Starz has revealed the trailer for Season 2 of “The Serpent Queen,” starring Samantha Morton. Featuring eight episodes, the second season of the historical drama series will return to the platform July 12.

Based on the book “Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France” by Leonie Frieda, the series details the life of the titular Queen Catherine (Morton), one of the longest-serving rulers in French history. She ruled the country for 50 years. The first season followed the young royal as she married into the 16th-century French court at 14 after being orphaned.

Catherine de Medici becomes the Queen Regent of France in the second season, as her son Charles IX has come of age. The trailer sees the royal try to avoid civil war in the country and going head to head with Queen Elizabeth I of England (Minnie Driver).

“Life is about what you’re willing to do to survive,” the Queen Regent states in the trailer.

The second and final season of "Star Trek: Prodigy" was released on Netflix on July 1, 2024, to almost no fanfare (as is the wont of Netflix). All 20 episodes of the season are now available, and Trekkies will be happy to know that the series connects to extant "Star Trek" lore in new and exciting ways.

For one, the series begins on board the U.S.S. Voyager-a, the improved, larger version of the central ship in "Star Trek: Voyager." Admiral Janeway is also still in command, serving on a ship populated mostly by students and cadets, all using the craft as a scientific research vessel. The idea of a high-powered school in space is an intriguing concept and could serve as the premise for a "Star Trek" spinoff in an of itself.

Also on board the Voyager-a is the Doctor (Robert Picardo), the emergency medical hologram initially activated in the first episode of "Voyager.

The first season of "Star Trek: Prodigy" was tantalizing for fans of "Star Trek: Voyager." The central cast of teen characters -- led by the plucky and overconfident Dal R'El (Brett Gray) -- discovered a lost and abandoned Starfleet vessel called the U.S.S. Protostar, a ship that was equipped with a holographic version of the Voyager's Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew). It would be up to Janeway and the teens to return the Protostar to Federation space.

"Prodigy" marked Mulgrew's first return to canonical "Star Trek" in 19 years, her last appearance being a cameo in 2002's "Star Trek: Nemesis." Later in "Prodigy," Mulgrew would also appear as the real-life Admiral Janeway, letting the actress pull double duty.

Star Trek: Prodigy, which marks the tenth series in the Star Trek Universe, follows a group of ragtag aliens who find an abandoned Starfleet ship and take control of it. In Season 2, the members of the team head out into space to look for the ship’s original owners.

Star Trek: Prodigy has a premiere date for its second season. Netflix has announced that new episodes of the animated sci-fi series will arrive on July 1st. Per What’s On Netflix, the season consists of 20 episodes, but it is not known if Netflix will split the season into two parts.

The animated series, produced for younger viewers, features the voices of Brett Gray, Ella Purnell, Jason Mantzoukas, Angus Imrie, Rylee Alazraqui, Dee Bradley Baker, Jimmi Simpson, John Noble, and Kate Mulgrew. The story follows a group of young aliens after they commandeer an abandoned ship, the USS Protostar, and travel through space, headed toward the Alpha Quadrant. They are guided by a hologram of Star Trek: Voyager's Captain Kathryn Janeway (Mulgrew).

Oscar nominee Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting) has joined the cast of Starz’s The Serpent Queen season two as ‘Virgin Queen’ Elizabeth I. Driver’s will be a recurring role, while Angus Imrie (Fleabag), Emma McDonald (Moonhaven), Stanley Morgan (The Sandman), and Philippine Velge (Station Eleven) have come on board as series regulars.

“Star Trek: Prodigy” has set its official launch date on Netflix.

Season 1 of the animated series will debut on the streamer on Dec. 25. The announcement was made as part of Netflix’s annual Geeked Week.

It was announced in October that the series would be moving to Netflix after it was canceled at Paramount+ despite having been renewed for a second season. Netflix will also be airing the second season, though there is no premiere date for it at the time of this publishing.

With the move, “Prodigy” will be the first new “Star Trek” series to air domestically outside of the Paramount ecosystem since the revamped “Star Trek” TV universe launched with “Star Trek: Discovery” in 2017.

Per the official description of “Prodigy,” the show follows “a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future.

