As people begin to assess what they lost in the Los Angeles wildfires, producer Amanda Rohlke and production designer and art director Amelia Steely are encouraging industry colleagues to share images with property owners to help with insurance claims and offer sentimental value.
The idea came to Rohlke and Steely on Monday when they were texting with a friend whose family lost their house in the Palisades. Rohlke suddenly remembered she had shot a film at the house in 2013 and that the crew took lots of photos. She contacted the art department from the shoot to try to find the photos, and when Rohlke updated her friends, Steely realized she too had photos from various locations.
“It occurred to me, wow, there are all these resources that homeowners may not know about,” Steely said. “Often the homeowner’s absent and doesn’t know that somebody has taken hundreds of photos of their home.

Apple Films has landed the feature doc Deaf President Now! from Deaf actor, filmmaker, and advocate Nyle Dimarco and Oscar-winning documentarian Davis Guggenheim.
The feature tells the story of the 1988 protests at Gallaudet University, the storied university for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students, that led to the installment of the school’s first Deaf president, Dr. I. King Jordan.
The doc features exclusive interviews with Jordan, as well as the “Gallaudet Four” — Jerry Covell, Bridgetta Bourne-Firl, Tim Rarus and Greg Hlibok, who took leadership positions during the protests. Deaf President Now! also incorporates an experimental narrative approach — called “Deaf Point Of View” — using impressionistic visual photography and intricate sound design that is meant to thrust the audience into the Deaf experience.
“For far too long, the disabilities stories that have shaped the United States have been conspicuously absent from the history we tell,” said Dimarco. “This film not only...

The trailer for the new documentary from Netflix Downfall: The Case Against Boeing has just been released. The film, directed by Rory Kennedy, will be released on Netflix and in select theaters on February 28, 2022.
In the chilling documentary Downfall: The Case Against Boeing, Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Rory Kennedy uncovers the negligence and corporate greed that led to two Boeing Max 737 plane crashes within the span of just five months. Guided by aviation experts, news journalists, former Boeing employees, the United States Congress, and the families of victims, the film reveals a culture of reckless cost-cutting and concealment at the once-venerated company. A fierce indictment of Wall Street’s corrupting influence, Downfall exposes larger questions about the perils of America’s corporate ethos and the staggering human cost.
