Sidney Chiu is an independent film producer from Vancouver currently
based in Toronto. With a body of work that focuses on films with
international appeal, Sidney was most recently the Production Manager
on a Mandarin Romantic Comedy entitled Anchoring in Seattle starring
Tang Wei, Wu Xuibo and Elaine Jin for Edko Films (HK) with Director Xue
Xiaolu, and Producers Mathew Tang (HK) and Shan Tam (CA). Prior to
that, Sidney was the Producer for Three Days in Havana starring Gil
Bellows, Kathleen Robertson and Don McKellar directed by Tony Pantages
and Gil Bellows, the noir-thriller was shot in Havana Cuba and
Vancouver with E1 distributing and Joker Films as its international
sales agent. Sidney's first produced feature entitled A Night for Dying Tigers premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2010.
Written and directed by Terry Miles, this dysfunctional family drama
starred Jennifer Beals, Gil Bellows and Kathleen Robertson and is
distributed by Alliance Films in Canada and Joker Films internationally
with distribution in more than half a dozen countries.
Sidney has also been an Associate Producer for Anagram Pictures working on the on The Thaw starring Val Kilmer, Martha MacIsaac and Aaron Ashmore distributed by Maple Pictures and Voltage Pictures internationally. Prior to Anagram, Sidney was the Head of Development with Orca Productions Inc, working with award winning Director/Producer Nicholas Kendall. At Orca, Sidney attended several international markets and festivals including Cannes, Hong Kong Filmart, and the Mannheim Co-production Meetings developing international co-productions and co-ventures.
