When "New Girl" ended in 2018 after seven seasons, it undoubtedly left a hole in people's hearts. Since 2011, people tuned into Fox every week to see what mishaps and misunderstandings Jessica Day (Zooey Deschanel) and her roommates would get into. There's no shortage of incredible "New Girl" episodes to watch, and if you go back, you may find new things to appreciate. Even if you don't, it's hard to get tired of watching an episode like "Background Check" where everyone's eccentricities are dialed up to 11.
Naturally, you may be ready to fill said heart-hole with something new yet oddly similar. "New Girl" is far from the only sitcom about a group of friends figuring out what to do in life while getting into copious high jinks. Or maybe you want something with a quirky female lead who's prone to burst into song. There can only ever be one "New Girl," but...

Compliance (2012) directed by Craig Zobel, features an ensemble cast led by Dreama Walker as Becky, Ann Dowd as Sandra, Pat Healy as Daniels, Philip Ettinger as Kevin, Ashlie Atkinson as Marti, and Stephen Payne as Harold. Compliance starts like any other thriller, slow and measured but when it picks up, it transforms into something entirely unexpected. The concept of prank calling in cinema isn’t new, but this film handles it in a way that becomes the true highlight of the story. Everything whether it’s the cast, the theme, or the storyline is restrained and purposeful, delivering a film that spans just 90 minutes. The film follows the story of Becky, an innocent and naive employee who becomes victim of a prank call.
The movie opens with the employees, led by Sandra, gathering for a morning meeting before the store opens. It’s going to be a busy day because it’s the weekend,...

It wasn't great to be a Millennial at the top of the 2010s. Not that other folks were having a ball, but by then people of that generation had spent a solid decade growing rapidly disillusioned with the state of the world upon coming of adult age. They and millions of others had also barely gone through the worst economic recession in the lifetimes of practically anyone still alive today. Plus, on top of somehow being both broke and utterly reckless spenders (or so the "Millennials are killing [Insert Name of Industry]" think-piece cottage industry at the time would have you believe), most of them were still in their early to mid-20s, which is a trying age for anyone who's ever lived.
So, naturally, we did what we always do when we're suffering: looked for opportunities to mock our deeply privileged lives of woe.

Having a favorite show canceled feels a bit like getting the rug pulled from underneath, or having a movie cut off half an hour before the end. Just as the characters become familiar, and just as the story starts to get more layered and interesting, they're unceremoniously taken away. It stings even more if the TV show ends on a cliffhanger, or a promising future setup.
Nowadays, if a show on a streaming service doesn't get the desired streaming numbers in the first week, it's likely it won't get a second season; Netflix is a particular scourge of shows canceled too soon. Official social media accounts get flooded by fans pleading for their series to get picked back up, and petitions are promptly written up. My Lady Jane and Kaos are some of the more recent casualties of this brutal trend, leading to infuriating cliffhangers. There have been shows that...

After watching Jeremy Saulnier's Rebel Ridge, many viewers might look for similar action thrillers that feature badass protagonists. Fortunately, even though Rebel Ridge brings a unique spin on the action genre's tropes, audiences can find many films that revolve around similar themes. One of these films was even directed by Jeremy Saulnier himself almost a decade before Rebel Ridge.
Set in a fictional town, the Netflix action movie hooks viewers with its opening scene, where two police officers ram an ex-Marine's bicycle and seize his money via civil forfeiture. Since the former Marine, Terry Richmond, intended to use the money to bail his cousin out of prison, he sets out on a torrid legal journey to get his money back before resorting to extreme measures. Like Jeremy Saulnier's other movies, Rebel Ridge never leaves a dull moment with its action and drama. Not all filmmakers can match Saulnier's directorial forte,...

Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23 star Krysten Ritter has a candid explanation for why the cult-favorite comedy was canceled. Debuting in April 2014 on ABC, the intriguingly titled sitcom followed Chloe, a party girl who routinely asks her roommates for payment up front and then starts to behave wildly until they leave. One roommate, June (Dreama Walker), proves more difficult to drive away. The series, which also featured Dawson's Creek alum James Van Der Beek as a fictionalized version of himself, got positive reviews and developed a loyal following. But it was canceled after only two seasons.
In an interview on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Ritter discussed why ABC canceled Don’t Trust the B—. Ritter mentions several factors, naming the show's scheduling first and describing it as being "dragged around by a sh–t-smeared dog." The actor also said that the show was "edgy". Still,...

Netflix‘s true-crime documentary Don’t Pick Up the Phone follows the story of a mysterious caller impersonating the police to provoke fast-food managers to strip search and assault employees accused of theft. The news surrounding these sick and twisted phone calls inspired fictionalized retellings of the hoax, leaving many viewers just as shocked and appalled.

