Update: Deadline has now confirmed that Craig is in talks to star, though no deals have been closed. The trade also believes that Sgt. Rock will be Guadagnino's next project.
Original article follows.
Luca Guadagnino may not seem like the most obvious fit to helm a comic book/superhero movie, but the filmmaker is believed to be in talks with DC Studios to direct an upcoming Dcu project.
Jeff Sneider first mentioned that Guadagnino was "being courted for a future Dcu movie" in his newsletter back in September, and Nexus Point News later weighed in, claiming to reveal the film he's in talks to direct.
Guadagnino is reportedly set to helm a Sgt. Rock movie, and his Challengers and Queer collaborator Justin Kuritzkes is on board to pen the script. The project is said to be a "period piece set during World War II."
Now, Nexus Point News has shared a very interesting update.

Motor City: Alan Ritchson is out for vengeance in an upcoming action thriller from Timur Bekmambetov
Alan Ritchson is on his way to becoming the next big action star. The muscular actor has already made a name for himself, bringing Lee Child’s Jack Reacher character to life in Amazon’s Reacher. Replicas, directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff, stars Keanu Reeves as a scientist who, in the midst of bringing consciousness to A.I., loses his wife and three kids in a tragic car accident that results in an obsession to collide his personal life with his work and be reunited with the family he lost. The concept is engaging but the execution in Replicas is sadly incredibly poor with a flat narrative.
The screenplay from writers Stephen Hamel and Chad St. John is condensed to trope after trope and only the final scene leaves any form of intrigue, but it comes far too late with lacklustre uneventful proceedings before. The plot itself is mildly interesting with emotionally compelling rhythm and...

There seems to be no downside to Bryan Cranston and Kevin Hart’s comedy-drama “The Upside.”
The Stx Films pic is on its way to becoming the entertainment company’s first No. 1 debut with an estimated $19.5 million from 3,080 North American sites, knocking Warner Bros.’ “Aquaman” into the second place slot. Stx Films’ previous biggest debut was 2016’s “Bad Moms,” which landed $23.8 million for the No. 3 spot.
“The Upside” took in $6.95 million on Friday and is looking at a weekend estimate nearly double what the film had initially projected, which may be due to the film’s recutting in order to land a PG-13 rating as opposed to its original R. Stx Films reached a distribution deal with Lantern Entertainment, which formed out of the Weinstein Company’s remaining assets, to handle the pic. It was originally intended to be released last year, but was postponed after the Weinstein scandal.

Frankensteined together from the stiff corpses of a dozen smarter movies, “Replicas” is a cloning thriller so carelessly stupid that it often feels like a mad science experiment gone wrong. In fact, the film is such an awkward chimera of stolen ideas that the premise alone violates the basic laws of screenwriting, and probably also those of nature itself.
William Foster is the top neuroscientist at Puerto Rico’s Bionyne research facility, where he’s inventing a way to download a human brain into a synthetic robot body. That’s a difficult task, and it’s made a whole lot harder by William’s impatient boss (the ever-reliable John Ortiz), who gets all kinds of huffy when he learns that his star employee may not achieve the greatest technological achievement in all of history — and effectively kill God — in time for the company’s next earnings report.

Keanu Reeves' half-baked sci-fi yarn Replicas proves why cloning is bad in more ways than one.
It’s not clear how far in the future Replicas is set since it takes place in a Puerto Rico that looks (from what little we see of it) remarkably pristine and free of the ongoing aftermath of Hurricane Maria. But that’s just one of the many vagaries that plague this threadbare little film, which essentially takes place in two locations and is packed with enough pseudo-scientific nonsense to sink even cheesy old TV shows like Lost in Space or Time Tunnel.
To be clear, we’re not sticklers for absolute scientific accuracy in our science fiction, as long as it makes reasonable sense and everything else is working. But Replicas doesn’t have that luxury. Keanu Reeves stars as William Foster, a brilliant scientist working for a stock biotech firm on...

