Jo Hughes began her career in film in 2005 and has since established herself as a talented player within the Visual Effects industry. After completion of a First-Class Honours degree in Media Arts at the University of London, Hughes entered the industry in the stop-motion animation world of Tim Burton's Corpse Bride. After a year in feature films, she built expertise in short films and commercials across production and editorial departments.
Hughes' first visual effects role was VFX Production Manager on Disney's Tron: Legacy. Her organizational skills, diplomacy, and leadership were quickly recognized and the following year she was promoted to VFX Producer. Her talent earned her three Canadian Screen Awards for Achievement in Visual Effects, for Resident Evil: Retribution, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and Pompeii.
Her keen interest in understanding the latest technology, as well as her great attention to creative and technical details, has allowed her to stand out in her field. With over 20,000 hours in theatre review as a VFX Producer, she began to collaborate in the shot and sequence crafting process with award-winning VFX Supervisors and Directors.
That collaborative spirit and passion for the visual arts allowed Hughes to flourish as a VFX Supervisor. She is calm and confident in high-pressure situations, able to generate solutions to unplanned situations and unforeseen problems, and her strong communication skills allow her to clearly understand and execute a director's vision alongside her team.
As a VFX Supervisor, Hughes' recent credits include Constantin Film's Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City, Sex/Life for Netflix. She is a proud member of the Visual Effects Society and a mentor for Women in Film and Television. As of November 2022, she serves as VFX Producer on the series The Changeling for Apple TV.
