Morgan Freeman did not reach the heights in Hollywood by always playing Mr. Nice Guy. His ruthless decision to fire a famous rapper from one of his movies shows the actor’s commitment to his craft. In 2013, Freeman joined forces with Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, and Kevin Kline to star in the comedy film Last Vegas. The film was supposed to have rapper T.I. in a supporting role in the film.

However, during the table read of the movie, the rapper’s unprofessional behavior greatly disappointed the veteran actor. The Shawshank Redemption actor let him know the next day that he was out of the ensemble cast of the film.

Ok, let's be honest - did we really expect the MTV VMAs, of all award shows, to deliver the best hip-hop 50 tribute of the year? The "all-star finale performance" MTV touted ahead of the Sept. 12 event included Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, LL Cool J, Dmc (of Run-d.M.C.), Doug E. Fresh, and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five as performers. The 10-minute tribute intended to honor the culture's entire 50-year history, but with a lineup that shallow (and New York-skewed), is that even possible?
The VMAs aren't alone: it seems every award show's hip-hop 50 tribute has missed the mark this year. The Grammys kicked off the milestone celebration in February with an old school-meets-new-school performance, which featured everyone from Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, and De La Soul to Lil Baby, GloRilla, and Lil Uzi Vert. The BET Awards followed suit in June with a "non-stop party" of medley performances from folks like Warren G,...

Killer Mike has announced Michael Deluxe, a deluxe edition of the solo album he shared back in June. The new release will arrive next Friday, September 15th, and Mike is celebrating the announcement by sharing a bonus track called “Maynard Vignette” featuring T.I., Jid, and Jacquees.
Along with the original tracklist that comprises Michael, Michael Deluxe will feature four new bonus tracks: “Maynard Vignette” along with “Yes,” “Get Some Money,” and “Act Up.” A press release describes is as something like a “director’s cut,” expanding beyond the more concise version Mike had whittled down for the initial release. Additionally, fans can finally get their hands on the music in physical formats, with the long-awaited vinyl and CD versions of the album available to pre-order now.

Dave Chappelle wrapped his four-show stint in New York City to celebrate his 50th birthday with famous friends, including John Mayer, Busta Rhymes, Common, T.I. and Pete Davidson, who said he just finished rehab.
Davidson and fellow comedian Michael Che, both New Yorkers, took in the thrill of performing for a sold-out crowd at the famed Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. Both said they were proud of the moment and proud to celebrate Chappelle, whose birthday was Thursday.
Davidson won over the audience with his jokes, saying he arrived in NYC on Saturday after completing a stint in rehab. The Saturday Night Live star joked about his drug use, saying doing drugs as a 30-year-old — he hits the milestone in November — would no longer be cute.
Other comedians to hit the stage before Chappelle performed included Che, Ronnie Chung, Michelle Wolf and Jeff Ross. Mike Tyson sat in...

Returning to hip-hop’s birthplace, classic rappers who pioneered the sound — as well as those who have proudly carried the rap torch — joined forces to honor the genre’s 50th birthday and celebrate its historic and global impact on pop culture.
It was only fitting that a venue as iconic as Bronx’s Yankee Stadium became the home for the eight-hour celebration, which included three dozen performers and nearly 50,000 audience members.
The universal love for rap was at the center of the night, and rappers like Nas and Snoop Dogg owned the night while also honoring those who came before them.
During his set, Nas brought out hip-hop founding father DJ Kool Herc and told the crowd: “This is our love. This is our bloodline.” Herc, 68, earned a standing ovation and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. Kool G Rap also appeared onstage alongside Nas,...

It’s nearly two weeks until Chika’s debut album drops, and two stylists — one for her locs and one for her makeup — are hovering around her near the door of a New York City hotel room. Even as the women buzz around her, preparing her for the photoshoot accompanying this interview, she’s trying to keep an eye on me. She’s playful, animated, and occasionally firm as she talks to me via Zoom through a laptop angled at her chair. “Sorry, should I look up?” she asks the makeup artist.

Netflix has shared a trailer for its upcoming docuseries Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop, which will tell the history of the genre through a new lens, giving credit to the countless women who shaped it. Watch the trailer below.
The documentary will explain how Black women came to “dominate the charts” and become the “ultimate influences” of hip-hop culture, focusing both on pioneers of the genre as well as current-day superstars. Many influential rappers sit down for interviews, including Roxanne Shante, Mc Lyte, Queen Latifah, Rah Digga, Tierra Whack, Saweetie, and more. Notably, as commenters on YouTube have pointed out, the trailer makes no mention of Nicki Minaj, the best-selling female rapper of all time, but with four episodes, it’s still possible the series itself will correct this omission. The series is set to premiere on Netflix on August 9th.

