Shepka Productions and Flickering Myth have officially announced the upcoming UK release of their gothic horror feature The Baby in the Basket, which will arrive on Digital and DVD in on February 17th 2025 from High Fliers Films.

A baby in a basket is left on the steps of an isolated monastery on a Scottish island. The nuns take it in, planning to care for it until a storm passes. Soon though, strange and unexplained events begin to happen at the convent.

The Baby in the Basket has been rated 18 by the British Board of Film Classification for “strong sex and disturbing scenes.”

In May, we told you about a new gothic horror film, The Baby In The Basket, heading our way. In that story, we promised to bring you news of the film’s release and we can finally make good on that promise.

The Baby In The Basket is heading to DVD and Digital in the UK on 17th February 2025 from High Fliers Films.

“We’re looking forward to bringing The Baby in the Basket to UK audiences and hope that physical media fans enjoy our slow burn atmospheric horror movie on DVD,” director Nathan Shepka commented on the news.

Exclusive: The Castaic Studios in Santa Clarita, north of LA, is in the final stages of being sold to producer and filmmaker Carl Jackson of Carl Jackson Studios, we understand.

The lot, encompassing 70,000 square feet of production space, offers production and post-production facilities, including six sound stages, two screening rooms, editing bays, production offices, green rooms and spaces for wardrobe and makeup. There is also an 80-acre backlot with canyons, trails, and outdoor filming locations.

Financial details of the transaction are not being disclosed, though Jackson told us the property was appraised at $65M by real estate firm Justmann & Associates in September 2023.

The acquisition from Castaic Studios LLC was financed by Carl Jackson Entertainment, LLC, a Texas corporation, with the studio’s intended remodeling due to be funded by Texas outfit Michael Land & Associates.

Going forward, the studio will house Carl Jackson Studios productions as well as third party shoots.

The 25th edition of Pigeon Shrine FrightFest is set to deliver an exhilarating blend of horror and fantasy films, with the festival moving to a new venue, the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. Running from Thursday, 22 August to Monday, 26 August, the event will take over all seven screens at the venue, promising an unforgettable experience for horror enthusiasts.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey will be released on Blu-ray on April 9 via Scream Factory. Capitalizing on the public domain status of A.A. Milne’s beloved children’s character, the film grossed $5.2 million worldwide on a budget of less than $100,000.

The state of horror in 2023 is strong. Familiar names such as Brandon Cronenberg and Eli Roth returned with "Infinity Pool" and "Thanksgiving" and so did "Re-Animator" screenwriter Dennis Paoli, writer of "Suitable Flesh," his first realized feature script in over 20 years. In the blissful infancy of YouTube back in 2006, one of the medium's earliest viral sensations was a video called "Scary Mary." YouTube creator Christopher Rule edited his own trailer for "Mary Poppins," Disney's 1964 musical classic. Instead of depicting the movie's family-friendly fantasy, though, Rule cut "Scary Mary" as a horror film. The result was surprisingly convincing, and posited an intriguing, funny, and somewhat disturbing thesis: With a change in perspective, beloved fictional characters can instantly switch from kind to creepy.

The team behind "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey" — a real movie in the Year of Our Lord, 2023 — embraced this spirit to imagine the universally adored Pooh Bear of literature and film as a serial killer. Friends will gather to take revenge in the upcoming Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, a sequel to this year’s viral slasher movie that scared up $6 million at the box office.

Rhys Frake-Waterfield is back to direct the Pooh-based slasher sequel, and THR reports this week that filming is set to begin on the brand new continuation this coming Fall.

In fact, Blood and Honey 2 has already scored several international sales deals, including in Mexico, Germany, Italy, France, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and India.

ITN will release the sequel here in the United States. THR notes, “The production is expected to include a substantially larger budget than its predecessor film.”

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey successfully grossed $760,954 at its one-night-only screening on February 15, before expanding to theaters nationwide and grossing $2 million at the U.S. box office. When news broke that a horror film called Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey would premiere in 2023, people certainly had mixed reactions. Whether you loved or hated the idea from the get-go, you probably had the same question as everyone else: How could they get away with creating a horror version of Winnie the Pooh without committing copyright violations?

And now it’s here, the latest attempt to turn childhood favourites like The Banana Splits, The Grinch, and even Heidi into blood-soaked nightmares. And with Pooh being far and away the most popular it’s also been the most hyped and anticipated, even the fact Scott Jeffrey was producing it couldn’t keep me from wanting to see it. And now it’s here and all I can say is “Oh bother!”

Before the lights dimmed at my screening of "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey," a fellow moviegoer remarked, "I hope this is terrible. I hope afterward I feel ridiculous about buying a ticket for this." I love that comment because it encapsulates the strange way audiences seem to approach the film. You kind of want it to be bad, partially because you know what you're getting yourself into. Absolutely no one enters a horror film that stars Pooh Bear expecting the next great cinema masterpiece, so the value is in the sheer bizarre nature of the concept.

"Blood and Honey" is funny when it wants to be, but it's just as often humorous when the audience can't quite tell whether a scene is supposed to play for laughs or not. Furthermore, while many sequences are outlandishly comical, it's surprising the story leans...

On January 1, 2022, A.A. Milne's gentle 1926 children's novel "Winnie-the-Pooh" finally entered the public domain. Previously, Disney owned the rights to the character, having owned them since 1966, and for many, Disney's rendition of the little stuffed teddy bear had become the character's pop culture standard. Few characters in children's literature are as gentle and as guileless as Winnie-the-Pooh, and Disney's version merely amped up the saccharine sweetness. Milne's conceit is that Pooh and his stuffed animal compatriots may be imagined by their owner, a 6-year-old British boy named Christopher Robin, and their conversations are whimsically circular and not terribly deep.

Naturally, when Pooh became the property of the people, the first thing filmmaker Rhys Frake-Waterfield wanted to do was to make an ultra-violent horror movie, with everyone favorite silly ol' bear as a bloodthirsty, murderous hillbilly. The resulting film is just as stupid as one might expect.

Next week, “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” his directorial debut, will open across 1,500 screens in the U.S., followed by 1,300 in Latin America, 100 in Canada and countless more in the U.K., Japan, Australia and Benelux. Originally set for a one-night-only theatrical release, we’ve learned today that Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is now getting an expanded theatrical release from Fathom Events.

Fathom Events announced today that the long-awaited horror film will expand to nine dates in theaters starting on Wednesday, February 15 and running through Monday, February 23.

The film will also be available in more than 1,500 theaters nationwide.

“We have been overwhelmed with the enthusiastic response from the public. From top media companies ranging from Rolling Stone magazine to USA Today to TMZ to individual comments on Reddit and YouTube—the world is craving Blood and Honey, and we’re thrilled to be teaming up with Fathom to deliver Winnie-The-Pooh as never seen before,” says Stuart Alson, executive producer.
