At the 2014 New York Film Festival premiere of “Gone Girl,” Twentieth Century Fox Film Chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos seemed visibly relieved to have Stacey Snider finally join the studio, after months of speculation that this capable executive would join him from DreamWorks. Now, almost two years later —and after a 25-year career at Fox —the studio has confirmed that Gianopulos’ contract will not be renewed after it expires on June 30, 2017, when he will graduate “upstairs” into an executive role at parent company 21st Century Fox.
This follows a transition for Snider that has not been smooth. While the veteran exec has the right mix of skills to run a studio (and did so at Universal with Ron Meyer), knows how to manage a team of executives, and how to develop, produce, and release movies that are smart and four-quadrant friendly, entering the Fox landscape proved to be a challenge.

According to a recent New York Post article, the alleged Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice fallout is continuing behind the scenes at Warner Brothers. The rumor suggests that Greg Silverman, the WB production chief and Sue Kroll, the president of worldwide marketing and distribution, are up on the chopping block. This comes after the news of Charles Roven's producing future DC Comics movies to be in question, Ben Affleck being promoted to executive producer on Justice League (where he stars as Batman, and is directed by Zack Snyder) and Geoff Johns and Jon Berg being promoted to co-heads of DC Films. Warner Brother's next superhero movie, Suicide Squad, will release in theaters August 5, 2016. No doubt, Warner Brothers is hoping that movie will be much more critically and financially successful. Especially as they are trying to establish the DC Cinematic Universe to rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the X-Men universe.

In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Zack Snyder opened up a bit about the WB/DC's philosophy when it comes to the tone of its upcoming slate of films. Much has been made about there being some sort of mandate that the film's all be sort of serious, dark, and gritty. When asked about this, Snyder says that there is no hard and fast rule about tone at the studio.
Snyder revealed that each film, whether it be Justice League, Aquaman, Green Lantern Corps, or Cyborg, is going to be its own animal- and he even name-dropped a couple of specific examples:
"Zack Snyder: The mandate is that we try and make the best movies we can. If you're making a Flash movie with Ezra Miller, it's like millennial Flash. It's going to be a little lighter than making a World War I epic with this feminist icon like Wonder Woman.

It has been an incredibly busy day on the DC cinematic universe front with quotes flying left and right from pretty much everyone involved in this month's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" film and the future beyond that.
In regards to the latter, some big reveals have come from an EW cover story about the film and the soon to shoot two-part "Justice League" movie which begins production of its first feature in early April. First up, the magazine confirms that beyond the main trio, the three other superheroes that show up in cameos in 'Dawn of Justice' are: Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
So where's Green Lantern? Looks like he's likely not in the first and may well miss out on the second of the "Justice League" films according to producer Charles Roven:
"Every beat of the movie is not yet worked out.

Entertainment Weekly got to go behind the scenes of the DC Cinematic Universe, and was able to get the lowdown on why we haven't heard any mention of Green Lantern recently. Simply put, it's going to be a while before we see him on screen again.
Here's what producer Greg Silverman had to say:
"[Green Lantern] is an incredible character. He’s actually multiple incredible characters. There’s real opportunity there. We didn’t do a great job on that first Green Lantern movie. This is a character who deserves to be treated in the same way that Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman are being treated now, which is with great reverence. I guess I can say to the Green Lantern fans: if they can be patient with us, I think they’ll be really happy.”

Marvel's directors - who we should note have enjoyed a lot of success - seem to work within a framework established by studio boss Kevin Feige. It's little secret that Feige is a big part of the creative process at the studio, although that doesn't mean that directors haven't had their voice. Ever since it was announced, the DC Cinematic Universe has been heavily criticized and scrutinized by fans across the internet. They’ve been heavily critical of every single casting decision, costume reveal, and trade report regarding which screenwriters and directors are working on the various projects. Then of course there’s the infamous rumor that states that there will be no humor in the Dccu whatsoever, which is still used as ammunition against the studio as it pushes forward with its ambitious upcoming ten-film slate.
A recent report shed some light on the “filmmaker-driven” creator strategy that Warner Brothers is taking with the Dccu – a direct contrast to Marvel’s approach, which puts the shared universe itself above individual projects and differentiating creative visions. Even that report was met with heaps of criticism from the fan community, despite the fact that very few people actually know what’s going on behind closed doors.

