From the team behind Flickering Myth comes the gothic horror film The Baby In The Basket. First look and more details below.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: 2024 has been a proper rollercoaster ride for horror fans. After a slow start, we’ve since been treated to the excellent Immaculate and The First Omen and the riotously fun Abigail and we’re not too far off from the release of Renny Harlin’s The Strangers: Chapter 1.
We’ve now got word of another horror film heading our way, hopefully sooner rather than later. The Baby In The Basket is directed by Nathan Shepka and Andy Crane from a script by Tom Jolliffe.

Burnt Flowers, the new film from writer/director Michael Fausti, begins with a series of scenes swiftly moving back and forth between London’s Rose Bar in 1968, Islington in 1983 and the Islington Police Station in 1992.
The last location is where Detective Franc Alban has a visitor, Alice Kyteller. She’s there to report a missing person, her husband Austin whom she last saw eight years ago in a brothel. Why has she waited so long to report him missing? “I thought he might come back”. She can’t offer any information and hasn’t so much as asked his friends about him, but she is sure that she and Detective Alban have met before.

UK indie horror icon Ayvianna Snow returns to the screen with three new films for the first quarter 2024.
Cult director Michael Fausti’s much anticipated second feature film, Burnt Flowers (premieres January 2024), sees Ayvianna Snow join fellow horror luminaries Dani Thompson and Laurence R. Harvey in this haunting and surreal Horror-Noir from one of the UK’s most original horror directors.
Burnt Flowers focuses upon a mysterious femme fatale, Alice Kyteller (Ayvianna Snow), who approaches Detective Francis Alban (Amber Doig-Thorne) to search for her missing husband. The detective’s search leads her to a 1960s serial killer, who was never caught, a violent gangster and ultimately… herself.
The film stars Ayvianna Snow in a commanding central performance in a role that recalls the shape-shifting femme fatales of classic film noir. Snow’s portrayal of Alice Kyteller leads the audience into the dark past of the 1960s criminal underworld and an obsessive,...

The state of horror in 2023 is strong. Familiar names such as Brandon Cronenberg and Eli Roth returned with "Infinity Pool" and "Thanksgiving" and so did "Re-Animator" screenwriter Dennis Paoli, writer of "Suitable Flesh," his first realized feature script in over 20 years. Old franchises returned, too, with "Evil Dead Rise" and even "Saw X" doing well critically and commercially. Less established filmmakers have also made an impression, namely Nahnatchka Khan, director of "Totally Killer," and Danish debut filmmaker Gabriel Bier Gislason, who helmed "Attachment."
But away from "M3GAN," "When Evil Lurks" and the numerous other highlights, there were still some disappointments that were lackluster, recycled, underplayed, overplayed, or in one or two cases, just underwhelming in almost every aspect of production. There is little pleasure to be had in chronicling such disappointment, but it is a service any critic must provide at one time or another. So let's dig into some...

In the blissful infancy of YouTube back in 2006, one of the medium's earliest viral sensations was a video called "Scary Mary." YouTube creator Christopher Rule edited his own trailer for "Mary Poppins," Disney's 1964 musical classic. Instead of depicting the movie's family-friendly fantasy, though, Rule cut "Scary Mary" as a horror film. The result was surprisingly convincing, and posited an intriguing, funny, and somewhat disturbing thesis: With a change in perspective, beloved fictional characters can instantly switch from kind to creepy.
The team behind "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey" — a real movie in the Year of Our Lord, 2023 — embraced this spirit to imagine the universally adored Pooh Bear of literature and film as a serial killer. The film's violent conclusion leaves its story open-ended, and its filmmakers are just getting started building a children's-character-turned-slasher cinematic universe straight out of a fever dream.

Friends will gather to take revenge in the upcoming Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, a sequel to this year’s viral slasher movie that scared up $6 million at the box office.
Rhys Frake-Waterfield is back to direct the Pooh-based slasher sequel, and THR reports this week that filming is set to begin on the brand new continuation this coming Fall.
In fact, Blood and Honey 2 has already scored several international sales deals, including in Mexico, Germany, Italy, France, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and India.
ITN will release the sequel here in the United States. THR notes, “The production is expected to include a substantially larger budget than its predecessor film.”

