Romulo Alejandro is a first generation Filipino American, born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. He began directing films while a student at the University of Virginia, studying under renowned experimental filmmaker Kevin Jerome Everson. As a student, his science fiction film Roskosmos won both the Best Drama and Best Short Film Awards at the Ivy Film Festival (2007).
He is a 2022 Film Independent Episodic Directing Fellow and a 2009 Film Independent Project:involve fellow. His short films Roskosmos, Black Dog, and Security have been included in New Filmmakers LA (2015), The Emerson LA Film Festival (2015), The P:I Showcase (2009 and 2015), LA Shorts Fest (2014), and the NYC Indie Film Fest (2014). In 2015, he directed several comedy digital shorts for the comedy troupe "We're Still Friends." After a several year hiatus from directing to focus on editing, he recently directed two music video performances of "Give My Life for You" and "Built to Stay" for Filipino American singer songwriter, Matthew Santos in June 2022.
In addition, Rom has had a 10-year career as an editor, working in experimental film with Akosua Adoma Owusu, documentaries with Laura Gabbert, animation with Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, and trailers for Netflix's internal agency, Creative Studio.