People say never to judge a book by its cover, but when it comes to TV shows, sometimes it's just as important not to judge them by their titles. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," for example, doesn't exactly sound like the groundbreaking and celebrated hero's journey that it is. Other shows like "Selfie," "Cougar Town," and the eventually mercifully renamed "Scrotal Recall" (it's called "Lovesick" now) are also way better than their titles would lead one to believe.
The same is true of 2012's short-lived ABC comedy "Don't Trust the B----- in Apartment 23," an outrageous, surreal, fast-paced sitcom starring Krysten Ritter, Dreama Walker, James Van Der Beek, and Eric Andre. Whereas some other titles oversell the wackier aspects of the shows in question, though, "Don't Trust the B" simply can't be tamed or contained by something as simple as a title.

Ann Dowd leads our Oscar odds for her powerhouse performance in “Mass” as the mother of a school shooter. Bleecker Street releases this intense drama on October 8. The Emmy winner (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) is the early favorite to win Best Supporting Actress, according to the combined predictions of thousands of Gold Derby readers. If she does win, it would be a fitting end to a story almost 10 years in the making. Back in 2012 she had to finance her own Best Supporting Actress campaign for her role in the indie film “Compliance.” Better late than never.
“Compliance” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2012, which was followed by a release to general audiences that August. The film starred Dreama Walker as a fast-food employee and Dowd as her manager, who is tricked by a prankster over the phone into cruelly tormenting the employee. Thanks to the critical, box office and award-winning success of writer/director Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon A Time In... Hollywood", actor Brad Pitt who plays movie stunt double, bodyguard 'Cliff Booth' in the film, is open to reprising his character for an extended episode, 'streaming mini-series', featuring new content and character backstories:
"...I look at a mini-series where you can spend much more time on characters and story and explore angles you don't always get to do in films", said Pitt.
"So much of these films end up on the cutting room floor because they just don't fit in that box.
"That's why I think it's interesting that Tarantino previously took 'Hateful Eight' and ostensibly repurposed it as a three-part series. It's almost the best of both worlds.
"You have the cinema experience that exists, but you can actually put more content into the series format."

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Slashdance,” the third episode of “American Horror Story: 1984.”
When last we left our intrepid “American Horror Story: 1984” camp counselors, they had split into two groups and each seemed to be facing one of the killers at their respective doors. However, nothing is ever as simple as it appears on “American Horror Story!” In this case, it turned out that the Night Stalker (Zach Villa) was at the infirmary, but it was not Mr. Jingles himself (John Carroll Lynch) but rather a couple of local teenagers donning Mr. Jingles masks who were attempting to terrorize the about-to-be-reopened camp.
That’s right, in this town kids pull pranks on local businesses on the anniversary of the Camp Redwood massacre. Two of them threw a bag of human feces into the cabin and proceeded to celebrate their cleverness — until the real Mr.

James Van Der Beek is one of the 12 celebrities on “Dancing with the Stars” Season 28, but this won’t be his first time on the show. Sort of.
Remember “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23”? The short-lived ABC sitcom that ran from two seasons on which the “Dawson’s Creek” alum played a vain, narcissistic version of himself? Yeah, well, that James Van Der Beek was on “Dancing.” In the “Apartment 23” Season 1 finale, which aired in May 2012, James is cast on “Dancing” and develops a heated rivalry with Dean Cain after he learns that the former Superman has a larger dressing room.
The storyline carried over into Season 2, and Karina Smirnoff, who at the time had just won Season 13 of “Dancing” with J.R. Martinez, guest-starred as Dean’s partner. James wasn’t partnered with a real “Dancing” pro on the show, but rather the fictional Angie Beckencort (Missi Pyle), who was not great,...

Director Quentin Tarantino continues to build his cast for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Damon Herriman (Justified) has been cast in the role of Charles Manson in the film and Rafal Zawierucha will play director Roman Polanski, Sharon Tate’s husband. Meanwhile, Danny Strong, Sydney Sweeney, Rumer Willis, Dreama Walker, Margaret Qualley, Costa Ronin, Victoria Pedretti and Madisen Beaty have been cast in the film as well. I can’t believe how massive this cast list is getting. I’m pretty sure that next week we’ll get a notice saying that everyone is in the film.
According to The Wrap, Rumer Willis will play British actress Joanna Pettet; "Walker plays actress and singer Connie Stevens and Ronin (The Americans) portrays Polish actor Voytek Frykowski, who was one of the victims of the Manson Family’s murder spree at Roman Polanski’s home on Cielo Drive." Qualley will take...

