At the concert sitting behind Jeanne Crain was Bess Flowers, a well-known and prolific "dress extra" who was widely regarded as "Queen of the Extras". She appeared almost 1,000 times in a wide variety of movies and films, 25 of which were nominated for Best picture. In the list of "1,001 Movies You Need To See Before You Die", she was in 33, far more than any other performer.
Cary Grant left his hand and footprints outside Grauman's Chinese Theater as part of the opening publicity for this film. The pictures of him taking part in the ceremony of making his prints in the cement clearly show the People Will Talk poster on the Theater's famous "next attraction" wall.
In early pre-production, Jeanne Crain campaigned for the female lead, but the role went to Anne Baxter. After Baxter had to forfeit due to approaching motherhood, Crain's wishes were granted.
Deborah refers to her feeling like "a kind of idiot Elsie Dinsmore." Elsie Dinsmore was the protagonist of a series of children's books written between 1867 and 1905 by Martha Finley. They were morality stories, with simple Elsie always struggling to remain pious and true to her religious ideals despite a worldly, secular father and several bullies. They were wildly popular even decades after the death of the author, even though they were and are seen as poorly written.
Dr. Praetorius' car is a 1951 Lincoln Cosmopolitan 2-door convertible. Only 857 convertibles were built that year. MSRP was $3,891 (approximately $38,900 in 2020). In excellent condition, at auction, these cars can fetch $50,000 or more.
