In 2010, Darlene's first feature film, "Senorita" competed at the prestigious Festival del Film Locarno. Her second feature, "Aparisyon" had its international premiere at the Busan International Film Festival, won the NETPAC Award in Hawaii, Audience Choice in France. . Last June 2017, the Museum of Modern Art (NYC) curated "Aparisyon" to be among 18 Filipino films that represent the Third Golden Age of Philippine Cinema.
She also produced "The Dog Show", about an impoverished dog whisperer, which premiered at the Montreal World Film Festival. Her first documentary, "The Landscape Within" made its world debut at the Singapore International Film Festival in 2015 and went on to win Best Film at the Chicago Reeling International Film Festival and Best Cinematography at the Byron Bay Film Festival in Australia.
Her psychological horror, "Bliss" debuted at the Osaka Asian Film Festival and won the Yakushi Pearl Award for Best Performance. Darlene commercially released her urban romance, "Kung Paano Siya Nawala" last November 2018. The film was hailed by Philippine critics as one of the top Filipino films of 2018 and became the #1 movie in Netflix Philippines when it debuted in 2020.
Her short film, "Basurero" starring Filipino matinee idol Jericho Rosales competed in Busan, Tampere, Fribourg including the San Francisco International Film Festival and the 36th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.
Her first American indie film, "Lingua Franca" premiered at the Venice International Film Festival (Venice Days Section), had a successful theatrical release in France and got picked up by Ava Duvernay's company, Array for North American distribution. It premiered in Netflix U.S. and Canada to much acclaim.
