The Marvel Cinematic Universe is no longer one of Hollywood's biggest franchises - it is it's biggest franchise of all time, grossing over $31 billion and counting at the box office. Those numbers would have been unheard of decades ago, especially when there are other well-established franchises that got a head start on the Marvel Studios fare, but the heroes of the MCU persisted, bringing audiences in over the course of many movies - all of which have played a crucial part in building the vivid world they inhabit.
Iron Man kickstarted things back in 2008, with Robert Downey Jr.'s wit and charisma placing Tony Stark at the center of our hearts. But little did we know then that the film would also place him at the center of an entire universe, as the likes of Captain America, Black Widow, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man,...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of star-power. It's true; all the big stars find their way there eventually. Look no further than the recent Captain America: Brave New World, which has brought Harrison Ford into the MCU franchise and will reportedly bring Liv Tyler back after nearly two decades. Marvel knows the stars.
The Multiverse Saga has seen the additions of some more big names, including Olivia Colman, Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, Debra Jo Rupp, Emma Caulfield, Angelina Jolie, Barry Keoghan, Salma Hayek, Kit Harington, Richard Madden, and so many more. And with Robert Downey Jr. set to return to the franchise in a brand new role, the star-power is clearly still alive and well in the MCU.
That being said, rumor has it that Marvel Studios is particularly interested in adding two more major stars to the franchise - both of whom have made it big on Netflix in recent years.

‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Premiere: What To Remember Ahead Of The First Marvel Film Of 2025

Captain America: Brave New Soldier follows in the footsteps of three installments for Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers and four Avengers films when Rogers recruited Thor, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, The Incredible Hulk and more to combat threats to the world and universe.
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), Steve Rogers passed on the torch — in this case his shield with a star in the center and patriotic stripes around the frame — to his righthand man The Falcon, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). Wilson, in turn, recruited a new Falcon — Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez). For those wondering what to watch ahead of the release of the latest MCU film, most of the necessary context and what to remember can be found in three main Marvel projects — The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), Eternals (2021) and The Incredible Hulk (2018).

Exclusive: The UK government is considering enshrining into law a requirement for UK broadcasters to regularly fund anti-bullying reporting body Ciisa, which is yet to launch properly several years after it was first floated.
UK Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy is understood to view Ciisa, which stands for the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority, as crucial to helping rid the TV and film industries of the bullying and harassment issues that have plagued the sector for decades. The concept of an anonymous whistleblowing service that freelancers could go to without fear of repercussion has been hailed by all and sundry but securing long-term funding commitments in the millions of pounds has proved a tough ask.
Nandy has spoken publicly of her desire to get Ciisa up and running and said several weeks back that she takes a “dim view” of big TV industry players who are not financially backing Ciisa, as...

Prime Video is entering another fantasy realm.
The Amazon-owned streamer has greenlit a series based on Julie C. Dao’s Rise of the Empress novels. The drama — which counts Viola Davis, Forest Whitaker and Gemma Chan among its executive producers — is set in a “fantastical ancient Asian empire,” per the show’s logline, and centers on a peasant girl named Xifeng who, backed by a vengeful sorceress, vies to win the heart of the heir to the throne.
Crystal Liu (American Horror Story) and James Wong (The X-Files, AHS) will serve as co-showrunners on the series, which comes from Amazon MGM Studios, Davis and Julius Tennon’s JuVee Productions, and Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi’s Significant Productions.
“This story, led by an incredible female heroine, is an inspiring tale of strength and resilience,” said Nick Pepper, head of wholly owned U.S. SVOD TV development and series at Amazon MGM Studios.

What seemed like an unlikely casting dream for one MCU actor was actually way more possible than it seemed. Marvel has had plenty of recastings over the past 17 years without much need for explanation, as sometimes things happened behind the scenes that made it necessary. The studio has also cast actors to play multiple MCU roles, and the roles have usually been distinct enough that there isn’t any confusion. Such as Gemma Chan playing Minn-Erva and Sersi and Linda Cardellini playing Laura Barton and Lylla the Otter, there are VFX and makeup in place that disguise them.
When an MCU character dies, the actor’s time in the MCU is usually ended, unless they are recast in a different role. Sometimes an actor’s dream casting feels tangible, while other times it feels merely like a wish. Ben Mendelsohn first debuted as the Skrull Talos in 2019’s Captain Marvel,...

