Let’s face it. Theatre has been the most successful place for stories about popular musicians. Alicia Keys’ “Hell’s Kitchen” is selling big on Broadway, as is “Mj.” “A Beautiful Noise,” about Neil Diamond ‘s professional and personal history, had a nice run there, and is touring the country after its run in Los Angeles. We’ve had “Tina,” “Jersey Boys,” The Temptations’ “Ain’t Too Proud,” Carole King’s “Beautiful” and others. A new musical is being tested now about Frank Sinatra. But the most exciting news arrives this spring, when recent Tony winner Jonathan Groff portrays Bobby Darin.
But movies about musical stars? A mixed bag. (including Kevin Spacey in a bad one about Bobby Darin) Documentaries have been the safest form to chronicle the life of famous musicians: Ones about David Crosby, Joan Baez, Springsteen, and Linda Ronstadt. And, of course, “Woodstock” and Martin Scorsese’s “Last Waltz.

Frozen is one of Disney’s most beloved movies of all time, and the holiday season is the perfect time to revisit it.
However, no matter how often you watch the movie and it’s sequel, we bet that there’s so much you don’t know about them.
Believe it or not, the original blockbuster premiered in theaters more than 10 years ago. In honor of the special anniversary, Vanity Fair got the film’s stars including Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff together to look back on the start of the successful franchise.
The feature revealed a lot about how the final movie we know and love differed from the original that Disney set out to create. It featured different actresses reading for Elsa and Anna (the characters played by Idina and Kristen) and a very different plot.

CBS ordered a pilot for new multi-cam show Zarna, the network announced Tuesday.
The show will star stand-up comedian Zarna Garg as “a proud immigrant woman who’s been raising her American born kids on Indian values.” But, the logline continues, “now that they’re getting older, it’s time for her to focus on her own American dream.”
Garg also serves as writer and executive producer, with Darlene Hunt as writer, executive producer and showrunner. Mindy Kaling and Jessica Kumai Scott will also executive produce via Kaling International, along with Kevin Hart, Bryan Smiley and Mike Stein of Hartbeat. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.
Garg released an Amazon comedy special, One in a Billion, in 2023. She also appeared as herself in this year’s Jonathan Groff- and Karan Soni-led A Nice Indian Boy. She has nearly one million followers on TikTok, where she’s known for her comedy sketches.

There’s no love lost between She Loves Me lovebirds, Laura Benanti and Zachary Levi.
Though they shared the Broadway stage in a successful and Tony Award-winning 2016 musical revival, Benanti made it clear in a new podcast interview that she was never a fan of Levi, who at the time was a successful TV star from NBC’s Chuck and on his way to movie stardom as the title character in DC’s Shazam! “I never liked him,” Benanti told Eric Williams on his That’s a Gay Ass Podcast. “Everyone was like, ‘He’s so great!’ And I was like, ‘No, he’s not. Moana 2 Box Office (North America): Beats Frozen II’s Black Friday Gross (Photo Credit – Instagram)

Another Grammy nominations clean-sweep for Broadway: For the third consecutive year, all the nominees for Best Musical Theater Album are for Broadway productions. No West End, Off Broadway, regional theater – or 2022 winner TikTok.
The six 2025 Grammy nominees in the theater category are Hell’s Kitchen, Merrily We Roll Along, The Notebook, The Outsiders, Suffs and The Wiz. Four of the shows are still running, though two of those (The Notebook and Suffs) will be closed when the winners are announced in February so would be unable to benefit ticket-wise from the publicity.
This year’s cast album nominations mean that plenty of performers not typically associated with music, or only music, could potentially tick off a box on the long road to Egot status: Daniel Radcliffe, Wayne Brady, Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez, among others.

The prize catch of the title isn’t exactly who you might expect in “A Nice Indian Boy,” a romantic comedy that brings a welcome queer angle to that substantial subgenre of love stories tangled up in Indian social mores and cross-generational family politics. In many such films, Naveen (Karan Soni) would be the most desirable of matches for a female protagonist: good-looking, well-spoken and a working doctor. That he’s gay puts him in the less traditionally masculine role of the one seeking a suitor; that his “nice Indian boy” is in fact Jay (Jonathan Groff), a white man raised in Naveen’s culture, is the more complicating factor in director Roshan Sethi’s bright, big-hearted if overly tidy third feature.
Still, Sethi and screenwriters Eric Randall — adapting a stage play by Madhuri Shekar — aren’t out to subvert every trope and tradition in the book. From its meet-cute...

