Towards the end, during the battle for Odessa, the Primorsky Steps, immortalised in The Battleship Potemkin, are briefly shown (though whether these are the real steps or a studio recreation is unclear).
This was the first collaboration between the Italian and Romanian film industries, with a separate Romanian language version being also shot by Gallone using a slightly different cast.