Star Trek: Prodigy has found a new home. Paramount+ cancelled the sci-fi animated series in June before the second season was completed. Season one is coming to Netflix later this year and the second season will arrive on the streamer in 2024, once the episodes have been completed.

On June 23, 2023, Paramount announced that it was going to remove several shows from its streaming service Paramount+ and cancel its animated Nickelodeon series "Star Trek: Prodigy" after the conclusion of its second season, due out in 2024. After a break, the Star Trek franchise is returning to Netflix. The global streamer has picked up the animated kids series Star Trek: Prodigy for the U.S. and most international territories in a deal with CBS Studios.

It follows Paramount+’s decision in June to remove a number of originals, including Star Trek: Prodigy, from the platform in a cost-cutting content write-down and not to proceed with the previously commissioned second season of the animated show.

Season 1 of Star Trek: Prodigy, which was previously available on Paramount+, will be released on Netflix later in 2023. The second season, currently in production, will debut on Netflix in 2024. Excluded from the deal are Canada, where Prodigy is carried by CTV.ca and the CTV App, and in SkyShowtime’s European territories: the Nordics, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Central and Eastern Europe.

Well, Paramount+ went there.

The streaming service on Friday canceled a wave of original series, and there are some shockers.

Before we dig into the cancellations, the canceled shows will be removed from its platform as the company takes a content write-down.

The news isn't too surprising. HBO Max opened the floodgates for the likes of Showtime and Starz to pull shows off the air and their platforms.

In fact, some shows didn't even see the light of day. It's a precedent that is a stark reminder of how media companies are set up nowadays.

We'll begin with Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, which launched earlier this year.

Despite a strong critical response, the series will not be returning.

Paramount+ has canceled a slew of its originals including Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Star Trek: Prodigy, Queen of the Universe and The Game and is taking the shows off its platform as it becomes the latest media company to take a content write-down.

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies has been canceled after one season, Star Trek: Prodigy will not be going forth with its previously announced second season, The Game has been canceled after two seasons and Graham Norton-hosted reality series Queen of the Universe has been axed after two seasons.

All of these titles will be removed from Paramount+ with the studios planning to shop some of them to rival broadcasters and streamers.

The company will take a content impairment charge and is expected to reveal the financial impact at its next earnings.

“Fleabag” star Angus Imrie and “Am I Being Unreasonable?” actor Juliet Cowan have joined the cast of the provocatively-titled short film “Does Your Condom Make You Fat?”

Described as an “awkward” comedy-drama, the film explores a world in which men can become pregnant. The script is from Danielle Papamichael.

Imrie plays Owen, a happy-go-lucky lad, whose reliance on the Zap App for effective contraception is disrupted when his phone battery dies. This realization triggers his fears of an unwanted pregnancy, amplified by his date’s early unannounced departure. Throughout the film, Owen grapples with a rollercoaster of emotions as he confronts the unintended consequences of his actions.

Imrie’s other credits include “The Crown,” in which he played a young Prince Edward, as well as “Star Trek: Prodigy” and “The Archers.” Meanwhile, Cowan recently starred in “The Power,” “Flatshare” and “Everything I Know About Love.”

The Star Trek Universe continues to expand with Paramount+ announcing the renewal of its live-action “Strange New Worlds” through Season 3 and its animated “Lower Decks” through Season 5.

The third season of “Strange New Worlds” and the fifth season of “Lower Decks” will be comprised of 10 episodes each, but no air dates have been announced. But the streamer announced Tuesday that the second season of “Strange New Worlds” will premiere on July 15, 2023, and the third season of “Lower Decks” will premiere in “late summer.”

Season 2 of “Strange New Worlds” will feature a special crossover episode between the two series featuring both live-action and animation. It’ll be directed by longtime “Trek” actor and director Jonathan Frakes (Will Riker).

The critically acclaimed original animated kids’ series “Star Trek: Prodigy” is slated to return in winter 2023 for its second season.

Never have truer words been said, and nor have they fitted better than to The Kid Who Would Be King. Joe Cornish (writer and director) started his career, doing silly skits with Star Wars figures, back when that was cutting-edge comedy. He went on to make Attack the Block, the interesting sci-fi action film, about an inner-city housing estate being attacked by extra-terrestrial monsters. It was dripping with both alien blood and social commentary.

