Jocelyn Clarke is a dramaturg for stage and screen. He was senior dramaturg at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., theatre advisor to the Arts Council of Ireland, and the Commissioning and Literary manager of the Abbey, Ireland's national theatre. He is a writer/supervising producer on Katori Hall's acclaimed TV series P-Valley - he shared an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2023. He is the executive story editor of the BBC/RTE TV series Young Offenders - Season 4 started at the end of May 2024.
Clarke's career as a dramaturg is marked by a myriad of collaborations. He has had the privilege of working with a wide range of writers, including Katori Hall, Taylor Mac, Lydia Diamond, Abhishek Majumdar, Eduardo Machado, Ayad Akhtar, Lisa Kron, Tazewell Thompson, Carl Hancock Rux, Kenneth Lin, Nathan Alan Davis, Mary Kathryn Nagle, Raphael Khouri, Carl Hancock Rux, Aaron Posner, Abhishek Majumdar, Craig Lucas, Rachel Chavkin, Qui Nguyen, Jacqueline Lawton, Samuel D. Hunter, Tanya Saracho, Karen Zacarias, and Laurie Anderson.
Clarke has written several plays for Anne Bogart and the SITI Company, including Bob, Room, Score, Chess Match No. 5, and Trojan Women. He has also worked as a dramaturg and adapter on several productions by The Blue Raincoat Theatre in Sligo, including Alice in Wonderland, The Third Policeman, Shackleton, and The Last Pearl.
Last year saw the debut of Four Portraits, his new opera with Pulitzer Prize- winning composer Caroline Shaw, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in April. His play Eastland was produced by the Collective Theatre and directed by Anne Bogart in Dublin in September 2023 - she also directed his new adaptation of Elizabeth Swados' musical The Beautiful Lady in New York earlier in May. He is directing the Collective Theatre's world premiere of Raphael Khouri's new play It Was Paradise, Unfortunately in Dublin in September 2024.
