Namit Malhotra is a film producer and business executive. Through his production company Prime Focus Studios, he is currently in production on a number of projects, including: 'Ramayana', an ambitious adaptation of epic Indian saga 'Ramayana' in association with Indian actor-producer Yash's production company Monster Mind Creations; 'The Garfield Movie' in partnership with Alcon Entertainment for distribution by Sony Pictures; and 'Animal Friends' in partnership with Legendary Entertainment and Ryan Reynold's production company Maximum Effort.
Namit has previously produced 'Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva', and has served as Executive Producer on 'Those About To Die', 'Rally Road Racers', 'Horizon Line', 'The Hurricane Heist', and 'The Sickhouse'.
Namit is also the Global CEO of leading visual entertainment services company DNEG, and the founder and non-executive director of DNEG's parent company, Prime Focus Limited. DNEG has been awarded the Academy Award for 'Best Visual Effects' seven times, for its work on 'Dune: Part One', 'Tenet', 'First Man', 'Blade Runner 2049', 'Ex Machina', 'Interstellar', and 'Inception'.
The third-generation of a filmmaking family, Namit's professional journey began in 1995 with a garage start-up in Mumbai, a single Apple Mac computer and a vision that convinced three of the tutors from his computer graphics course to join him. Fast forward ten years and Namit was listing his company - Prime Focus - on the National Stock Exchange of India, having pioneered a series of technology firsts in the Bollywood film industry and built India's largest independent media services company.
His success in India enabled Namit to head west, first to the UK and then on to North America. A series of acquisitions allowed him to quickly create a global footprint for Prime Focus, bridging the gap between East and West.
In 2014 Namit acquired respected British visual effects studio Double Negative, which he rebranded as DNEG and has scaled to become a global network of award-winning visual effects and animation studios across North America, Europe, India, and Australia.
In August 2021, Namit oversaw an investment of $250 million by Novator Capital Advisers, LLP in subsidiaries of Prime Focus Limited, positioning his group of companies to explore opportunities in adjacent categories and formats, including the production of original content and IP creation.