Yes folks you read that title right…Nerdly has joined British Gothic Horror The Baby in the Basket, which stars Amber Doig-Thorne (Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey), teaming with Shepka Productions and Flickering Myth on the production.
Some years back our Managing Editor Phil put together a project called Nerdly Presents. This was with the intention of getting more involved with our industry in a production and distribution capacity. The brand got off to an “interesting” start with Nerdly Presents’ first release, director James Cullen Bressack’s Hate Crime, getting banned by the BBFC! That was swiftly followed up with the VOD release of To Jennifer, another Bressack film, via the now-defunct UK-based TheHorrorShow.TV streaming service.
In short, yes we review and cover Films, TV, Comics, Games and Wrestling at every level, but we want to do more for independent creators. Hence Nerdly Presents. More recently we have...

Amber Doing-Thorne leads the pack in Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey
Amber Doig-Thorne is a hard working actor with a lot to say. There’s an energy about her which comes across as much in conversation as it does on the silver screen. She’s interested in everything and keen to get stuck in, the sort of person who is a gift to a busy production unit but at perpetual risk of taking on so much that she never has a moment to herself, something which, in the course of our conversation, she admits to having done for six months of last year. We’re meeting to talk about her latest horror film, Glasgow Frightfest selection Winnie The Pooh: Blood And Honey, so I begin by asking her if she was a fan of the denizens of Hundred Acre Wood as a child.

The past several years have seen several buzzworthy horror films released — but none has been more controversial than the 2023 flick, Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.
The slasher retelling of the beloved children’s stories made the rounds on social media well before it was released, drumming up significant fan interest. When the movie was released, it became a surprise hit. It prompted a sequel order and many positive responses from horror fans.
While many are already making plans to see the sequel, citizens of China shouldn’t expect to catch it in theaters. The country banned Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey for a rather interesting reason.

A.A. Milne’s 1926 children’s book Winnie-the-Pooh and the characters in it lapsed into the public domain at the start of last year, and that’s how Frake-Waterfield was able to make this movie happen, no permission required. The filmmaker explained to Variety that Pooh and Piglet (go) on a rampage after being abandoned by a college-bound Christopher Robin. “Christopher Robin is pulled away from them, and he’s not [given] them food, it’s made Pooh and Piglet’s life quite difficult. The film played in theaters here in the United States through February 23, initially in 1,652 theaters but very quickly cut down to a few hundred.
Despite the relatively limited release – and also in spite of the largely negative reviews – Blood and Honey managed to scare up an impressive $1.7 million domestically. When news broke that a horror film called Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey would premiere in 2023, people certainly had mixed reactions. Whether you loved or hated the idea from the get-go, you probably had the same question as everyone else: How could they get away with creating a horror version of Winnie the Pooh without committing copyright violations?
The answer is complicated. But this was clearly a team that did their homework. The film premiered on February 15 without a legal hitch. It’s been so popular with viewers that a sequel has already been greenlit. Here’s how it all unfolded:
The history of Winnie the Pooh and how Disney got involved
Roger Lewis on fine form with Winnie the Pooh. The first line:
"Now that the Winnie-the-Pooh books have fallen out of copyright, I can say with impunity I never could stand the fat wee bastard."
Then he really gets going.

Rhys Frake-Waterfield is plotting a horror cinematic universe based on beloved children’s story characters that are in the public domain. He was the director of the recently released Winnie-the-Pooh horror movie Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey (read our review Here), and he’s in development on movies like Bambi: The Reckoning and Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare. Since these characters are public domain, he doesn’t have to ask anyone’s permission to put a horrific twist on their stories. But if copyright wasn’t an issue, Frake-Waterfield would also like to make horror movies featuring characters like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Teletubbies.
Speaking with Collider, Frake-Waterfield said, “I’ve really been excited by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lately because I think the story has a very kind of horrifying undertone anyway because it’s these half-human, half-turtles who live in the sewer who have a rat king who they follow,...

