“Acapulco” will be returning for a fourth season at Apple TV+.
The comedy series, which hails from Lionsgate Television, has been renewed for Season 4, the streamer announced Tuesday. The series stars Eugenio Derbez, who also executive produces the show, as Maximo, who recalls his rise to success via a younger version of himself (Enrique Arrizón), who climbs the ranks at Las Colinas Resort.
The news comes just over a month after “Acapulco” debuted its Season 3 finale, which series cocreator Austin Winsberg told TheWrap was crafted carefully in case the show didn’t receive another season order.
“We were also careful to have a thin needle to thread in case we don’t get to Season 4,” Winsberg told TheWrap. “We wanted it to be close-ended enough that it feels like there’s some satisfaction to the story and some answers, while also leaving a lot of doors open for more stories to come.

It’s been a minute since we checked in on Máximo, old and young, and Las Colinas. Actually, it’s been like 16 months in the real world, which is why it was a wise choice for the “Acapulco” Season 3 trailer to open with the exposition it did.
Máximo (Eugenio Derbez): “Hugo, do you remember where my rags-to-riches life story left off? It all started with a job as Las Colinas. I told you about my big promotion and Julia and I getting together — but there’s still so much more I haven’t told you.”
Smash Cut To: Season 2’s big cliffhanger moment. Oh that’s right, (old) Máximo has a grownup daughter we didn’t even know about. The trailer doesn’t really get into that storyline, but certainly the season will.

Exclusive: Fox is developing a comedy called Remix from Sam Laybourne (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) and Mnelik Belilgne (Killing It).
The script from Fox Entertainment Studios follows a progressive, podcast-loving millennial who tries to modernize his father’s old school funk recording studio in an effort to save the family business and bond with his outdated, opinionated music producer dad. The only problem with this hopeful, optimistic vision is that Dad thinks it sounds like touchy-feely garbage.
Laybourne was most recently the executive producer of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist for NBC as well as Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas for Roku. Last season he shot and executive produced his pilot Hug Machine at CBS with Party Over Here producing and Jorma Taccone directing. He is currently developing the pilot Country Eastern with Vir Das for Fox with Party Over Here producing.
Laybourne is represented by UTA, Kaplan/Perrone and Myman Greenspan.

“Call Me Kat” actress Schuyler Helford’s teen-parenting comedy “Unplanned in Akron” has received a pilot order at CBS.
Written by Helford with Emily Wilson (“The Conners”) supervising, the multi-cam project follows two teenagers navigating parenthood in the best way they know how. Helford is co-executive producing the potential series. Wilson is an executive producer along with Samie Falvey and Erik Feig for PictureStart, and Chris Mills and Chris Emerson for Authentic.
“Unplanned in Akron” hails from CBS Studios.

The multi-camera comedy, which comes from CBS Studios, was originally set up at Fox in 2014 with Long in the title role and Nick Frost as the co-lead. “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” after getting axed by NBC, may be getting a second life at Roku.
Roku, which has been bulking up its original programming slate, is in discussions with Lionsgate Television, the producer of the musical dramedy, for a movie special bringing back the original cast including star Jane Levy, Variety confirmed.
Roku and Lionsgate reps declined to comment.
Sources cautioned that while Roku and Lionsgate are in talks, there’s no deal signed. The project under discussion would be a two-hour movie special that would hit the Roku Channel around the 2021 holidays. While other reports have said Roku would have the option to pick up “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” for a new season, a source familiar with the talks said that’s not on the table and that the movie deal would be a one-off.

“Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” is nearing a comeback, though it may be a brief one.
The musical comedy, which was canceled earlier this year by NBC after two seasons, is closing in on a deal with Roku for a two-hour movie that would wrap up the show, an individual with knowledge of the talks told TheWrap. The project is being eyed for the holidays.
According to TV Line, which broke the news, if the movie performs well, a potential third season could be in the cards. It is not yet a done deal but is in advanced negotiations. The entire main cast is expected to return, though not all deals are done.
Reps for Roku and Lionsgate, which produces the show with Universal Television, declined to comment. Peacock decided against ordering a third season after it was canceled in May.

The options on the cast of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, headlined by Jane Levy, expired earlier this week, and they have not been extended, I have learned.
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist lead studio Lionsgate Television has been looking to find a new home for the show since NBC canceled the series three weeks ago after two seasons and a potential move to NBCUniversal streamer Peacock did not materialize.
I hear conversations are still ongoing, with various options to continue the story of Zoey Clarke explored — series, miniseries or a movie. While none is believed to be close to reality, if any progresses, Lionsgate would need to make new deals with some or all of the Season 2 regular cast, which included Levy, Skylar Astin, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, Andrew Leeds, Alice Lee, Michael Thomas Grant, Kapil Talwalkar and Mary Steenburgen.

The show, a co-production between Lionsgate Television and Universal Television, will be shopped to other outlets. However, according to an individual familiar with the situation, NBC’s sister streaming service Peacock has already passed on a third season.
The news comes after the Austin Winsberg-created musical dramedy wrapped its second season back in May.

The cast of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist might have performed their last number. NBC has opted not to give a third-season renewal to the musical dramedy with a passionate following, which topped USA Today’s annual Save Our Shows poll for a second consecutive year.
The decision comes three and a half weeks after the series, headlined by Jane Levy, aired its Season 2 finale. As Deadline reported last month, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, a middling linear Live+Same Day ratings performer with an outsized digital footprint, had been in consideration for a pickup by NBC sibling streamer Peacock. NBC has ordered a second season of musical dramedy Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist starring Jane Levy. We hear the order is for 13 episodes.
A co-production between Lionsgate TV and Universal TV, the series had been considered the strongest contender among NBC’s bubble shows this season. It has a passionate following and recently topped USA Today’s annual Save Our Shows poll with record support.
Of the other NBC bubble series, the network this week canceled Lincoln Rhyme: The Hunt for the Bone Collector and Perfect Harmony. Manifest is still very much in contention as NBC and producer Warner Bros. TV are discussing a deal, while Indebted is not expected to continue.
Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist has been a digital phenom with huge online/social media following whose very modest Live+Same Day linear ratings are dwarfed by its delayed multi-platform numbers. It is one of NBC’s strongest digital performers,...

The Big Bang Theory, Season 7, Episode 1, “The Hofstadter Insufficiency”
Directed by Mark Cendrowski
Written by Chuck Lorre, Steven Molarao, and Tara Hernandez (Story), and Eric Kaplan, Jim Reynolds, and Steve Holland (Teleplay)
Airs Thursdays at 8pm Est on CBS
After a fairly unimaginative season finale, the premiere for season seven explores how the characters have adapted without Leonard once again. Despite the slight decline in comedy throughout season six, last season wrapped up well enough. The only problem was the repetition of a familiar storyline: Leonard going away. This time round a number of things have changed for the characters, making for a highly anticipated season seven premiere. Unfortunately the two parter is a little disappointing. The first episode is the better of the two, as we see what the characters have been up to since Leonard’s departure. With Leonard out of the mix a number of characters have...