Astrid may be a supporting character in Crazy Rich Asians, but she has main character energy in the movie, and she deserves a spinoff Asap. One of the best romantic comedies in recent years, Crazy Rich Asians is a hilarious and bubbly movie that never slows down but still leaves ample room for a touching and deeply thought-out story about class, trust, and what it means to be "good enough" for someone. The film premiered in August 2018 and was an instant hit, earning $239 million at the box office (via BoxOfficeMojo) and a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Gareth Edwards' underrated sci-fi film finds streaming success two years after its release. The British filmmaker made his feature directorial debut and first rose to prominence with his 2010 sci-fi horror film, Monsters, an independent production made on a small budget of $500,000, with Edwards also serving as the cinematographer, production designer, and a visual effects artist. From there, he graduated on to directing the big-budget monster movie, 2014's Godzilla, which served as the first film in Legendary's Monsterverse franchise.
Next, Edwards took on one of the most highly coveted jobs in Hollywood, directing a Star Wars movie. He helmed Rogue One, which experienced a troubled production, and it was co-writer Tony Gilroy who oversaw the film's extensive reshoots. After that, Edwards didn't direct a film for seven years until his own original sci-fi epic, The Creator, in 2023. Unicef Goodwill Ambassador Ishmael Beah travelled to Sudan this week to meet with children and families affected by the conflict that has devastated the country for the past 19 months.
During his visit, Beah – a bestselling author and human rights activist who was forcibly recruited into an armed group during the brutal civil war in his home country of Sierra Leone at 13 – spent time with children who have been displaced and detained, as well as a family who have taken in a child abandoned during the conflict.
Beah met and interacted with children and adolescents in camps for people who have been displaced by the conflict. He visited Unicef-supported child-friendly spaces where vulnerable children have chance to learn, play and interact with their friends, receive psychosocial support and begin to regain some sense of normalcy. The children Beah met with spoke about how they can relate to his journey and...

Gareth Edwards’ latest movie, The Creator (2023), has been a big hit with audiences. Starring John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, Allison Janney, and Madeleine Yuna Voyles (in her first-ever acting role), the film has a cool story and stunning visuals. While it’s inspired by classics like Apocalypse Now (1979), Blade Runner (1982), and Akira (1988), Edwards still brings something fresh to the table—especially compared to Hollywood’s recent sci-fi flicks. With its top-notch sci-fi vibes and detailed world-building, the movie feels like a breath of fresh air for fans of the genre. However, the narrative falters due to unfortunate editing choices and a lack of depth in character development. Despite these shortcomings, the film remains a worthwhile watch, especially for those tired of the repetitive themes of alien invasions or AI replacing humans. Mind you, Edwards’ creation at least tried to break free from these tired tropes. I...

Lisa Nandy is not mincing her words over the Gregg Wallace allegations and the TV industry’s response.
The new UK Culture Secretary said she is “clear that people need to be heard, action has to be taken and perpetrators have to be stopped” as she stressed her lack of tolerance for bad behavior and a culture of complaints being “swept under the rug.”
She said she takes a “dim view” of big TV industry players who are not financially backing Ciisa, the yet-to-launch film and TV bullying reporting body.
“Ciisa think it is better if the industry grips this but if they don’t I will be prepared to take further action,” Nandy told the Culture, Media & Sport Committee (Cmsc) this afternoon.
The Culture Sec has been speaking with the BBC since the TV world was rocked by the Wallace allegations, which came from more than a dozen women of inappropriate behavior and remarks,...

Eternals may be a bit ignored among MCU movies but it does have some big implications for the films!
Caution: This article contains Spoilers for Eternals
Released in 2021, Eternals was a different spin on the usual MCU formula. In 5000 BC, the Celestials, insanely powerful cosmic beings, choose ten superhuman protectors to protect humanity from the Deviants, monstrous creatures.
Over the millennia, these Eternals have drifted apart and integrated with humans. When Ajax is killed seemingly by Deviants, they reunite to find out what happened. This leads to various turns before Sersi (Gemma Chan) discovers the shocking truth of the Eternals’ origins and mission.
The Eternals’ true purpose
Sersi is stunned to realize that everything the Eternals knew about themselves is false. They weren’t just “born” before coming to Earth but had been sent to other planets before, with their memories wiped afterward. The Celestials plant a seed into the...

With Wicked conquering the Earth, the million-dollar question for filmmaker Jon M. Chu as he reaps the biggest box office opening of his career ($164.2M) is where, oh, where is the Crazy Rich Asians sequel?
The Warner Bros. movie broke glass ceilings not only on-screen for Asian and Asian American actors, but also at the box office with a $35.2M domestic opening, a $174.9M U.S./Canada take and close to $240M WW. A sequel was promptly announced by the studio following its opening in late summer 2018. The original trilogy of books are by Kevin Kwan with book 2 titled China Rich Girlfriend and the third, Rich People Problems. The movie blasted off the careers of Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Awkwafina, and Gemma Chan to name a few.
The last we reported, the Crazy Rich Asians sequel remained in development with a draft by Amy Wang. Word was that the sequel...

