Frederick W. Green was born in Seattle, Washington on November 16, 1946. He graduated from Princeton University in 1969 with a degree in economics. Shortly thereafter, he began a 38-year career on Wall Street.
Green's interest in filmmaking dates back to 2003, when he executive produced a documentary on gun control titled Guns & Mothers. This critically acclaimed work was showcased on the PBS series Independent Lens and shown on more than 300 PBS affiliates.
Green's first feature-film project was A Prairie Home Companion, which he co-executive produced. Directed by the legendary Robert Altman and starring Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Tommy Lee Jones, Kevin Kline, Woody Harrelson, John C. Reilly, Virginia Madsen and Garrison Keillor, Prairie was released in 2006.
Green was an executive producer on Short Term 12, which was released in 2013. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival, where it won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. One of the best-reviewed films of 2013, Short Term 12 garnered a Gotham award and an Independent Spirit nomination for its lead actress, Brie Larson.
Green was an executive producer on It Follows, directed by David Robert Mitchell. This genre-bending horror film was enthusiastically received at its world premiere at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
Green also shares an executive producer credit on Partisan. Directed by Australian filmmaker Ariel Kleiman and starring Vincent Cassel, Partisan had its premiere at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
Green was an executive producer on Louder Than Bombs, the first English-language film by Norwegian director Joachim Trier. Starring Gabriel Byrne, Isabelle Huppert and Jesse Eisenberg, Louder Than Bombs premiered in competition at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
