dexter: Resurrection will begin filming this month in January 2025, and is expected to premiere this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime. That’s definitely a fast turnaround. But you won't hear us complaining!
The prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, is currently releasing new episodes and the season comes to a close in February. So it'll only be a few months after that until we get more of the crime drama world, this time back to Michael C. Hall who originated the role. Both in the prequel and Resurrection, there's some familiar faces reprising their roles. So who exactly?

[This story contains spoilers from the first five episodes of Dexter: Original Sin.]
Three years after concluding with Dexter: New Blood, Showtime’s favorite serial killer is back in action with Dexter: Original Sin. The prequel series stars Patrick Gibson as a younger version of Dexter, with Michael C. Hall providing narration (and a surprising on-camera return as well). Set during Dexter’s earliest days working alongside Miami Metro, Original Sin comes packed with returning characters, tropes and Easter eggs aplenty for fans of the original show.
“We had this canon of lore from nine seasons of the show from which to draw,” Dexter franchise veteran and Original Sin showrunner Clyde Phillips told The Hollywood Reporter about the prequel series, which is now five episodes into its 10-episode season. “If people like Easter eggs, this show is going to be an Easter egg hunt. We would write the shows and start shooting them. Someone would come in and say,...

In a spinoff-laden 2024 that even gave Scar from “The Lion King” a sneaky origin story, it’s no wonder that Showtime’s foremost serial killer is back for “Dexter: Original Sin.”
The new prequel series is streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime and — spoiler alert — begins by foreshadowing Michael C. Hall’s return as the clever antihero for the upcoming “Dexter: Resurrection” sequel series. That reveal puts even more pressure on “Original Sin” star Patrick Gibson to nail his rendition of the blood-thirsty title character at 20.
“When I saw this script, my initial thought was, ‘Dang, that’s going to be tough for the guy who has to play Dexter because that’s such a performance to follow,’” actress Molly Brown told IndieWire. “But Michael just wasn’t finished with the character, and the audience isn’t finished either. [This story contains spoilers from Dexter and Dexter: New Blood.]
When Dexter: Original Sin viewers see the fedora and hear the giggle, they know who’s coming.
For eight seasons on the original Dexter, the audience of Showtime’s hit serial killer series became familiar with the main players on the Miami Metro Homicide team where Michael C. Hall’s starring Dexter Morgan worked. Two of those characters were Detective Angel Batista, played by David Zayas, and forensics expert Vince Masuka, played by C.S. Lee.
Prequel series Dexter: Original Sin, which arrived on Paramount+ last week, heads back to the 1990s to show how Dexter (played here by Patrick Gibson) became the blood splatter analyst by day and serial killer by night who viewers were introduced to in the 2006 series. James Martinez and Alex Shimizu take on the Batista and Masuka roles in the prequel, bringing back their signature fedora and giggle, respectively.

Jennifer Carpenter should be proud. Her character that audiences fell in love with over Dexter’s nine-season run is in good f–king hands.
In the second episode of Dexter: Original Sin, the foul-mouthed Debra Morgan (Molly Brown) is as angsty as ever, but with good reason. While Dexter starts his fancy new internship, Deb is feeling on the outs of her familial trio, expressing her feelings in the only way she knows how: with curse words. She tells a friend: “My dad and my brother are so far up each other’s asses, they don’t even know I exist!

Dexter is all set to make a grand comeback ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Showtime’s Dexter has once again returned, this time with the flashback story, Dexter: Original Sin, to shed light on the formative years of the iconic serial killer, Dexter Morgan aka Bay Harbor Butcher. Based on Jeff Lindsay’s best-selling novels, Dexter was earlier revived in 2021 with the sequel miniseries, Dexter: New Blood. The series allowed fans to follow the Miami-based forensic expert by day and serial killer by night in his exile after the original show ended on an infamous note. However, the New Blood finale left fans just as unsatisfied, prompting writer-producer Clyde Phillips to continue Dexter’s story with a second direct sequel, Dexter: Resurrection.
As expected, the announcement and rapid development of Dexter: Ressurection have sent the TV industry into a frenzy, wondering how the makers could weave two very distinct spin-offs to complement one another.