As controversy and conjecture lay the ground for a scenario wherein Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood destroys the thinkpiece industry, Film Twitter, and everything in their immediate, terrible vicinity, the writer-director’s been busy transforming Tinseltown for his late-60s drama centered on a TV actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and stuntman buddy’s (Brad Pitt) attempt to enter the studio system, all the while living next door to Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski in the summer of 1969. Fittingly for his depiction of an era in which casts overflowed with big names and bit players, the ensemble is immense.
The recent headline-making additions are such: Maya Hawke, daughter of Ethan and Uma Thurman, as a fictional character, Flower Child; Lena Dunham as Manson member Catherine Louise “Gypsy” Share and bringer of skull-grinding discourse; Rumer Willis (another one-generation-removed reunion), Dreama Walker, Margaret Qualley, Costa Ronin, Victoria Pedretti, and Madisen Beaty...

The search for Quentin Tarantino’s Charles Manson is over. The Wrap confirms the director has cast Australian actor Damon Herriman as the infamous serial killer in his ninth feature, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” The casting news arrives as Tarantino is already well into production on the 1969-set movie, which is shaping up to be his penultimate effort if he sticks to his plan to retire after ten movies.
“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a television actor trying to break into the film industry alongside his friends and stuntman, played by Brad Pitt. The characters live next door to Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski, played by Margot Robbie and Rafal Zawierucha. Tate and four others were murdered by members of the Manson Family cult on August 9, 1969.
Herriman is best known in the U.S. for playing Dewey Crowe on five seasons of the FX series “Justified.

Earlier today, Quentin Tarantino found his Roman Polanski in Rafal Zawierucha and now, the two-time Academy Award winner has finally filled the role we’ve all been waiting for: Charles Manson. According to Cinema Blend (H/T The Wrap), Damon Herriman, star of Justified and Incorporated, has landed the part of the infamous serial killer in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Currently, the extent of Herriman’s role is unknown, but, seeing as a majority of his work has taken place on the small screen, this will undoubtedly be the most significant production of which he’s ever been apart. Joining Herriman on the non-fiction side of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is Rumer Willis (Joanna Pettet), Dreama Walker (Connie Stevens) and Costa Ronin (Voytek Frykowski). Margaret Qualley (The Nice Guys), Madisen Beaty (The Fosters) and Victoria Pedretti have also come aboard.

The new CBS series The Neighborhood could easily be an Odd Couple-esque sitcom in which two very different families live next door to one another, and hilarity ensues. The comedy about a white family moving into a predominantly black neighborhood will certainly go for laughs, but producers said at TCA today that they hope the show opens a dialogue as well.
Ep Jim Reynolds joined the TCA stage with star and exec producer Cedric the Entertainer, Max Greenfield, Beth Behrs, Tichina Arnold, Sheaun McKinney, and Marcel Spears to talk about the comedy and what they hope to achieve with it.
The show is loosely based on executive producer Reynolds’ life when he moved into his current neighborhood. CBS’ “The Neighborhood” stars Cedric the Entertainer, Max Greenfield and Beth Behrs. CBS’ “Here Comes the Neighborhood” and “Welcome to the Neighborhood” — the upcoming sitcom’s previous titles — starred Cedric the Entertainer, Josh Lawson and Dreama Walker.

One of the most promising new series of the 2018-19 season is recasting another lead role.
Per Deadline, Two Broke Girls star Beth Behrs has been drafted in to replace Dreama Walker who appeared in the pilot.

Behrs will play Gemma on the series which follows "the nicest guy in the Midwest" who uproots his family and moves to one of the least desirable neighborhoods in Los Angeles.

“Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” is a proverb whose simple existence proves the fact impressionable souls will do so without fail. The Neighborhood looks like a hoot.
CBS has released the first trailer for the series which stars Cedric the Entertainer, Max Greenfield, Tichina Arnold, Sheaun McKinney, Marcel Spears, Dreama Walker and Hank Greenspan.
The premise follows the Johnson family who moves to a deprived Los Angeles neighborhood and find themselves scrutinized because of how nice they appear to be.
In the trailer alone, you can see Cedric's Calvin up in arms at the way Johnson family patriarch, Dave speaks to him.
The trailer includes Josh Lawson as Dave Johnson, but there was a recast after the show landed a series order at CBS and New Girl's Max Greenfield will assume the role.
If first impressions are everything, then The Neighborhood has a lot going for it. The cast alone is great, and most of them have roots in the world of comedy.

CBS has pulled the trigger on two new multi-camera comedy series for the 2018-2019 season.
The network on Wednesday handed out series orders to Cedric the Entertainer‘s Welcome to the Neighborhood as well as an untitled comedy starring Damon Wayans, Jr.
Cedric the Entertainer's comes from a script written by The Big Bang Theory scribe, Jim Reynolds. It follows “the nicest guy in the Midwest” who uproots his family and moves to a neighborhood in L.A. that is not one of the most desirable ones.
The cast also includes Sheaun McKinney, Tichina Arnold, Dreama Walker, Marcel Spears and Hank Greenspan.
Meanwhile, Damon Wayans Jr. will stay in the world of comedy with a brand new series. It currently has no title, but it centers on a middle-aged couple who start to think about their younger years when a pop star moves in with them.