Warning: This article contains spoilers for "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey."
Before the lights dimmed at my screening of "Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey," a fellow moviegoer remarked, "I hope this is terrible. I hope afterward I feel ridiculous about buying a ticket for this." I love that comment because it encapsulates the strange way audiences seem to approach the film. You kind of want it to be bad, partially because you know what you're getting yourself into. Absolutely no one enters a horror film that stars Pooh Bear expecting the next great cinema masterpiece, so the value is in the sheer bizarre nature of the concept.
"Blood and Honey" is funny when it wants to be, but it's just as often humorous when the audience can't quite tell whether a scene is supposed to play for laughs or not. Furthermore, while many sequences are outlandishly comical, it's surprising the story leans...

On January 1, 2022, A.A. Milne's gentle 1926 children's novel "Winnie-the-Pooh" finally entered the public domain. Previously, Disney owned the rights to the character, having owned them since 1966, and for many, Disney's rendition of the little stuffed teddy bear had become the character's pop culture standard. Few characters in children's literature are as gentle and as guileless as Winnie-the-Pooh, and Disney's version merely amped up the saccharine sweetness. Milne's conceit is that Pooh and his stuffed animal compatriots may be imagined by their owner, a 6-year-old British boy named Christopher Robin, and their conversations are whimsically circular and not terribly deep.
Naturally, when Pooh became the property of the people, the first thing filmmaker Rhys Frake-Waterfield wanted to do was to make an ultra-violent horror movie, with everyone favorite silly ol' bear as a bloodthirsty, murderous hillbilly. The resulting film is just as stupid as one might expect.

Two years ago, director Rhys Frake-Waterfield was producing micro-budget horror movies such as “Dinosaur Hotel” and “Firenado” in between working for a British electricity supplier. Now, he is poised to become the helmer behind what may soon be one of the most profitable movies in the last decade in terms of budget-to-box office ratio.
Next week, “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey,” his directorial debut, will open across 1,500 screens in the U.S., followed by 1,300 in Latin America, 100 in Canada and countless more in the U.K., Japan, Australia and Benelux. (Premiere Entertainment is handling international sales.) In Mexico, where the film was released on Jan. 29, “Pooh” hit number 4 at the box office in its first week, nestled between “M3GAN” and “Avatar 2,” taking in over 700,000.
Sure, those other films had already been out for some time, but “Pooh” was made for less than a hundredth of “M3GAN’s” 12 million budget.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey will be available in 1,500 theaters nationwide starting on Wednesday, February 15 and running through Monday, February 23, and the team at Jagged Edge Productions is already teasing more blood and more honey in a sequel.
Friends will gather… to take revenge… in Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, a follow-up movie that’s listed as “coming soon” on the official teaser poster that debuted this week.
Rhys Frake-Waterfield directed Blood and Honey for Jagged Edge Productions.
In this version of the classic story, Christopher Robin is headed off to college and he has abandoned his old friends, which then leads to the duo embracing their inner monsters.
“The days of adventures and merriment have come to an end, as Christopher Robin, now a young man, has left Winnie-The-Pooh and Piglet to fend for themselves. As time passes, feeling angry and abandoned, the two become feral.

Director Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s movie Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey will be getting a nine day theatrical release though Fathom Events in the US on February 15th – but a couple weeks away from that date, Frake-Waterfield has revealed that he’s already working on a sequel! And while developing the follow-up, he’s drawing inspiration from last year’s indie hit Terrifier 2…
Speaking with SFX Magazine (we send our thanks out to Games Radar for spreading the word), Frake-Waterfield said that he had Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Wrong Turn on his mind while he was crafting Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. “And as we’re going into the sequel soon, Terrifier 2 is going to be one of my key reference points. I want to make sure I go as big and epic as they went with that. I want to try and push it even more.
