Susie was born in Hong Kong, director, writer and producer, known for her first feature Ming Ming and the MV guru in the region.
Susie has been fascinated by western cinema's sophistication and eastern culture's unique Wuxia world. She determined to be a filmmaker since a kid yet hid her dream when told that a female having such thought is 'harsh' as film industry is made for man!
At teenage, Susie found her intense crave for art, film and theater. She joined Hong Kong's first experimental theatre group Zuni Icosahedron where developed her sensibility in translating reality into 'images'. She made loads of experimental films in super-8 and photos that later benefited her to attend the film school at Suny Purchase in New York where her film world was brightened by earlier classics and European cinema.
Susie left NY with short films portraying overseas Chinese; 'Among Fragments', 'Moon Chase', 'To Hide and Seek'. Above works' sensuous and innovative visual style led Susie to become the MV director in Hong Kong; the decade when the music industry dramatically blooming.
Possible that the east meets west adventures had enriched Susie to blend in the cultural visual metaphors through music; Susie has become the MV guru with unique visual signature. One of her videos directed for Anthony Wong's "Love with no night", Jacky Cheung's "web of love", Faye Wong's 'Di-Dar', Jeff Chang's 'True Love' had earned International/ Asian music awards. The partnership with pop legend Faye Wong is famous. Susie directed more than 10 Faye videos, as well as other numerous music videos for various artists. She also made lots of fashion and cosmetic commercials; Dior, Cartier, G2000, Bread n Butter, Clear Shampoo, Sony, Nike and etc.
In 2007, Susie made her debut film Ming Ming; a 100-min feature film that starring international acclaimed actress Zhou Xun, Daniel Wu and Tony Yeung. It was released in HK, China, Taiwan and Busan FF. The film put Susie on the map as one of cultish and daring female filmmakers.
It is possible that the Ming Ming experience was a revolutionary path, the course empowered Susie to create like an amateur. She becomes even more versatile; like a visual adventurer. She initiates different projects that inspires innovative visual ideas; "Utopia, momentarily" (a multi-media dance performance in 2016 HK New Vision Festival), "World in daze, Woman in Wind" (a photo installation exhibition in Beijing); a short film on contemporary Chinese women "Beauty University"; a musical film "Moon Wall"; a documentary "Mother", "Les Dancer", "the day with Faye", "Eason, let's take a walk!" "On the road to Vegas" ...
In 2015, Susie was invited by Medien Borad to Berlin as artist in residence where created film project "Red Moon In Berlin".
In 2016, invited by Nipkow Programme to Berlin to create a sci-fi web series Ying Yang.
Susie lives in Hong Kong, Beijing, Berlin, San Francisco, continues creating films in different form and genres.
