Magda Schneider, playing Sissi's mother Ludovika in all three parts of the Sissi trilogy, is Romy Schneider's real life mother.
Romy Schneider played an older version of Empress Elisabeth/Sissi in the film Ludwig (1973). She only accepted to play the role again because it was a totally different version than the one she portrayed in the "Sissi" trilogy.
Sissi met Franz Joseph at the age of 15, and was married at 16.
During the wedding ceremony there is a nod to the popular Dutch tradition of Saint Nicolas and Black Piet (of the Netherlands). When the steamboat sails by the music notes of the traditional song "Oh, Kom Er Eens Kijken" ("Oh, Come And Take A Look") are heard. In the Dutch tradition Saint Nicolas and Black Piet travel by steamboat from Spain to the Netherlands.