How late can a thriller spring a plot twist that at least partially compensates for all the cavernous plot holes, risible dialogue, and ludicrously illogical behavior that precede it? Probably not nearly as late as the makers of “Replicas” wait before introducing a third-act reveal that brazenly acknowledges just how silly things have been up to that point. By the time director Jeffrey Nachmanoff and screenwriter Chad St. John tap the protagonist played by Keanu Reeves on the shoulder and make him painfully aware of what he’s heretofore been too blind to see, most ticket buyers will have stopped caring — or retreated to the parking lot. And it’s even more likely that home viewers will have already flipped the channel, or preemptively ejected the DVD for a quick return to the Redbox kiosk.

Here is the first trailer for Replicas, starring Keanu Reeves as a daring synthetic biologist who loses his family in a car crash and makes a radical move. Entertainment Studios has set a January 11 wide release for Replicas, the Keanu Reeves movie it snapped up at the 2017 Toronto Film Festival for $4M.
On that weekend next year, Replicas will come in contact with Stx/Lantern Capital’s The Upside, Focus Features’ wide break of its young Ruth Bader Ginsburg movie On the Basis of Sex and Sony’s A Dog’s Way Home from director Charles Martin Smith.
Directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff and also starring Alice Eve, Thomas Middleditch and John Ortiz, Replicas follows neuroscientist William Foster (Reeves), an expert on re-creating the human brain for what he thinks is Alzheimer’s research. He alters his research to replicate his family after they’re killed in a car accident. The script was written by Stephen Hamel and Chad St. John, and Reeves produced the film with Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Hamel, Mark Gao, and Luis Riefkohl.

It seems like a long time since Peppermint star Jennifer Garner has kicked some major butt when we last saw her on the small screen in creator J.J. Abrams's spy series Alias. In fact, Garner is no stranger to action-oriented butt-kicking on the big screen either (remember her feisty assassin in the frenetic yet forgettable 2005 superhero bomb Elektra?). Now Garner is back in raw form looking to bang heads in the name of retaliation courtesy of director Pierre Morel's toothless revenge thriller Peppermint. Morel and screenwriter Chad St. John ("London Has Fallen") look to breathe some lurid, excitable life into this cockeyed confection of furious feminine-driven strife. Garner is such an adventurous actress. Her range in various genres, for the most part, is considered reasonable and resilient. Whether it...

Chicago – When a revenge film gets a bit stale, as they tend to do, the best way to pass the time is to start counting how many people are indiscriminately killed. “Peppermint,” which has the former “Alias” star Jennifer Garner going back to an action mode, had 36 (give or take) quality kills, with the last one taking the longest between executions.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
Garner is actually not that bad in the film, she is game, but the script lets her down and the scenario seemed easier to settle than what was on screen. The director of the film is Pierre Morel, who did the first “Taken” with Liam Neeson in 2008. He hasn’t learned anything new on this revenge spin, and the story also contains many stereotypes having to do with a vague drug cartel. In a sense, it’s a revenge fantasy in Trump’s world, as the white woman...

“The Nun” is heading for a scary-good opening weekend, with an estimated $50 million from 3,876 domestic sites.
The Warner Bros. gothic horror flick earned $20.2 million from 60 international markets Friday, bringing its overseas cume to $32.1 million. Should the opening estimate hold, “The Nun” will mark the “Conjuring” universe’s best debut.
Earlier estimates had placed “The Nun” in a lower range between $36 million and $45 million. 2013’s “The Conjuring” had previously held the best North American opening of the franchise with $41.9 million, eventually accumulating $137 million domestically.
Taissa Farmiga stars in the “Conjuring 2” spin-off as a young novitiate who is sent to Romania in 1952 along with a priest (Demián Bichir) to investigate the mysterious suicide of a nun at a convent. Corin Hardy directed the film from Gary Dauberman’s script. “The Nun” has earned mixed reviews, with praise for its atmosphere and performances but criticism for its reliance on jump scares. It’s...

Since 1974, there have been dozens of riffs on “Death Wish” featuring men driven to violent acts of vengeance (including a tepid remake earlier this year), so there’s no reason there shouldn’t be one about a woman. But “Peppermint” is in such a hurry to deliver the payoff of watching an aggrieved mother exact her revenge on the drug lord who killed her husband and daughter that it completely ignores the much bigger and more interesting story of exactly how she prepared for that showdown.
The formidable Jennifer Garner has already shouldered her fair share of badass characters, so the toughness required of her character here is entirely believable. But a script that seems to have been assembled by algorithm, plus routine direction by “Taken” helmer Pierre Morel, hobbles what might have been a moderately rousing (if in no way original) transformation story.

