Review: Ever since David Fincher’s Se7en, I’ve been a fan of the simple premise of a detective hunting down a serial killer. This game of cat and mouse allows for just the right amount of mystery and intrigue that will keep you guessing until the end. I’d argue the big reveal at the end is nearly as synonymous with crime thrillers as cops and criminals. If there’s one thing a good mystery needs, it’s something unexpected. And Damaged certainly has that.

Five years ago, a serial killer terrorized Chicago. Detective Dan Lawson was assigned to the case but couldn’t bring the killer to justice. It left him a badly damaged man, drinking on the job and obsessed with revenge. Doubly so because one of the victims was his own girlfriend whom he discovered, her head and limbs in the shape of a cross, her torso missing.

In Edinburgh, Detective Glen Boyd finds himself investigating a murder that looks to be the work of the same person. He reaches out to the Chicago Pd, who are only too happy to put Lawson on the next flight to Scotland. Fortunately, there weren’t any motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane.

Things, of course, don’t go well.

Vincent Cassel plays an aging Edm DJ in the upcoming comedy thriller from French music video director So Me, aka Bertrand de Langeron. Artistic director of the Ed Banger label and known for his music videos for Justice, Kanye West, Mgmt, and Kid Cudi, So Me is making his feature film debut with the still-untilted French feature for Netflix.

Black Swan and Ocean’s Thirteen star Cassel plays Scorpex, a once-famous DJ now on the downside who gets a chance to return to the top when an agent from French intelligence agency Dgsi (played by Golden Mustache actress Laura Felpin) recruits him to take down Vestax (French YouTuber Mister V), his young and fast-rising rival on the Edm scene. Now, just eight days shy of the one year anniversary of that news, a trailer for Damaged has arrived online, along with some release date information: the film will be receiving a theatrical, digital, and on demand release on April 12th. Deals have been done for Germany (Tiberius), Latin America (California Filmes), Australia (Rialto), Japan (New Select) and Scandinavia (Scanbox).

Asif Akbar directed the film, which Peg also produced, in which White plays a DEA agent who returns with Ptsd after a botched mission, He has to protect his family from a home invasion when a recenty released convict (Rourke) and his henchmen come after their stash of millions hidden inside the agent’s home.

These dime-a-dozen Bruce Willis movies are as bad as they've ever been, and I really hope no one is wasting their money on them. Just stay away.

Saban Films has unveiled the official trailer for action crime thriller The Commando, another forgettable formulaic action feature to ignore because all of these films are the same nowadays. A DEA agent with Ptsd returns home after a botched mission and must now protect his family from a home invasion after a recently freed convict and his henchmen come back for their stash of millions hidden inside the agent's home. "Stakes are high and lives are at risk in this head-to-head battle as the agent stops at nothing to protect his family against the money-hungry criminals." Why do they always recycle the same "protect your home because they want the money" plot over and over? The Commando stars Mickey Rourke and Michael Jai White, with Jeff Fahey, Brendan Fehr, John Enos III, Donald Cerrone, and Gianni Capaldi. At least the action doesn't look so bad in this film.

Exclusive: Vertical Entertainment has secured the U.S. distribution rights to A Day to Die, an action-thriller starring Frank Grillo, Bruce Willis, Leon, and Kevin Dillon. Wes Miller directed the indie from a script he co-wrote with Scott Mallace and Rab Berry. The pic is expected to be released in 2022.

In the film, a disgraced parole officer (Dillon) is indebted to a local gang leader and forced to pull off a series of dangerous drug heists within twelve hours in order to pay the $2 million dollars he owes, rescue his kidnapped pregnant wife, and settle a score with the city’s corrupt police chief (Willis), who is working with the gang leader and double-crossed him years ago.

There is surely a market for an Underworld B-movie knock off, even a badly made one…. Is what I thought before I saw Among the Shadows. Sci-fi thriller Astro comes from director Asif Akbar and tells of a billionaire’s private space exploration program returning to Earth with an abducted extraterrestrial from a newly discovered alien planet.

Astro stars the underrated, and underused Gary Daniels, Dominique Swain and Marshal Hilton, along with Louis Mandylor, Max Wasa, Omi Vaidya, Luke G. Crosby, Orson Chaplin, Gianni Capaldi, Spice Williams-Crosby, Courtney Akbar, Christopher Showerman and Michael Pare.

Director Asif Akbar and the films co-writer Bernard Selling are currently finishing the accompanying Astro book series based on the movie, which be released on Amazon in July – alongside the DVD which releases in the U.S. and North America through eOne and ITN Distribution on June 6th.

It started as a seemingly simple security job, but Brett (Jason London) soon discovers that he's protecting more than just a building, he's protecting the world from something sinister that wants to get out in the new horror film Nightworld. Ahead of the film's release later this month from Gravitas Ventures, we've been provided with an exclusive clip from the movie for Daily Dead readers to enjoy right now.

Tagline: "The Night will Fall." Nightworld is a new horror film from production house Open Frames. Shot in Bulgaria, the film involves a mansion and its sordid history. Something resides in the home's shadowy crevices. The film is currently in post-production. And, Nightworld centrally stars Jason London, Robert Englund and Gianni Capaldi. The film's first mysterious trailer is hosted here. The film's trailer shows a new head of security moving into a rustic mansion. Once settled in, Brett (London) uncovers information about this apartment's shadowy owners and murderous, former employees. Now, their ghosts are returning to produce one more fatality. As well as the trailer, the film poster for Nightworld is hosted here. The graphic shows a figure and several strange hieroglyphs. A key will open this door, which obviously leads to hell. With planned projects on Dutch painter Hieronymous Bosch and more Eisenstein on the way, Greenaway takes a detour in 2016 with Walking to Paris, a portrait of Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi, who walked from Bucharest to Paris in 1903 and 1904. British actor Emun Elliott (who has appeared in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus and Exodus: Gods and Kings) stars as Brancusi, while Swiss actress Carla Juri (of the infamous Wetlands (review), 2013) and Scottish actor Gianni Capaldi are also in the cast.

A Certain Justice, aka Puncture Wounds, is the latest film from the foursome of Giorgio Serafini, Dolph Lundgren, Vinnie Jones and Gianni Capaldi, who previously worked together on Hard Rush (aka Ambushed) and Blood of Redemption. This time round the group is joined by Ufc Fighter-turned action star Cung Le (from the awesome Dragon Eyes) and one of my favourite female stars working in Hollywood today, Briana Evigan.

The film tells the story of soldier John Nguyen, who returns home from a traumatic tour of duty in Iraq struggling with Ptsd. What little peace he had managed to build around him is shattered one fateful day when he rescues a local call girl from a group of violent pimps, killing one and severely injuring the other.

Frankie Boyle will play a recovering alcoholic in an upcoming short film.

Gasping - Boyle's debut film - mirrors the Mock the Week star's battle with alcoholism. Boyle stopped drinking at the age of 26, and is now teetotal.

Boyle stars alongside Still Game's Gavin Mitchell, who plays a fellow attendee of Alcoholics Anonymous, and Gianni Capaldi, who plays his best friend.

Capaldi told film website Action Elite: "[Frankie's character] gives up drinking in this flick and he loses his job because he had a drink problem, so I offer him a job to work at a distillery I owned.

"So all I'm doing is reminiscing about the days when we used to party and drink. We went to Japan and everywhere else in the world and I'm trying to get him back on the drink. I'm that obnoxious, annoying friend who is continuously trying."
