Mathagam begins with the scene of Vaidegi trying to establish some physical intimacy between her and her husband, Ashwath, who is a cop. They’ve just had a daughter, and Ashwath has started to seem more and more like a distant father and husband. Vaidegi keeps mentioning that she is struggling to take care of her daughter. Ashwath’s conduct can’t be said to be typical male behavior, but there are men like him who simply refuse to understand the pain their wives go through pre- and post-pregnancy.

Tamil commercial films are always at it to bring decent stories coupled with action-packed masala. The emotions sometimes run so high that one gets carried away by them as well. But what happens when there is only emotion and action, and the rest of the film does not make any sense at all? Thiruvin Kural is one such film. Written and directed by Harish Prabhu, the movie is about a mute man who goes through turbulent times when his father is admitted to the hospital. Will his father get out of it alive?

Thiruvin Kural begins with a teenage girl going back home all alone, as it is about to start raining. There are no streetlights, and the girl is in a hurry to reach home. As the rain starts pouring, she notices that she is surrounded by goons with weapons of various kinds who are there to kill her.

Review If the protagonist Thiru is leading a rebellion against privatisation of the public sector and the damages that corporates wreak, the film doesn’t do a particularly impactful job of getting us to feel strongly about it. The makers of director Thiru’s upcoming Telugu web series ‘Jhansi’ have now released the character poster of actor Raj Arjun, who plays villain ‘Caleb’ in the series. The series is to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar from October 27.

Raj Arjun, who is known for his work in films like ‘Secret Superstar’, ‘Dear Comrade’ and ‘Thalaivi’, says: “Yes, the poster is very intriguing. Caleb is a very intense but calm, composed, natural and realistic person who does things on his own terms and conditions.

It’s an ordinary food delivery boy’s story of friendship and love without major dramatic upheavals. His name – Thiruchitrambalam – is a mouthful but his nickname Pazham (fruit) is no better. In local parlance, a ‘pazham’ is someone who is a wuss, and Thiru wears the label with resignation. So, does ‘pazham’ become a ‘puli’ (tiger) in the end? Does he prove his masculinity and peel off the unflattering name once and for all? This isn’t that kind of film, and I’m relieved that it isn’t.

Death The ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ director who was hospitalised after a cardiac arrest passed away on Thursday night.Malayalam cinema mourned the death of writer-director Kr Sachidanandan, fondly known as Sachy, on Thursday. The 48-year-old, who last directed 2020’s pre-lockdown highest-grossing film Ayyappanum Koshiyum, passed away in Thrissur’s Jubilee Mission Hospital, where he was brought in on Tuesday after suffering a massive cardiac arrest. He was treated in the critical care unit of the hospital and placed on ventilator support. Condoling his demise, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, “Sachy was a notable director and screenplay writer in Malayalam cinema. He is credited with several hit films. His untimely demise has resulted in the loss of a talented artist for Malayalam cinema.” Producer Supriya Menon Prithviraj, whose husband Prithviraj has acted in several of Sachy’s films, including Ayyappanum Koshiyum, which was their last collaboration, wrote a moving message of their association.