Now, Hall is an executive producer on Original Sin, where he continues to voice Dexter’s inner monologue throughout the 10-episode season. Trust us: Nothing good will come from skipping Netflix’s newest dark comedy series “No Good Deed.” Created by Liz Feldman of the Emmy-nominated “Dead to Me,” the eight-episode series shares connective tissue with the earlier comedy, as both are set in affluent areas of Los Angeles and revolve around characters who are being less than truthful with one another. Emmy winners Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano anchor the series as Lydia and Paul, a grieving couple attempting to sell their longtime home in the desirable Los Feliz neighborhood in the wake of their son’s death. While multiple interested parties believe the gorgeous Spanish-style villa on a bright corner lot will fix all their problems, there is a darkness that lingers within its walls, and Lydia and Paul must hide the truth about what happened inside the house long enough to sell it. With a stellar ensemble that also includes Linda Cardellini,...

“Dexter: Original Sin” brings fans back to the serial killer they all know and (perhaps worth examining) love, but he’s wearing a different face this time around.
No, not literally. Dexter Morgan isn’t that kind of psychopath. He just has urges to kill people, and in the prequel series now streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime (premiering on-air on Showtime this Sunday), we see how he learns to deal with those urges, and implement the Code that his father creates for him to do it somewhat safely.
There are plenty of characters you’ll recognize in the series, but all new faces, so let’s run them down, shall we?
Paramount Dexter Morgan (Patrick Gibson)
Since “Dexter: Original Sin” centers on Dexter Morgan as a teen, Patrick Gibson plays the serial killer this time around. You’ll recognize him from Netflix’s “The Oa” or maybe “Shadow and Bone.

[This story contains major spoilers from the premiere of Dexter: Original Sin.]
The last time Dexter viewers saw Dexter Morgan, the starring serial killer played by Michael C. Hall was dead.
In the final episode of Showtime’s 2022 Dexter revival series, Dexter: New Blood, Dexter asked his grown-up son Harrison (played by Jack Alcott) to kill him in hopes of stopping the cycle and giving Harrison a better life. So, Harrison shoots him in the chest. “You did good,” were Dexter’s last words, as he bleeds in the snow in upstate New York. “Let me die so my son can live,” said Hall in voiceover to close out the series.
When talking after about why he killed off his antihero in the finale, called “Sins of the Father,” Dexter‘s former showrunner and New Blood creator Clyde Phillips, who departed the original series halfway through its eight-season run, explained why they owed it to the Dexter audience to kill him.

This week, as the Eras Tour wrapped its final leg after two years of shows across the globe, Taylor Swift fans have been taking to social media to reflect on their favorite moments of the monumental tour — and, often, to remind people that they went to the Eras Tour. Molly Brown, star of the forthcoming series Dexter: Original Sin, went to the show, too (Paris, nights two and three). She’s as yet refrained from seizing the opportunity to remind her followers about it, but the actress has what just might be the best Eras tour of them all.

“Yellowstone” is back.
Taylor Sheridan’s phenomenally popular series, the most-watched show currently airing on television, returns on Sunday, Nov. 10. The new batch of episodes (six in total) serve as the second half of the show’s fifth season, which began way back in November 2022. Since then, the show has endured a very public feud with its star Kevin Costner, two strikes that shutdown Hollywood and a considerable amount of handwringing about what direction the series will ultimately take.
And while it appears that the mainline series is coming to an end, although that “final season” bit has been left out of the marketing materials for the second half of season 5 (so far), there will still be plenty to come from Sheridan’s considerable “Yellowstone” universe. These plans include a whole suite of “Yellowstone” spinoffs, which are somewhat confusing and difficult to parse through. But that’s why we’re here.

