Imagine this: you’re a little kid dressed up as a private, playing war with your buddies, except…it’s real. The guns are still just sticks and grenades just empty cupped palms, but the enemy is wholeheartedly believed to linger on the opposite side of a grassy no man’s land, traversing an adult-less world of child’s play doused in Ptsd.
The eight young soldiers—or “shoulders” as one might accidently say mid-rant—are practicing their military techniques with tree branches as they don’t have any weapons or even a lieutenant to tell them what the hell’s going on. All they know is they’re stranded in a northern look-out post amid idyllic, isolated Scottish hills, awaiting enemy attack. Whoever the “enemy” is.
The jingoistic band of boys might be far from frontline battles, but they soon discover—idle-eyed and bored of porridge—that the real battle is within.

Alan Arkin, the Oscar and Tony-winning actor who starred in films ranging from “Catch-22” to “Little Miss Sunshine,” has died at the age of 89. His death was confirmed by his sons Adam, Matthew and Anthony in a statement obtained by TheWrap. A cause of death has, as of this time, not been given.
“Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man. A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed,” the statement reads.
Borning in Brooklyn, New York on March 26, 1934, Arkin was the son of a painter and a teacher. He was raised Jewish, albeit with “no emphasis on religion,” and his family moved to Los Angeles when he was 11. His father worked as a set decorator until losing that job due to an eight-month Hollywood strike. Arkin’s parents were accused of being Communists...

The first images of George Clooney’s “Catch-22” adaptation are here, including a few shots of Clooney himself in costume.
Clooney was originally set to play one of the lead roles on the six-episode Hulu miniseries, on which he also serves as director and executive producer. However, he instead opted for the smaller part and passed on the role of Col. Cathcart to Kyle Chandler.
The adaptation is told from the perspective of the character Yossarian, played by “Girls” alum Christopher Abbott, a bombardier for the U.S. Air Force during World War II who faces a constant struggle of serving in war and doing what he must in order to survive.

The premise of writer-director Sebastián Silva’s “Tyrel” is simple enough: a guy joins his friend on a trip to the Catskills for a weekend birthday party (which also happens to be Trump’s inauguration weekend) with several people he doesn’t know, and he quickly discovers he is the only black man there.
With that in mind, the movie you expect is one that might offer some smart social commentary, a statement on fake woke-ness, or perhaps a thriller similar to Jordan Peele’s “Get Out.” Instead, what “Tyrel” offers is one stellar performance by Jason Mitchell alongside a whole bunch of loose ends, half-thought-out commentary, and no answers for the questions the film proposes. The results may leave you confused and quite cold.

Paramount Pictures and former Paramount Television president Amy Powell have reached a settlement to head off litigation in connection with her abrupt firing in July after nearly 15 years with the studio.
Powell was dismissed following allegations that she made racially insensitive remarks during a work-related conference call. Powell vehemently denied saying anything inflammatory. According to sources close to the situation, she disputed the accounts of four other participants on the call.
“The matter has been resolved,” a rep for Paramount Pictures said. A rep for Powell declined to comment.
It’s understood that the settlement involved a financial payout of her employment contract, which had a little more than a year to run at the time she was let go. On Wednesday, Paramount named Nicole Clemens, formerly of Anonymous Content and FX, as Powell’s successor at Paramount TV.

Kyle Chandler is joining the “Catch-22” series at Hulu as Col. Cathcart, the role originally set to be played by George Clooney, Variety has confirmed.
Clooney, who is also co-directing and executive producing the series, will instead take on a smaller role to focus more on his behind the camera duties. He will now play Scheisskopf, the training commander at Yossarian’s cadet school.
The role marks Chandler’s second major part in a streaming series, having previously starred in the Netflix drama “Bloodline.” He also recently appeared in the comedy film “Game Night.” Chandler is perhaps best known for playing football coach Eric Taylor in NBC’s series adaptation of “Friday Night Lights.” His other recent roles include the films “Manchester by the Sea,” “The Wolf of Wall Street,” and “Argo.”
He is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