Everything to Know About Frozen 3: What Fans Can Anticipate from the Next Chapter! ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
In 2013, Disney’s beloved animated movie, Frozen, quickly became a global sensation and captivated audiences with a modern take on Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen. The movie’s success paved the way for a sequel, Frozen 2, released in 2019. Despite Frozen 2’s mixed reviews, the box office success made it possible for the franchise to bring a third chapter, and fans eagerly await the continuing story of Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven. Although Frozen 2 lacks a traditional villain, offering spiritual clarity for Arendelle and Northuldra, its introspective theme, Into the Unknown, sets the stage for new possibilities in Frozen 3.

During the era of network television, shows used to have a shelf-life of at least 10 seasons. Some TV series that were made before the Ott boom continue to enjoy the freedom to adapt and improve over the course of many years, but the same can’t be said about made-for-ott shows, especially the ones on Netflix. Yes, “guilty pleasure content” like Emily in Paris and Elite has benefited from the hate-watch syndrome. However, a lot of really good shows have been unceremoniously axed by the streaming platform before they could find their audience. The one cancellation that hurt viewers the most was Mindhunter. Now, ever since its termination, fans have been clamoring for David Fincher, Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Anna Torv, and the rest of the team to come together for at least one more season. Like the monkey’s paw curling effect, they did return to Netflix, but just via different projects.

Jonathan Groff singing Bollywood tunes is the centerpiece of “A Nice Indian Boy,” a groundbreaking gay rom-com that’s heating up the BFI London Film Festival.
Director Roshan Sethi and stars Groff and Karan Soni (the “Deadpool” franchise) are challenging Hollywood norms with their cross-cultural love story, which debuted at SXSW. It aims to bring a fresh perspective to both LGBTQ+ and South Asian representation on screen.
The genesis of the project traces back to 2019, when Levantine Films optioned Madhuri Shekar’s play of the same name and Eric Randall adapted it as a screenplay. Sethi came aboard in 2021 after the producers saw his previous film “7 Days.” He then approached his real-life partner Soni to co-star. Groff signed on after watching “7 Days.”

Jonathan Groff was the first actor cast in the rom-com A Nice Indian Boy and he had no idea Karan Soni was also gay when he suggested the actor for his love interest!
The co-stars hit the red carpet together while attending the premiere during the opening night of NewFest on Thursday (October 10) at Sva Theater in New York City.
They were joined on the carpet by director Roshan Sethi, who happens to be Karan‘s longtime partner!
In a new interview with The Daily Beast, Roshan revealed that Jonathan requested Karan to be his love interest in the movie without knowing they were a couple, or that Karan was gay.
The article notes, “Sethi thought he’d have to work to court Groff—’An independent film needs a famous white person to get made,’ he half-jokes—when in actuality Groff was already envisioning the exact film that now exists.

Brody Grant, the Tony-nominated actor who plays Ponyboy Curtis in Broadway’s The Outsiders, will return to the role next week following a monthlong hiatus, Deadline has confirmed.
While no reason was given for his absence, a representative for the musical said in a statement, “The Outsiders is a very demanding project. He needed time away and is returning next week. As with any long-running shows, our performers regularly take time away, when needed, to recharge and reset.”
Grant’s understudies, Josh Strobl and Trevor Wayne, have been covering the role in his absence.
Grant was Tony-nominated last season in the Best Leading Actor/Musical, losing out to Jonathan Groff (Merrily We Roll Along).
In addition to Grant, the Broadway cast includes Sky Lakota-Lynch, Brent Comer, Jason Schmidt, Joshua Boone and Emma Pittman.
Variety was first to report.

HBO brings some great dramas that focus on historical events. Chernobyl is a five-part miniseries that told us of the events during and after the real nuclear disaster.
Of course, when the Chernobyl disaster happened, the Soviet Union would try to hide it all. It ended up being one of the biggest disasters at the time, showing the realities of radiation not just to those in the immediate vicinity, but those around the disaster.
The series then focused on the clean-up efforts, while people looked to figure out what really happened that night. Not only was this important to help people in need, but it was essential to prevent it from happening again. Chernobyl offers us a mixture of drama and history. There are many shows just like it, and here are five to watch next.

Since it took the streaming scene by storm, Netflix has had some great shows available on its service. However, as soon as the streaming giant became known for its quality prestige dramas, it also became quite notorious for canceling some of its best shows without any rhyme or reason, despite some of them being fan favorites.

Mindhunter is one of those shows that needed more love from Netflix, but instead ended up being shelved for good. There is no way that Mindhunter is going to come back, reveals David Fincher Bill and Holden in Mindhunter || Netflix
Despite having two brilliant seasons that fans adored, Mindhunter will not be getting a third season.

The latest Doctor Who revival hasn't been the hit most expected; with Disney+ bringing the series to a global audience and giving the long-running sci-fi series a much-needed cash injection, fans imagined it might finally reach the same heights as The Mandalorian and Stranger Things.
Instead, returning showrunner Russell T Davies' new season 1 divided fans and viewership hasn't been good. That's despite claims the main goal was drawing much younger viewers to the show.
Then, there was the expected (and unfortunate) backlash to Doctor Who featuring a Black lead and LGBTQ+ themes. Ultimately, things came to a head in July with a damning report suggesting the show could be cancelled after season 2 and that Disney+ might part ways with the BBC over what's proven to be a failed, pricey experiment for the streamer.

