The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show, and the rest of the new ABC Saturday morning lineup, did not debut until November 8 (instead of the traditional first or second week of September) because of a voice actors' strike.
This was the only Hanna-Barbera series for which Scooby-Doo was given second billing.
This series marks the animated debut of Richie Rich as well as other characters from the "Richie Rich" comics.
The animated series has a number of changes from the original comics:
Richie and his pals are somewhat older, around 12 years old.
Richie wears a red sweater with a large yellow R on the front and a blue bowtie as well as trousers.
Dollar is more anthropomorphized, with Walter Mitty-like fantasies.
Irona The Robot Maid is given a greater presence in the series with additional duties as Richie's personal bodyguard. To fulfill that role, Irona can convert her body into various alternative modes as necessary. For instance, the moment she receives a summons from Richie, she would change her body into a jet plane mode and immediately fly to the boy.