The Kid Who Would Be King introduces us to some beautiful animation, explaining the Arthurian myth of the sword, Merlin, Morgana. It wraps up, with the evil Morgana being defeated and trapped.

Paramount+ today debuted the official mid-season trailer for season one of its original animated kids’ series, Star Trek: Prodigy. The trailer was introduced by executive producers Kevin and Dan Hageman, during the “Star Trek” universe panel at New York Comic Con.

It was also announced that Ronny Cox has joined the season one voice cast with a recurring role. Cox will reprise his Star Trek: The Next Generation role as Admiral Edward Jellico, a promotion from his original character, Captain Jellico.

Star Trek: Prodigy will have its mid-season return on Thursday, Oct. 27, exclusively for Paramount+ subscribers in the US, and on Friday, Oct. 28 in Latin America, Australia, Italy and the U.K. Following the series’ return, new episodes of the 10-episode-long second half will be available to stream weekly on Thursdays. The series will air later in the year in South Korea, Germany, Italy, France, Austria and Switzerland.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Prodigy are expanding their casts. Oscar nominee Carol Kane is set for a recurring role in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and Billy Campbell has joined the voice cast of animated series Prodigy. The news was announced Thursday as part of the global live-streamed Star Trek Day event.

Kane will recur as Pelia in Season 2. Highly educated and intelligent, this engineer suffers no fools. Pelia solves problems calmly and brusquely, thanks to her many years of experience. You can see a first-look photo of Kane as Pelia above.

A band of misfits come together to find a home where they’ll be accepted in Netflix’s latest CG-animated adventure, “Back to the Outback.” Except the lovable outcasts here happen to be among the world’s deadliest creatures, all of whom — along with a cute but completely obnoxious koala bear (voiced by Broadway’s Tim Minchin) — escape from a Sydney zoo to find a home in the Australian Outback, where they’ll be loved for who they are and not feared for what they look like.

First-time feature directors Clare Knight and Harry Cripps previously worked together on “Larrikins,” the Outback-themed feature from DreamWorks Animation that was scuttled in the wake of the studio’s acquisition by NBCUniversal in 2016. Cripps was set to co-direct the film alongside “Puss in Boots” director Chris Miller, while Knight, a Dwa veteran who had worked on the “Kung Fu Panda” trilogy, was to serve as editor.

A perky kids’ distraction from Netflix Animation, “Back to the Outback” is at pains to remind its audience throughout of its very Australian credentials, sometimes to endearing effect. The newest member of Paramount+'s Star Trek family, the animated, family-friendly Star Trek: Prodigy, has earned a second season only three weeks into its first season.

Star Trek: Prodigy will continue flying: Paramount+ has renewed the animated kids’ series for Season 2, less than two weeks after the show debuted on Oct. 28.

The first season is currently releasing new episodes weekly on Thursdays through Nov. 18, after which it will resume with five more installments beginning Thursday, Jan. 6. (The 10-episode second half of Season 1 will unspool at a later date next year.)

“Star Trek: Prodigy” has been renewed for Season 2 at Paramount Plus.

Series executive producer Heather Kadin had previously said the show would return for a second season, but it had not been officially confirmed until now. The renewal news comes after the show has aired only three episodes, including the two-part series premiere.

New episodes of the first half of Season 1 will continue to roll out weekly on Thursdays through Nov. 18. The remaining five episodes of the first half will resume airing weekly on Thursday, Jan. 6. The remaining 10 episodes of Season 1 will air later in 2022 on Paramount Plus. The first season will then air on Nickelodeon, though the premiere date has yet to be set.

More adventures are on the horizon for the crew of the U.S.S. Protostar. Ahead of its Season 1 midseason finale, Paramount+ has renewed popular animated kids series Star Trek: Prodigy for a second season. The streamer has ordered a 10-episode second season for premiere sometime next year.

The renewal announcement comes amid strong viewership for Season 1, which saw the top-performing premiere day out for any original animated kids series on the service, according to the streamer.

Season 1 premiered on Thursday, Oct. 28 with a one-hour episode on Paramount+, with new episodes rolling out weekly on Thursdays through Thursday, Nov. 18. Following a mid-season break, the remaining five episodes of season one’s first half will begin streaming weekly, starting on Thursday, Jan. 6.