Well now we know what's in store for James Wan. Warner Bros has officially confirmed that James Wan will be directing the Aquaman movie based on the DC Comics superhero, with Jason Momoa already set to play the aquatic superhero (since he's supposed to potentially appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). Wan just came off of directing Furious 7, which is setting some epic box office records, and has also been confirmed for the Robotech movie (via THR). "The Aquaman film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James's span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material," Warner Bros' Greg Silverman commented on the news. The announcement also included this rather brief and basic plot synopsis for the Aquaman movie: An icon for over 70 years, Aquaman is the King of the Seven Seas.

Set for release in 2018, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa in the titular role and is part of DC’s upcoming slate of films that will attempt to kick off their cinematic universe.

Many people see Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara as the key man behind the studios hotly anticipated DC Cinematic Universe, and while that may be true, another executive who will play a vital role over the coming years will be Greg Silverman. WB's President of Creative Development & Worldwide Production recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about the studio's vision for their upcoming superhero properties. Unsuprisingly, one of the first things he was asked about was how DC planned on differentiating their universe from their cross-company rivals at Marvel: "We have a great strategy for the DC films, which is to take these beloved characters and put them in the hands of master filmmakers and make sure they all coordinate with each other. You'll see the difference when you see Batman v. Superman, Suicide Squad, Justice League and all the things that we are working on." Silverman then...

Exclusive Q&A: It arrived too late to factor in guild and critics awards, but the Clint Eastwood-directed American Sniper has established such a connection with American movie audiences that its dark horse chances of upsetting the Oscar status quo cannot be ignored. It passed Saving Private Ryan to become the highest domestic grossing war movie ever; it even shot past the U.S. gross of Bradley Cooper’s previous biggest hit, The Hangover, and trails only The Passion Of The Christ for biggest-ever R-rated domestic grosser. This, for a hard R film about the wartime exploits and horrors faced by the most dangerous sniper in U.S. military history, and the price paid by Chris Kyle, wife Taya, and his fellow soldiers tasked with door to door searches in Sadr City when it was the most dangerous place in Iraq.

While promoting her new movie, Jennifer Lopez spoke to E! Online and was asked whether she has any interest in playing a superhero in either a DC or Marvel movie. "That would be awesome. I don't know why somebody hasn't thought about that yet," she replied, added that Warner Bros President should reach out to her for a role. "Greg Silverman . I need to play a superhero!" It's not clear which superhero Lopez would be perfect to play, but it's likely that we'll never see her appearing on screen with Batman, due to the past relationship between the actress and Ben Affleck.

She's got the muscle. She's got the moves. And we've already seen her kick some ass on the big screen. Isn't it time Jennifer Lopez plays a superhero? "That would be awesome," J.Lo told me while promoting her new thriller, The Boy Next Door. "I don't know why somebody hasn't thought about that yet." Maybe she already has one in mind. She jokingly called out to the president of Warner Bros, the studio behind the Batman and Superman franchises. "Greg Silverman—I need to play a superhero!" she playfully shouted. Until then, we do get to see Lopez in The Boy Next Door (in theaters on Jan. 23). In what's sure to become a hit guilty pleasure, she...

Now it’s getting busy. Awards season, that is. Judging from the frantic calls trying to schedule interviews and other things as various voting deadlines loom, I would say we are in the thick of it. Golden Globe nomination ballots are due back Monday. SAG nominating ballots go out now, and both key precursor verdicts will be announced next week along with AFI’s annual 10 best list coming out on Monday morning. La Film Critics will be announcing their picks on Sunday, then its the nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association’s Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, which wound up predicting every eventual 2013 Oscar winner except Makeup and Foreign Film. There are junkets galore and tons of events going on in NYC this week, and here on the West Coast the activity is no less crazy, with several contenders trying to make any impression they can on voters — particularly Oscar...
