This film is a remake of the Tamil film Kaakha Kaakha (2003), directed and written by Gautham Vasudev Menon. The director remade his own film the following year as the Telugu film Gharshana (2004). Also another remake of the original film was made in Hindi with the title Force (2011), directed by Nishikant Kamat. All four films have the same basic story and are very similar in the decisive scenes.