The 2023 BET Awards honored the 50th anniversary of hip-hop with dozens of performances that played like a musical family reunion as pioneers of the genre blazed the stage during a hostless but party-filled show held during the writers strike.
The Sugarhill Gang, Big Daddy Kane, Mc Lyte, Doug E. Fresh, Erick Sermon and Keith Murray performed Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, celebrating rap music and honoring its roots as well as its domination in pop culture.
Ja Rule, Red Man, E-40, Master P, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Styles P, T.I., Fabolous, Trick Daddy, Trina, Uncle Luke and Skillz hit the stage, helping the four-hour-show flow during the writers strike, which several presenters acknowledged before giving out awards, including Grammy-winning singer Muni Long.
“Let’s take a moment to acknowledge and stand in solidarity with the artists who make us laugh, cry and, most important, think — our Writers Guild of America family.

Juneteenth, which falls on June 19, commemorates the fall of slavery in the United States.
It celebrates the anniversary of the order made by Major General Gordon Granger on June 1965 that proclaimed freedom for slaves in Texas. The order was actually made two years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
In a tweet Monday, former President Obama explained it as the “delayed but welcome news of freedom reaching the enslaved Black folks in Galveston, Texas.” In 2021, President Biden made Juneteenth a federal holiday.
Many networks are marking the occasion with Juneteenth TV specials or movie marathons showcasing Black talent and/or excellence. See our viewing guide below:

T.I. and Tiny have lost their copyright infringement lawsuit against the L.O.L. Surprise! doll maker Mga Entertainment, as a jury ruled in favor of the toymaker on Friday.
The rapper (real name Clifford Harris) and Tiny (Tameka Cottle) initially sued Mga Entertainment for allegedly stealing the name, likeness, and trade dress of Omg Girlz — the pop trio Tiny founded in 2009 — when the company launched its “L.O.L. Surprise Omg” dolls in 2019.
The case first went to trial in January, but a mistrial was declared after T.I.

Pap Chanel is ready to shock the world with her latest EP, "Paptivities." After a nearly two-year gap between 2021's "Pretty & Paid 2.0" and her new six-track project, released May 12, the rising rapper tells Popsugar why she took her time crafting "Paptivities" - and why the EP sounds vastly different from her previous releases. "On this project right here, every song sounds completely different," Chanel explains. "I have one song where I'm telling my fans all my business. I'm super excited for that one because people don't really get to hear transparency from artists. This is a record where I got really vulnerable and talked about the good, bad, and the ugly."
The record in question is the EP's opener, "Pap Stories," an introspective track where Chanel raps about everything from wearing "war wounds" to brushing off haters who doubted her. As promised, every other song on "Paptivities" adopts a different...

The parameters of the case haven’t changed: T.I. Pandemic-themed horror movies have started coming out three years after Covid-19 made the earth stand still as millions died from a horrible virus. Now, Deon Taylor’s horror film Fear uses the panic in people’s minds during 2020 as the backdrop for his film, where a group of friends arrives at a lodge only to realize there’s something severely wrong here. Starring an ensemble cast including Joseph Sikora, King Back, T.I., Annie Ilonzeh, and Terrence J., among others, the movie tries to exploit people’s worst fears against them. To be honest, though, the movie is bad. It’s choppy, replete with poor editing and bad direction, and the story goes every which way, making for a bad and unsatisfactory watch. By the end of the 100-odd minutes, you’ll be wishing you didn’t sit down for this.

Nelly Headlining ‘Hot In Herre’ Festival In Toronto, Featuring Akon, Ja Rule & More 2000s Throwbacks
Nelly has announced his first-ever “Hot In Herre” music festival, full of nostalgic throwbacks.
Nelly loaded the festival with a list of classic and timeless artists from the 2000s, including Ne-Yo, Akon, T.I., Fat Joe, Rick Ross, Ja Rule, Chingy and Keri Hilson. Seeing as Nelly was Billboard’s third biggest artist of the 2000-2010 decade, it makes sense why the rap icon would highlight the decade.
The festival will take place in Toronto at Downsview Park on June 24, 2023. In a recent press release, he explained why he chose the 6ix for the festival’s location and how much it means to him to perform in the city.

