Diego Freitas is a Brazilian director, screenwriter and producer. Graduated in communication, Diego is a self-taught director that has been working in TV and film since his teens. In 2016, He wrote and directed the award-winning short thriller film "Salt", present in many major Brazilian film festivals, such as the Gramado Film Festival and was a winner of CinePE. In 2018, debuted his first feature film as a director/screenwriter with the psychological thriller "My Dead Ones", that had its premiere at the Montreal Film Festival, in addition to being chosen by SESC as one of the best Brazilian films of the year. In 2019, "Way Back Home", starring Brazilian acting legend Lima Duarte, represented the country at the Vancouver International Festival, Drama Festival in Greece and at the Havana International Festival in Cuba, winning more than 20 awards, such as Cine Ceará for best director. The feature "Knitting" from 2021, produced and edited by Diego, was awarded best film by public choice at the Gramado Film Festival. In 2022, "Beyond the Universe", a drama written and directed by Diego, produced by Netflix, was the most watched film on the platform and stayed on the top 10 in 43 countries, being the third non-English spoken most watched film in the world, with over 50 million hours of views in its first month of release. In 2023 Diego is directing two new features: "Take 5 cards" a dramatic comedy with Brazilian star Lilia Cabral and a new Netflix original thriller with actors Giovanna Lancellotti and Leandro Lima. Today, Diego is one of the most requested directors in Brazil.