“Alias,” the J.J. Abrams spy drama that made Jennifer Garner a household name, went off the air more than a decade ago. In that time, Garner has played a 13-year-old trapped in an adult body (“13 Going on 30”), an AIDS doctor (“Dallas Buyers Club”), and the mom of the first gay teenager to get major studio treatment. Still, there is nothing Garner does better than kick serious ass. The new action flick “Peppermint” is a rare return to form for Garner, who doles out her vigilante justice with effortless charm. Unfortunately, that’s about the only reason to see “Peppermint.”

As the summer movie season officially came to a close, a pair of darker titles are hoping to terrorize the domestic box office this weekend.
Estimates show “The Nun,” the fifth installment in “The Conjuring” series, launching with $36 million to $45 million when it debuts in over 2,850 locations. Some tracking suggests that’s too modest, and the film could make well over $50 million during its opening weekend. That would be a monstrously good start considering the low price tag typically attached to horror flicks. Buzz already seems strong as “The Nun” is currently outpacing all previous “Conjuring” movies combined in Fandango’s presales, the ticketing service reported on Wednesday. According to Fandango, it is also dominating previous horror hits “Get Out” and “A Quiet Place” in advanced sales at the same point in those film’s sales cycles.

Peppermint is an action thriller which tells the story of young mother Riley North (Garner) who awakens from a coma after her husband and daughter are killed in a brutal attack on the family. “Corrupt judges, dirty cops. What do I want? I want justice.” So says the grieving mom-turned-urban guerrilla played by Jennifer Garner at the start of this first trailer for Peppermint, setting up the mayhem that comes when an evil cartel picks the wrong mother to victimize.
Directed by Pierre Morel (Taken) from a script by Chad St. John, Peppermint follows Garner’s Riley North, whose husband and daughter are killed in what appears to be a drive-by shooting at a carnival. Even after Riley identifies three of the killers – those gang tattoos aren’t exactly subtle – the crooked system of cops and judges on the take sets the murderers free.
What’s a mom to do, but train for five years and seek revenge? Soon enough, there are cartel killers hanging from ferris wheels, with Garner’s avenging angle of death getting full social media support and no small amount...

Jennifer Garner may be lacing up her ass-kicking boots up once again, that's because she is in talks to star in the revenge thriller Peppermint. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the actress is in the running for the lead role in the movie, which will be directed by Pierre Morel. Morel is known for Taken, the action movie that relaunched Liam Neeson's career. Peppermint in many ways sounds a lot like to Taken:
The revenge thriller centers on a young mother who, after her husband and daughter are murdered, finds herself with nothing to lose. Ten years later, she vows to take from her rivals the very life they stole from her, targeting everyone from those who pulled the trigger to the lawyers and cops who let them get away with the crimes.

A couple years ago, John Wick surprised audiences when it hit theaters. This was a film that had its trailer released a mere month before its theatrical debut. This would normally spell bad news, but that wasn’t the case for John Wick. Instead, audiences were treated to a lean, mean action flick with just enough plot and story keep things going, but not too much that it slowed down the pacing.
Of course, with the film and its sequel doing so well, it was only a matter of time before we’d get more similar films. This latest “copycat” (I put it in quotations because this is not necessarily a bad thing) comes from Taken director Pierre Morel, and is called Peppermint.
THR describes the film as:

Pierre Morel, the director of Taken, is set to direct a female action film. THR reports the script for the film is being written by Chad St. John, who also wrote the action film London Has Fallen. The film, titled Peppermint, is about a young mother who seeks revenge on the people who took her life from her.
No word on who is set to play the lead, but the film is being pitched as a "female John Wick" which sounds like something everyone would get behind. It seems like we are going to be getting a lot of female action films in the near future. Whether or not it lives up to that title remains to be seen. ...

Replicas, a sci-fi thriller, stars Keanu Reeves as a neuroscientist who attempts to clone his dead family.
Replicas, a philosophically metaphysical science fiction technological thriller starring Keanu Reeves (the John Wick films), Alice Eve (Iron Fist) and Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), looked like an intriguing genre offering when it first blipped the industry radar.