While the title suggested that the film would be a comedy entertainer, the trailer has darker shades. The film, directed by Thiru, is expected to release on May 25. The trailer opens with Gautham Karthik introducing himself as Raghav, a professional boxer. Gautham, who is yet to make a mark in the Tamil film industry (Rangoon remains his only critically acclaimed hit), appears to have trained hard for this film. Raghav then goes on to add that his father, played by his real life dad, Karthik, is more important to him than even boxing. Karthik, who plays the title role of Mr Chandramouli, is characterised as a "cool" older man - in the time-honored and cringey fashion of having white women swoon around him (just why?). Comedian Sathish is also part of the cast and he asks Raghav, "Your dad's name is Chandramouli, why are you giving Rajamouli-level buildup?" The first film to release after the strike was Karthik Subbaraj's Mercury, which came on April 20, a week after its outside Tamil Nadu release. This weekend, Kaala was originally supposed to clash at the Tamil Nadu box-office with Avengers Infinity War. However, the film has been pushed to June 7. Instead, Sai Pallavi's Diya, a horror film directed by Al Vijay, will release on April 27. The film is also releasing in Telugu as Kanam. The Arvind Swami and Amala Paul starrer Bhaskar Oru Rascal was also supposed to release on April 27. The film has been delayed by several months. It was meant to be a Pongal release. However, with Suriya's Thaana Serndha Kootttam and Vikram's Sketch taking up most screens, the film had to be pushed. The new release date we hear is May 11. Nadigayar Thilagam, the biopic on actor Savitri, will release on May 9 as scheduled. The film stars Keerthy Suresh in the lead role and has a galaxy of stars as part of the cast - Dulquer Salmaan, Samantha, Vijay Deverakonda, Shalini Pandey, Naga Chaitanya and others. The film will release in Telugu as Mahanati. The bilingual has been directed by Nag Ashwin. There were rumours that Vishal's Irumbuthirai, which was supposed to release in March, would hit the screens on May 11. However, Vishal issued a clarification that this was a miscommunication and that the film does not have a release date as yet. Directed by Ps Mithran, the film also stars Samantha and Arjun Sarja. Mr Chandramouli, which stars Karthik, son Gautham Karthik, Regina Cassandra, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar will release on May 25, producer G Dhananjayan has said. The film is an action comedy directed by Thiru and the title is from the famous scene in Mouna Ragam where Manohar (Karthik) calls out to Divya's (Revathi) father, Chandramouli when they are at a hotel together. Other than Kaala, which will release on June 7, Vikram's Saamy Square, is also expected to have a June release. The date currently is June 14. The film is a sequel to the 2003 film Saamy which starred Vikram and Trisha in lead roles. Although Trisha was signed to do the sequel, she walked out of the film citing creative differences. Keerthy Suresh plays the lead opposite Vikram. Other films which are ready for release but need dates include Imaikka Nodigal, Tik Tik Tik, Pariyerum Perumal, Golisoda 2, and Kee.

Her last film release was Awe, a heroine-centric film that has been directed by Prashanth Varma. In the film, she shared the screen space with Kajal Agarwal and Nithya Menen in the film and won good reviews for her performance in it. Made on a budget of Rs. 60 lakhs, the film has collected around Rs. 10 crores at the box office, according to reports from the trade circles. In Thiru's "Naan Sigappu Manithan" (Nsm), neither do you have a hero to cheer for (because he's asleep mostly as he suffers from a rare sleep disorder) nor a typical villain character. You don't have a comedian and comedy tracks to keep you entertained. You have a second heroine but she doesn't the play the hero's love interest. Yet what is it that makes this commercial Tamil outing a laudable effort?

Chennai, Nov 1: Actor Vishal Krishna Reddy has teamed up with Utv Motion Pictures to co-produce upcoming Tamil romantic action-thriller "Naan Sigappu Manithan", in which he also plays the title role. The film is slated to go on floors third week of November.

Vishal recently turned producer with Tamil rural drama "Pandiya Naadu", which is releasing Saturday.

"Naan Sigappu Manithan" will be helmed by Thiru, who had recently worked with Vishal in a film titled "Samar" in the same language.

"We are impressed with Thiru's storytelling and are confident he will deliver an outstanding film with Vishal. Though.

Muscat-born former Miss India Sarah Jane Dias is in a frank mood about her ambitions to make it to Bollywood as her ultimate target in her acting career. "Why wouldn't I want to take up projects in Bollywood?" she asks, "I plan to move to Tollywood as well, should the right opportunity present itself."

Currently, however, she is making her closely-watched debut in Kollywood alongside two other Bollywood starlets, Tanushree Dutta and Neetu Chandra.