Exclusive: The BBC has dismissed viewer complaints about an episode of Doctor Who featuring a historic gay kiss between Ncuti Gatwa and Jonathan Groff.
Two disgruntled audience members took issue with the “inappropriate sexual innuendo” that developed between Gatwa’s Time Lord and Groff’s bounty hunter, Rogue, in a Bridgerton-inspired story.
The viewers said the Season 14 episode, titled ‘Rogue,’ featured content that was “unsuitable for children.” One person added that the speed of the Doctor and Rogue’s connection was “concerning.”
The BBC’s Executive Complaints Unit (Ecu) threw out the concerns. In a ruling on Thursday, the unit said the sexual innuendo was mild and suitable for Doctor Who’s young audience.
“The Ecu considered the sexual innuendo to be towards the mildest end of the spectrum and in any case likely to go over the heads of children,” the Ecu said.

Do you want to build a snowman? Are you still avoiding capes? After the gargantuan success of both "Frozen" and its sequel at Walt Disney Animation and "Incredibles 2" at Pixar Animation, it should come as no surprise that both franchises are being given more sequels, as announced officially at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California today.
/Film's Jacob Hall was in attendance during the studio's big panel presentation at D23, where the studios revealed "Frozen 3" will arrive in 2027, and "The Incredibles 3" is currently in development at Pixar. Since neither "Frozen II" nor "Incredibles 2" had specific titles for the sequels, it doesn't seem like the three-quels will have any sort of subtitle either.
So, what do we know about both of these sequels after the big announcement at D23?

Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman, the writing team behind the M. Night Shyamalan thriller Knock at the Cabin, have been tapped to adapt Paramount Pictures’ coming-of-age horror thriller Wilderness Reform, based on the novel of the same name written by Harrison Query and Matt Query.
Lindsey Anderson Beer, who wrote and made her feature directorial debut with the horror movie Pet Sematary: Bloodline for the studio last year, is producing the feature through her Lab Brew production company as part of her first-look deal with Paramount.
Also producing is Scott Glassgold through his production company Ground Control.
The story is set in a wilderness camp for troubled teens and tells of a 13-year-old boy named Ben who is sent there as part of a reform program. Although the counselors are overly happy, a sinister current runs through the place. The boys Ben befriends seem to have unique skills, which is lucky,...

It can be tough to catch the magic of unease that “Longlegs” has laid on people during and after seeing the film.
Since seeing the latest Oz Perkins horror film, many have been clamoring to recapture that magic. Luckily there are plenty of TV shows that balance the supernatural with the everyday when it comes to hunting and tracking down a serial killer — and worse.
These are the seven TV shows you should check out once you see “Longlegs” and are needing to extend that pit-in-your-stomach feeling.

Much like “Longlegs,” “Yellowjackets” toes the line on whether or not the things happening to the stranded high school soccer team are supernatural or just horrific in a realistic sense. The stranded girls are constantly fighting with the fear and paranoia for what could be with...

As much as classic Doctor Who fans hate to admit it, romantic tension between the Doctor and their companions is part of the formula. Eight was a dashing lead alongside Grace Holloway, Ten and Rose’s love story has been well documented, while Fifteen’s flirtation with almost-companion Rogue has us hoping that Jonathan Groff will board the Tardis again. And heck, long-time Whovians know all about the behind-the-scenes marriage of Four and Romana II.
So it’s understandable that some fans feel a bit of disappointment about the way things ended up between Jodie Whittaker’s 13th Doctor and Yaz, her most consistent companion. Despite the clear attraction between the two, Thirteen regenerated into David Tennant’s Fourteen before they could act on their feelings.
Whittaker has a message for those longing for more pining between the Doctor and Yaz: “[N]ever say never! We’ve got adventures to do.

Those lucky enough to attend May’s Disney’s upfronts at the North Javits Center were treated to clips, teases and appearances from some of the world’s biggest stars.
In the spotlight from the Bob Iger-led Mouse House were hits from the Disney stable including The Acolyte, Welcome to Wrexham, Abbott Elementary and a wealth of ESPN sports shows. The combined budget must have been astronomical.
But almost completely absent from the upfront festivities was Doctor Who, the iconic British sci-fi series that Disney+ now co-produces with the BBC following what was undoubtedly one of the biggest global TV show deals of the past decade. Doctor Who was handed a minor bit of real estate at the North Javits, but its lack of front-and-center placement may spin a yarn about the series’ position in the Disney priority log nearly three years on from the deal being struck.
