Alright kids, put down your TikToks and your Roblox and your [checks notes] Skibidi Toilets. It’s time for a history lesson, because “Moana 2” isn’t just a movie. It’s a throwback to a long-lost historical era when sequels usually sucked. Why we’d want to throw back to that I have no idea, but I guess everything old is new again and Disney is, if nothing else, a nostalgia factory.
There was a time when saying “sequels suck” wasn’t just pessimistic, it was stating a statistical average. There were always noteworthy exceptions but for most of the 20th century, follow-ups to great and/or popular movies were usually less great and less popular. Often they were just shameless excuses to crank a few extra dollars out of the audience, so they fell into obscurity quickly. “Three Men and a Little Lady” did not do justice to “Three Men and a Baby.

Yvette Nicole Brown (‘The Masked Singer’ Showbird): The music industry ‘didn’t love me back’ [Watch]
Season 12 of “The Masked Singer” continued Wednesday night on Fox, with four Group A contestants belting out classic hits from “Footloose.” Following the studio audience vote, Showbird became the second singer to unmask this season, revealing Emmy-nominated actress Yvette Nicole Brown. Watch our video interview above.
“I was blessed to be signed to Motown records under Michael Bivins when I was a teenager,” she reveals. “I was a member of the East Coast Family with Boyz II Men. Music was everything to me. My first love, but it didn’t love me back. I shifted when I moved to LA and started going into acting. Then acting took off and music was just something that I loved that I never got to do unless it was as a character. This is the first time I’m getting to sing in my own voice for everybody to hear.”

Note: Spoilers ahead for Wednesday night’s “Footloose”-themed episode of “The Masked Singer”
After years of guessing one name over and over on “The Masked Singer,” Ken Jeong was finally proven right when Showbird was sent home on Wednesday night.
The second episode of the season was “Footloose” night, themed around the beloved film which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. To celebrate, panelist Robin Thicke performed his own rendition of the iconic song, and actor Kevin Bacon even recorded a special message for fans.
But, as celebratory as it was, someone still had to go home at the end of the night, and that someone was Showbird. So, who was under the mask?
Well, panelist Ken Jeong has guessed Yvette Nicole Brown just about every season since the show started, and this time, he was right. His “Community” costar was indeed under the mask. In fact, surprising...

Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 12, Episode 2 of “The Masked Singer,” “Footloose Night” which aired October 2 on Fox.
Wednesday night’s “The Masked Singer” reveal was an emotional one for “Community” star Yvette Nicole Brown, who was unmasked as Showbird on episode 2 of Season 12. As Brown was taping the episode she was also dealing with some personal matters involving the care of her father.
“Some of it felt heavy because I’m singing, but I’m thinking, ‘is daddy Ok,’” she told Variety. “But by the time I was revealed, I was able to kind of let that all out. Plus I got to surprise Ken, and it was everything that I hoped it would be!”
That’s “Ken” as in “The Masked Singer” panelist Ken Jeong, Brown’s “Community” co-star who of course guessed her right. Among the other panelists, Robin Thicke agreed with Jeong, while Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg thought it was Taraji P. Henson.

“The Masked Singer” is back on Fox for its 12th season in the US, bringing a whole new crop of celebrities, athletes and more to compete anonymously for the Golden Mask.
Last season, “High School Musical” and “Grease Live!” star Vanessa Hudgens took home the trophy as Goldfish. Of course, fans clocked her voice immediately, and she told TheWrap back in May that she “didn’t even try” to hide her voice because she knew she couldn’t.
It’s unclear if she’ll return as a guest this season, as winners often do — William Shatner popped up in the premiere to introduce a performance from panelist Rita Ora — but “The Masked Singer” tends to have quite a few surprises throughout the season.
Here’s what you need to know about season 12.

“The Masked Singer” returned to kick off season 12 on Wednesday night, and ironically enough “kick off” is a pretty good metaphor for the first contestant that was eliminated.
The night began with a special appearance by season 8 contestant William Shatner, who sang under the knight mask during his stint on the show. On Wednesday though, he was just himself, taking the stage to introduce a performance by panelist Rita Ora, returning for her second season.
From there, things proceeded as usual, with the first group of contestants taking the stage for their own performances. In the end though, it was Leaf Sheep that saw an early elimination, and under the mask was… John Elway, formerly of the Denver Broncos.
See? Kick off, kickoff…we told you! Sure, Elway was a quarterback, rather than a kicker, but it still counts. And with that, season 12 of “The Masked Singer” is officially underway.

Image Source: Amazon Expectations ran high when Streets of Fire was released 40 years ago. It was co-written and directed by Walter Hill, who’d just come off the massive success of the Eddie Murphy vehicle 48 Hrs. It was a music-driven film at a time when similar movies, like Footloose, were doing big business. And yet, when it was released early in the summer of 1984, Streets of Fire flamed out at the box office. Over the years, though, the movie has morphed into a cult classic. Michael Paré, whose career was just getting off the ground while he was filming Streets of Fire, talked about the movie at an Njhc March 2023 panel, and he recalled how some of the things he was asked to do seemed a bit overwhelming. Julianne Hough is getting vulnerable about the trauma and abuse she endured as a child and how she’s worked to heal her pain over the years.
The professional dancer and actress opened up during an emotional conversation on Thursday’s episode of The Jamie Kern Lima Show, where she revealed that she was “about 4 years old” when she was sexually abused for the first time. Hough said her abuser was a neighbor who lived in the same Utah cul-de-sac as her family.
“I’ve actually never said that out loud to anybody in an interview before,” Hough admitted. “But that was a very, very confusing time because, obviously, growing up in the Mormon culture, everything needs to be perfect, everybody needs to put on the shiny, we’ve got our stuff together. And there was not a lot of repercussion for what had happened.”

Kevin Bacon Says EPing ABC’s ‘Lucky 13’ Game Show Came From Being Open to ‘Outside of the Box’ Ideas
Kevin Bacon hadn’t considered entering into the world of competition reality television, but when ABC called him up about the possibility of executive producing a new game show, he was all ears.
“All throughout my life, there’s always been moments where an idea seems like a little bit outside of the box, depending on what I had been involved in,” Bacon told TheWrap. “But over the years, I’ve learned to leave myself open to all kinds of crazy notions.”
Despite having no background in the genre, Bacon was intrigued by one of the three ideas brought forward by the creators of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” Bacon said that he watched that series and even once competed on the celebrity edition, but admitted that he “didn’t do very well.”
After setting up a call where Bacon played the “Lucky 13” game himself, he was sold.
