Mumbai, April 11 (Ians) On the occasion of Eid on Thursday, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has announced his new film ‘Sikandar’ directed by A.R. Murugadoss.

The actor also announced the movie’s release date, confirming that it will hit theaters on Eid 2025.

Taking to Twitter, Salman shared a glimpse, which had “Salman Khan in and as Sikandar”. The film is presented by Sajid Nadiadwala.

This time around, she is the central protagonist in there and the only lead per se since the film revolves around her. Since the film is directed by A.R. Murugadoss [Ghajini, Holiday], one can well expect good entertainment quotient in there. The filmmaker has enjoyed a consistently good track record in South as well as North, and given the impression that the theatrical promo gave, it is pretty much on the cards that this Fox film would have good hard hitting content to boast of. The film also has Anurag Kashyap as the main villain.

What is impressive is the fact that despite a female centric subject, Akira has fetched a good satellite price. In fact for Sonakshi Sinha, it is a big deal indeed to be getting a similar response for television as some of the leading men in the industry.

Considering the fact that Akira is an A.R. Murugadoss film and the filmmaker has already given a couple of centuries already [Ghajini, Holiday], it would be interesting to see what he has to offer with his female centric Akira which is again an action entertainer.

Teena Singh – a known-face in the ad world with over 70 ads to her credit – is currently grabbing much attention in Bollywood too as the ‘college-bully’ in the upcoming Sonakshi Sinha-starrer ‘Akira’.

And while the actress did a cameo in ‘Fitoor’ early this year, it’s with the A.R. Murugadoss film that she’s set to make her debut with. “‘Fitoor’ was offered to me just at the start of my advertising career, so it was a great experience and Aditya (Roy Kapur) was amazing to work with,” she points out.

Talking about her Bollywood experience she adds, “I was like a kid in a candy shop and it’s the same every time I go on set!”

It is now reported that Sonakshi Sinha's Akira trailer will be attached to Salman Khan's much-awaited film Sultan which is releasing on July 6 this Eid. Sonakshi, who made her debut in Salman Khan's Dabangg, is excited for the trailer being attached to her first co-actor's film. Neil Nitin Mukesh is having a good run playing bad. He was recently pitted against Salman Khan in Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and last year demonstrated his villainous side in A.R. Murugadoss Tamil blockbuster, Kaththi, starring Vijay in the lead.

Before Neil Nitin Mukesh’s more recent antagonist adventures, filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra was awed by the striking black and white portions in Bejoy Nambiar’s 2013 outing, David. Neil Nitin Mukesh’s version was shot in a sepia tone that conveyed the hippy pop culture of the 1970’s with élan.

Impressed by Neil in those portions of the film, he was duly selected for Wazir. Vidhu Vinod Chopra says, “I saw the black and white portions of ‘David’ and found Neil perfect for the role of Wazir.”

The good news is that for the first time Shatrughan Sinha will be playing his own daughter's father onscreen. The film to bring them together is A.R. Murugadoss' Akira.

Now for the bad news - Though cast together, Shatruji and his darling daughter do not have even one shot together in the film.

Says a well-informed source, "When Murugadoss approached Shatruji, the actor was told he played the film's lifeline. Shatruji plays Sonakshi's father in Akira. But his character dies while Sonakshi's character is a still a child. So all of Shatruji's scenes are with the child actor playing Sonakshi's childhood avatar. Later in the film Shatruji's voice serves as a guiding force in Sonakshi's life. But they never come together face-to-face."

However, according to sources, Shatruji feels this won't go down well with the audience.

"Shatruji feels there should be at least one sequence featuring Sonakshi and him together.

‘Holiday’ has crossed the 100 crore mark, hence turning out to be another century grosser of the year after ‘Jai Ho’ and ’2 States’. By the look of things, the Akshay Kumar starrer is all set to be the highest collecting film for the year so far, what with a very good second week indicating positive trending for the A.R. Murugadoss affair.

Released early this year, ‘Jai Ho’ went on to nett 116 crore with the 100 crore mark being achieved in 10 days flat. Later ’2 States’ too managed around 105 crore though it took the film 24 days to hit the century. Now with ‘Holiday’ set for a 100 crore run in 15 days flat, it is all set to cross ’2 States’ in the third weekend itself and then expect a good run in days to come.

Sometimes it’s a curse when you watch various language films. Especially when the remake season churns out yet another one. You rely so heavily on the writers and the actors to give you something to enjoy and walk away with. Walking into Holiday was like that for this writer, but alas, she didn’t walk away with much. In fact, after watching A.R. Murugadoss take Ghajini from Tamil to Hindi, I was more scared. Scared to expect anything like Ghajini’s history. Well, history did not repeat itself and the magic of re-creation has failed.

The story is pretty simple. Military man Virat played by Akshay comes home for holidays but stumbles into a terrorist game plan. On the side we have Saiba played by Sonakshi Sinha for the funnies and some glamour. But it doesn’t take a long time for people to see where the connecting dots are.
