Benjamin Woodgates is one of the UK's most sought-after young composers. He has written extensively for screen, stage, and the concert hall: his debut film score to Euros Lyn's Dream Horse received critical acclaim following its premiere at Sundance in 2020, and he has composed original music for theatre, installation, video games and high-profile advertising campaigns. His commissioned works include a setting of the Benedicite for the Choir of St Paul's Cathedral, two short orchestral works for the WDR Funkhausorchester, and a work based on French folk song for 70-bell carillon that is performed daily throughout the summer at Puy du Fou, France. He has created music for campaigns by brands including Google, Honda, Carlsberg, Amstel, Milka & Waitrose; for 2015 videogame Wander and for short films including Francis Annan's The Longest Drive.
Benjamin is also one of the UK's most sought-after arrangers. He has orchestrated music for a wide range of films and TV programmes including Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Victoria (ITV) and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance (Netflix), and adapted and arranged Jonny Greenwood's score to Phantom Thread for the film's UK premiere with the London Contemporary Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall in 2018. He created a number of new arrangements for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and has composed vocal and orchestral arrangements for the Boston Pops Orchestra, The Philharmonia Orchestra, The Swingle Singers, Proms in the Park, Opera North, Bethesda Games Studios' concerts at the London Palladium and Hammersmith Apollo, Decca Record's forthcoming Bond 25 album, and for the opening of Google's I/O developer conference in 2019. He has collaborated with and arranged music for a number of solo artists including Abel Selaocoe and Martin Green, with whom he collaborated to create the Ivor Novello Award-winning work Aeons in 2018.
Benjamin is an experienced conductor and musical director, working with both amateur and professional musicians. He is the Musical Director and Arranger for Terence Davies' forthcoming feature, Benediction, and has conducted the soundtracks to Violation, Madeleine Sims-Fewer's acclaimed 2020 horror film, and Astrologaster, an award-winning computer game set in Elizabethan England. He has also directed ensembles including the West End cast of The Phantom of the Opera, the Hallé Youth Choir, Oxford University's Out Of The Blue and the Choir of Corpus Christi College, Oxford.
