In some prints, the piece of film that shows the artist shooting himself is missing. But that's what happens: after shooting the husband, the artist turns the gun on himself and fires.
Several small companies specializing in public domain movies have released this film. Beware. Some small distributors market copies of both public domain and copyrighted films with poor picture and sound. Others are more reputable and deliver good transfers of the best available prints. Easy Virtue (1928) has no music score. It's a silent film. The music you're hearing was added by its distributor. The quality of the music on DVDs of silent movies varies from distributor to distributor. Some record original scores, some carefully piece together a score from public domain sources and some slap on an irrelevant soundtrack. Shop around.