The Woodstock ’99 music festival may have been an unmitigated disaster, but that town and that year brought us something far more lasting: The Woodstock Film Festival.
Fast-forward to 2024, and we’re celebrating the film fest’s 25th year. Among the slate’s highlights this fall is Paul Schrader’s latest film “Oh, Canada,” which will screen on Saturday, October 19. The screening will be followed by a conversation with Schrader, who will be further celebrated with the Honorary Maverick Award.
The 2024 festival will take place from October 15-20 at venues across the Hudson Valley towns of Woodstock, Rosendale, Kingston, and Saugerties. The centerpiece selection is Steve McQueen’s “Blitz,” with Jesse Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain” closing the festival.

Keenan Ivory Wayans' 2004 comedy "White Chicks" was an oddity when it was released, and it's just as much an oddity now. The plot revolves around a pair of Black, male FBI agents who have to, for contrived reasons, disguise themselves as young, wealthy white women, and the comedy stems entirely from racial and gender juxtapositions the men experience. While there may have been an opportunity to write a penetrating criticism of race and gender, the filmmakers took no opportunities to be even the slightest bit profound. That, at any rate, seemed to be the critical consensus on "White Chicks," which was widely lambasted and was even declared by many to be one of the worst films of its year.
And yet, and yet ... it keeps on drawing people in. As of this writing, "White Chicks" is the highest-rating comedy film on Netflix in the United States. Either the film has...

1923 follows a new generation of Duttons led by patriarch Jacob (Harrison Ford) and matriarch Cara (Helen Mirren). The series explores the early 20th century, when pandemics, historic drought and the end of Prohibition plague the Mountain West and the Duttons who call it home.

Patrick Gibson may be playing a younger version of Michael C. Hall in “Dexter: Original Sin,” but the actor doesn’t want his take on the serial killer to be just a “mirror impression” of his predecessor. So, while Gibson studied Hall closely, he also made sure to remember the timeline of things.
“Dexter: Original Sin” will take place in the ’90s, when Dexter Morgan is just a teenager and only just beginning to act on his murderous urges. With some guidance from his dad Harry (Christian Slater in this series), he develops his guiding code that fans came to know in the original series.
During the “Dexter: Original Sin” panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, it was revealed that not only would Hall be returning to star in a new spinoff — “Dexter: Resurrection” — but he’ll be lending his voice to narrate “Original Sin.” And, according to Gibson,...

Somehow, Dexter will be back.
Michael C. Hall will lead Showtime/Paramount+’s upcoming “Dexter” sequel series, “Dexter: Resurrection,” which is set to follow the events of the last sequel series, “Dexter: New Blood.” The big question is how will that be possible since the 2022 finale saw the serial killer bleeding out in the freezing cold.
At the time, showrunner Clyde Phillips confirmed that “Dexter is dead.” So, how is he back now that that’s been confirmed?
“Was it?” Hall coyly asked at the Variety studio, presented by Google TV, at San Diego Comic-Con. “I don’t know what I am authorized to say other than, it’s really cold out there.”
“Dexter” aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013, with “Dexter: New Blood,” a limited series, airing for one season from 2021 to 2022, picking up 10 years after the original finale.

It appears that Michael C. Hall isn’t done with the Dexter IP, but fans surely are. During the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con, Hall appeared at the Dexter: Original Sin panel and surprised fans with the announcement of a new sequel series. The newly announced Dexter: Resurrection is reportedly a sequel to New Blood, which was released in 2021 as a sequel to the original show.

New Blood didn’t do a great job in terms of saving the dumpster fire finale of the original series, but it did a few things right in terms of course correction. Moreover, the show ended with the death of Hall’s main character, which means Resurrection may go out of its way to bring back Dexter Morgan from the dead.

Dexter is probably one of the most entertaining and gripping serial killer shows out there. Michael C. Hall played the titular character leading a double life – a forensic technician by day and a vigilante serial killer by night. The crime drama went on for eight seasons before coming to an end. A few years later, Dexter returned for a miniseries, Dexter: New Blood.
Dexter (2006 – 2013) | Showtime Networks
While the show was so well-received by both critics and fans, there were some seasons where things didn’t look up for Dexter. The final season of the series has the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score and fans have been complaining about how the show ended, for a long time. As it turns out, even Michael C. Hall didn’t bother watching the final episode.