Actor Frank Grillo is among a select few who have acted in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and James Gunn's upcoming DC Universe. He played Brock Rumlow/Crossbones in the MCU and will play Rick Flag, Sr. in the Dcu. As such, he has unique insight into what both franchises are like.
In an interview with Cinema Blend, the actor said that Marvel has "been in trouble a little bit because they got, I think, way over their skis, so to speak." He then elaborated that the manner in which James Gunn and Peter Safran are crafting the Dcu "creates a cohesiveness and an understanding of the character" through using the same actors across animated and live-action projects.
Grillo continued: "more importantly, [Gunn] understands how to utilize them in each story. And so there's not an egregious number of people who youre like, Why is he (here)? What's this?...

In the week leading up to the most divisive, high-stakes and exhausting presidential election in modern American history, Ronny Chieng spent three nights manning the Daily Show anchor desk. As a politics buff and a longtime correspondent of the Comedy Central institution, he’s more than game to guest host. But he’s also aware of how much the work had changed since Trevor Noah tapped him for the gig back in 2015. “I’ve been there long enough where I get the rhythm of it,” says the Malaysian stand-up and actor. “But it’s become a bit like the emergency room, watching car-wreck victims come in every day. You just get desensitized.”
Fortunately for the 38-year-old, it’s not all comedy triage. The show keeps him on a long leash, allowing frequent breaks to tour (his latest stand-up special, Love to Hate It, hits Netflix on Dec. 17) and tackle a...

While speaking to CinePop during D23 Brazil yesterday, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige shared an update on the status of an Eternals follow-up and spoke about the possibility of characters from the Inhumans making their MCU debut.
Eternals not only had the dubious honor of being the first Marvel Studios movie to drop to "rotten" status on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, but also finishing up its U.S. run with a disappointing $164.9 million to give it the lowest domestic haul of any McU-set film aside from 2008's The Incredible Hulk ($134M).
Even so, we appeared to get confirmation that a follow-up was in the early planning stages... when Game of Thrones alum Kit Harington (who made his MCU debut as Dane Whitman in the movie) suggested that the project had been scrapped!
Not exactly a surprise, but does that mean we won't be seeing Sersi, Thena, Kingo and the others...

Thanos was trying to save the universe? (Photo Credit – Koimoi)
Eternals flipped the script on our perception of the Mad Titan Thanos. Was he trying to save the universe with his infamous snap in Infinity War, or was he just another cosmic villain throwing a tantrum? The plot thickens with the introduction of “The Emergence,” which means the birth of the Celestial Tiamut. Did Thanos see himself as a reluctant hero fighting against cosmic doom? Cue the dramatic music!
In the Infinity Saga, Thanos strutted around like the ultimate villain, hunting down Infinity Stones and the Gauntlet like a kid in a candy store. His warped sense of balance led him to believe that wiping out half the universe’s population was the key to preventing chaos. This warped philosophy stemmed from witnessing Titan collapse under the weight of overpopulation. But here’s the kicker: what if his twisted plan...

Scarlett Johansson has played Black Widow in a wide variety of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies over the years, and because of the size of her roles in certain films or the story Natasha Romanoff had in them, some Black Widow appearances in the MCU rank higher than others. After being part of some of the McU's best movies and leading a solo film, Johansson has revealed that she is unlikely to play Black Widow again.
While a Black Widow sequel starring Johansson might be difficult, the actress is once again involved with the MCU. Unlike Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, who have teamed up with Marvel Studios to act in different roles, Johansson returned to the MCU as an executive producer on Thunderbolts*. If she never plays Natasha again, the MCU already has plenty of exciting appearances by the character, with some of them being better than the rest for key reasons.

The MCU is gearing up to introduce the Mutants, something we’ve known since Disney acquired Fox. While you could argue that the Mutants have already made a few brief appearances, the X-Men themselves haven’t yet entered the MCU.
Although their full debut is still some time away, Marvel has promised a major introduction in the future.
Even though we don’t know all the details, it’s clear that Feige and Marvel are taking their time to get it right. The X-Men’s arrival in the MCU will be a major moment and will shape the franchise for years to come.
Given the importance of this debut, fans are understandably anxious about who Marvel will cast. With an already-established X-Men universe, comparisons between the old and new casts are inevitable.

The MCU will soon welcome the Mutants. This is nothing new, of course, as we have known this since Disney acquired Fox. You may argue that the Mutants have already made multiple appearances in the MCU, but the X-Men haven’t. Although it will take some time for them to do so, we have been promised a significant debut in the future.
Now, even if we are unaware of all the specifics, we are confident that Feige and Marvel want to do this correctly because the X-Men’s MCU debut will be significant and will influence the franchise for years to come.