Nick Cannon set social media ablaze earlier this week when he revealed a big announcement was coming, ultimately quashing suspicions he was announcing he’d fathered his 13th child by revealing he’ll be hosting a new Kevin Hart-hosted game show called “Who’s Having My Baby?”, in which female contestants compete to see which of them will be lucky enough to be the next woman for Cannon to impregnate.
“Expect some big news tomorrow … ,” he wrote on Monday in an Instagram Story post.

That was followed by his “Who’s Having My Baby?” reveal.
“You’re going to get some contestants that want to have your baby,” Hart explained in a short promo clip for the E! game show that was shared by Cannon on Instagram on Tuesday.

Nick Cannon really had us there for a second. On March 7, the father of 12 announced plans to star in "the mother of all game shows," a shocking new series titled "Who's Having My Baby?" Hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, the show's premise was pitting single women against one another to choose the mother of Cannon's next child. In the accompanying promo video, Hart excitedly tells Cannon, "You're gonna get some contestants that wanna have your baby!" as several ladies walk on stage in front of a studio audience. The teaser claimed the series would release this spring on E!

If you’ve watched Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, you might notice that the cast of the film is somewhat different from that of the first two Ant-Man movies. The main quartet of characters—Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Hope van Dyne/Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer)—remains the same, and Scott’s daughter Cassie is also back, now played by Kathryn Newton.
Quantumania also introduces a slew of new characters, such as big bad Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) and the inhabitants of the Quantum Realm. But missing this time are the members of Scott Lang’s X-Con Security crew of thieves-turned-security-experts, including Kurt (David Dastmalchian), Dave (Tip “T.I.” Harris) and, most significantly, Luis (Michael Peña).
Dastmalchian actually has another role in Quantumania, as the voice of the gooey red creature Veb, while Harris has been embroiled in allegations...

"Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania" is finally in theaters, and David Dastmalchian is back. Well, sort of. In the first two "Ant-Man" films, Dastmalchian played Kurt Goreshter, the cybercriminal who worked with Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Luis (Michael Peña), and Dave (T.I.) in the company X-Con Security Consultants. After Scott is released from prison, the guys get him back into the heist world by getting his help to rob Hank Pym's (Michael Douglas) safe. Scott finds the Ant-Man suit there, and it begins his path to being an Avenger. While Dastmalchian is back in the third "Ant-Man" film, he plays a different character — he voices a red blobby creature called Veb, who has a thing for the holes in the human body.

Invited guests, Instagram influencers, and junketeers were given the all-clear to give “social sentiment” (and actual phrase used by movie studios) concerning their first look at “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” Peyton Reed’s third film in the zippy, Paul Rudd-led Marvel franchise. The latest entry is set predominantly in the CG swirl of the “quantum realm,” so it’s likely there won’t be as many big-then-small-then-big chase scenes through San Francisco in this one.
The early reports were positive, particularly focusing on Jonathan Majors as the villain, Kang.
“I now understand why it’s called #Quantumania” read one early response.

This was a comeback year in every sense for the Golden Globes Awards. It’s the show’s first year after an enforced break, and it’s been ages since the Globes were just that other awards show that was less legit but more fun — and not the tainted product of a scandal-magnet Hollywood Foreign Press Association that included its absence of diversity, the mishandling of Brendan Fraser’s groping allegation, and much more. The matter of who its members would select to receive Golden Globes almost seemed like an afterthought.
However, minutes after dinner was served inside the Beverly Hills Hilton’s International Ballroom, the show seemed to fall back into its old habits: Attendees who weren’t cleared for the red carpet stared in envy at those who were, a privilege marked by the tiny, chic Moët bottle with a rose-colored spout that they received at the end of the spectacle.

"It's playing backwards…" What does it mean when a record plays backwards, oh no?! Hidden Empire has revealed a second official trailer for Fear, releasing in theaters in just a few more weeks. This one looks like it's worth skipping. A new film made by director Deon Taylor, best known for his films The Intruder, Fatale, and Black and Blue. A year into living through a worldwide pandemic, a small group of friends gather in the remote Tahoe Mountains to stay at the "Historic Strawberry Lodge". But celebration turns to terror as one by one each guest faces their own worst fear. The horror movie stars Joseph Sikora, T.I., King Bach, Terrence J, Ruby Modine, Annie Ilonzeh, Iddo Goldberg, and Jessica Allain. This looks instantly forgettable and annoyingly derivative. They even had to stuff the trailer with a bunch of boring "evil" quotes. ›››

"Real Housewives of Atlanta" alum Porsha Williams said "I do" to Nigerian-born businessman Simon Guobadia in not one but two ceremonies over the weekend. On Friday, the couple were married in a traditional Nigerian native law and custom ceremony in front of 250 guests at the Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta, according to People.
