Happy 2021, everyone! It’s been a few weeks, but we’re back with a brand-new edition of our weekly Blu-ray and DVD releases column to kick off this new year. And while we may not have a ton of titles headed home on Tuesday, we do have an excellent bunch of films all the same, including one of my favorite films of 2020, Love and Monsters, which hits various formats this week. Another film from last year that I really enjoyed was Brea Grant’s 12 Hour Shift, which hits both Blu-ray and DVD (and will be available On Demand) tomorrow, and if you have somehow never seen it, I highly recommend picking up the new Blu for Savage Streets, featuring Linda Blair.
Other releases for January 5th include Tintorera… Tiger Shark, From the Depths, Nina of the Woods, and Hacksaw.

Project details nowhere to be found.
Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail will direct a film about the infamous Bermuda Triangle for Universal Pictures.
Esmail will write the script from earlier drafts by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, and Juliet Snowden & Stiles White.
The Bermuda Triangle is a region over the Caribbean that earned notoriety several decades ago for press coverage about a number of planes and ships that reportedly went missing after travelling through the area.
Appropriately enough, Esmail, his fellow producers, and Universal are keeping plot details under wraps.

Sam Raimi, best known for the Evil Dead and Spider-Man movies, is about to get lost in the web of the devil’s triangle. The man who brought Xena: The Warrior Princess to TV will be battling two other studios in a trio of movies being made about the Bermuda triangle. Raimi is navigating negotiations to develop and possibly direct one for Skydance Productions.
Skydance has been developing its Bermuda triangle movie since 2013. Universal and Warner Bros have also been working on films about the mysterious Caribbean travel hazard.
The latest version of the Skydance film, which is as-yet untitled, was written by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift also wrote a draft of the script. There is no studio attached to the project yet.

Sam Raimi is in no big rush to make his next movie, though he’s certainly been stacking up quite a few options. Perhaps the most high profile is a Hollywood redo of Jacques Audiard‘s intense “A Prophet,” while on the blockbuster front he’s taken a look at “World War 3” and the tornado heist movie “Stormfall.” Well, Raimi is putting another big project into the mix.

Michael Caine had an interesting run of genre flicks starting in the late ‘70s. The Swarm (1978) was laughed off the screen, Dressed to Kill (1980) was enjoyed by audiences and critics alike, and The Hand (1981) dropped his batting average once again. Nestled in between all those was The Island (1980), a killer pirate movie from the author of Jaws and directed by the man behind The Bad News Bears. What could go wrong? Well, everything, according to most folk. It’s an odd one to be sure, but the wild tonal shifts that prevent the ship from staying on a clear course make it a fascinating treasure that gets better with each viewing.
Released in June by Universal, The Island had a surefire pedigree for success; the Jaws juggernaut of producers Zanuck and Brown and author Peter Benchley (here, adapting his own novel) promised a good time to be had by all.

The mid-to-late Seventies seemed rife with films that featured sharks and the mysterious depths of the Bermuda waters. High class entries of course included Jaws (1975) and The Deep (1977), both of which were based upon successful novels by Peter Benchley. For every good example, there is naturally a fair amount of cheaper, less impressive imitations. Bermuda: Cave of the Sharks (1978) directed by Italian Tonino Ricci, unfortunately lands in that category.
When Andres (Andrés García ) and his partner Angelica (Janet Agren ) are hired to recover some treasures from an aircraft that has ditched into the Bermuda Triangle, they face not only human treachery but also the mysterious powers of an underwater civilization. Ricci’s film did very little business and came about strictly because of the Italian film industry’s love affair with shark movies.
However, Tonino Ricci did have the good sense to hire Italian composer Stelvio Cipriani to write the score.

No, this title doesn’t refer to being the last one to arrive in music class and getting stuck with the lamest of instruments to play. Satan’s Triangle (1975) is a creepy, seafaring TV tale of supernatural mystery with an ending that absolutely kills. You may think the title tells all, and the journey can’t quite supplant the destination, but oh boy, what a destination. You’re going to need your sea legs for this finale.
For those not familiar with The Bermuda Triangle, aka The Devil’s Triangle, it is an area of water loosely configured between Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and Florida that was privy to many disappearances – boats, planes, and people. And back in the ‘70s, long before the internet, the only information to go on about this and other phenomena (Hey Bigfoot!) was provided by speculative quasidocumentaries, scientific journals dispelling the myths, and TV fodder such as Satan’s Triangle.

Earlier today a couple of TV spots were released for the upcoming “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” film. But Warner Bros. wasn’t finished yet! A new trailer also arrived today. Though “new” may be a bit of a stretch as nearly all of the footage is recycled. One of the most interesting never-before-seen bits involved Wonder Woman and flight. The boring human kind. On a boring old plane. If you don't want to watch the full trailer, I've packaged the important part into a handy Gif. You're welcome. Gif Credit: DC Films What Does It Mean? It means Wonder Woman has a secret identity. Full stop. But let’s speculate anyway! We now know Diana has been kicking around Man’s World since the 1910s, as “Wonder Woman” is set during Wwi. But this doesn’t mean she’s continuously lived on Earth. Comic book Wonder Woman treks...

It was the Lost of the sitcom world. The "Who Shot J.R.?" of mysterious TV romances. The Bermuda Triangle of Perfectly Nice Women Who Were Not The Mother. How I Met Your Mother was also a cavalcade of questions, beer, tangents, inside jokes, more beer and women who were dumb enough to fall for Barney's sex-fueled tricks before he finally settled down. And then he got divorced, and then he fooled around some more before ending up with a baby. And now, it is over. Cue gross, messy sobs. Since we've had a couple of days to process How I Met Your Mother's emotional and polarizing finale, it's time to go back and check on all of the mysteries we've come to wonder about over the years....

Good news, Glee fans. The Bermuda Triangle school year at McKinley is actually over. Seniors Artie, Sam, Tina, Blaine, Becky, and even Brittany, back from her imprisonment at MIT, have all flipped their tassel over to the other side. They are moving on, but not before leaving us with one more iconic moment. “Don’t Stop Believin’” was quite obviously the only song to end the Glee Club’s five year run and this version does an amazing job of pulling the original characters and the newbies together in a single, meaningful act. While Kurt, played by Chris Colfer, lends his voice as the male lead and shows off his vocal range in the process, “Don’t Stop Believin’” is missing something without Finn. The chemistry between Kurt and Rachel...

Warner Bros. has just acquired the rights to an original spec script by screenwriter Daniel Kunka called The Bermuda Triangle. There's not much information on the plot of the film, but they are looking to turn it into an action franchise. As the film's title suggests, it will center on the legendary supernatural phenomenon that is supposedly the cause of several ship and plane disappearances over the years.
I enjoy reading about the history of these kinds of supernatural mythologies, and I bet this could turn out to be a cool film if they don't turn it into something over-the-top and stupid.
The film is being developed over at Atlas Entertainment and Madhouse Entertainment with Charles Roven and Richard Suckle producing.
