What are the greatest action movies of all time? It’s a controversial question, isn’t it? Any time any publication or site puts out a new list of what they consider the best action movies of all time, it can’t help but generate a ton of controversy. Nevertheless, we here at JoBlo have decided to throw our hats into the ring with a list we really hope generates some nostalgia among our viewers but also encourages them to seek out the movies on this list that they may not have seen. But first, some may wonder where superhero movies are on this list. Given how broad that genre is, we decided to stick to old-school action, so we have left them off the list, as they deserve their own ranking. There are also a few absences from the list, notably some Jackie Chan Hong Kong films (like Police Story...

The 1990s were a phenomenal decade for the action movie, with almost every year seeing the release of multiple iconic films in the genre. Many of the best action movies were released in the 90s, the decade simply being something special when it came to dreaming up long-lasting action franchises and memorable one-off thrillers with plenty of heart, humor, and creativity. From 1990 to 1999, some of the greatest names in the space saw their debut for a very lucky generation of movie goers.
The big action movies of the 80s like First Blood and Commando had come and gone by the start of the 90s, with some of them carrying their influence into future action spectacles. However, the 90s also saw a rise of action heroes that were more like relatable everymen compared to the unstoppable muscular juggernauts of the 80s, creating a unique voice for the generation of films. There is literally only one star that could have made Predator's bait-and-switch work, and his name is Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Arnold Schwarzenegger action movies of the 1980s and 1990s are one of the best runs any actor has had in the genre, yielding several classics (The Terminator duology) and enduring favorites. By the time the first Predator arrived in 1987, Arnie was officially one of the biggest stars in the world - but he still took a risk with the project.
It's a unique fusion of action and horror and ends with Arnold's Dutch getting his ass thoroughly kicked by a giant alien. Had the movie not worked, it could have been an embarrassing failure that hurt his career. Instead, it launched Arnie to new heights, while spawning the Predator movie franchise. None of the sequels quite recaptured what made the original so special, which includes the sheer surprise of...

By the end of the 80s, the action genre was primed for parody. The decade gave rise to the muscle-bound action hero, who by the early 90s had already become something of an archetype in wider culture. So, you'd think something like "National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1" would be a comedic hit when it debuted in 1993. Unfortunately, it didn't quite work out that way.
The film stars Emilio Estevez as Sgt. Jack Colt, a parody of Mel Gibson's Martin Riggs from the "Lethal Weapon" films. Samuel L. Jackson plays his reluctant partner, Sgt. Wes Luger, himself a parody of Danny Glover's Roger Murtaugh. Together the LAPD duo embark on a mission to solve the murder of their fellow officer Sgt. Billy York (Whoopi Goldberg), which is essentially just an excuse for the film to, er, lampoon the action genre as a whole.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ascension to the status of a billionaire was not a result of the accumulated pension of an A-lister over the course of his successful career in Hollywood. The star of films such as The Terminator and True Lies has faced more ups and downs in his career than an amusement park roller coaster.

And now, it seems like Schwarzenegger has spread his influence into real estate as well.

Prior to its release in 1991, there was every reason to believe that Michael Lehmann's heist comedy "Hudson Hawk" would be a hit. It was written by star screenwriter Steven E. de Souza, who had already had gigantic success with film like "48 Hrs.," "Commando," "Jumping Jack Flash," and "The Running Man." His biggest smash was "Die Hard" in 1988, and he was tapped to write the sequel two years later. "Hudson Hawk" would re-team de Souza with "Die Hard" star Bruce Willis, and the film would boast performances from Danny Aiello, fresh from "Moonstruck," as well as James Coburn, Richard E. Grant, Sandra Bernhard, and Andie MacDowell. Lehmann, meanwhile, also had a big cult success in 1988 with "Heathers." Never mind that his bonkers mutant-bug movie "Meet the Applegates" bombed in 1990. The sensibility was there.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was, for a time, one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood. He still carries this reputation with him now at 77 years old, and many of his action flicks from the '80s and '90s have stood the test of time. Schwarzenegger's action hero tenure largely started with Conan the Barbarian in 1982, but it was 1984's The Terminator and his role as the T-800 that cemented him as a staple of the genre.
Movies from the '80s like Predator (1987) and The Running Man (1987) remain Scharzenegger action classics, as does 1990's Total Recall. The 90's saw the Austrian actor's domination of the action space continue with movies like Kindergarten Cop (1990), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Last Action Hero (1993) and True Lies (1994). There's one title from the '80s, however, that also lives on as not just a quintessential Schwarzenegger action movie, but as one that is emblematic of...

"Kindergarten Cop" is the quintessential 90s movie. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, the defining action star of the era, in a role few thought he could pull off, and it's directed by one of the most prolific filmmakers of the decade. The film also features a cast of young actors just before they went on to achieve major success. Now, we're looking back at the talent involved in "Ghostbusters" director Ivan Reitman's popular 1990 comedy to find out what they're up to these days, mainly because we love reminding ourselves just how old we are.
For those unaware, "Kindergarten Cop" follows Detective John Kimble (Arnold) as he goes undercover as a kindergarten teacher to bust a dangerous criminal. Like "Twins," Reitman's previous collaboration with Arnold, "Kindergarten Cop" blends comedy with drama, plus a hefty dose of surprisingly violent action, resulting in the perfect movie to show kids of all ages in...

We all know Arnold Schwarzenegger terminated the 1980s as the premiere action movie star alongside Stallone, but what about the 90s? Beyond Total Recall, T-2: Judgment Day, and True Lies, what’s the best Arnie action flick released between 1990 and 1999? And when we mean best, we don’t mean box office success, we’re talking about old-school ass-kicking Schwarzenegger action hinting at the halcyon days that date back to Commando and Conan the Barbarian. Is it Last Action Hero? End of Days? Or is it Chuck Russell’s underrated 1996 conspiracy espionage thriller Eraser? If you said Junior, Jingle All the Way, or Batman & Robin, you may kindly show yourselves out the door this instant. Better yet, stick around, Eraser is about to wipe your memory and prove why it’s the last great Arnie action flick to blast the masses in the 1990s.

Arnold Schwarzenegger accomplished a lot in his life. After being born in an obscure little village in Austria in 1947 and growing up with a temperamental father who used to serve in the Nazi Party during WWII, he climbed the social ladder by winning bodybuilding competitions across Europe, immigrated to the US in 1968, married into the high-profile Kennedy family in 1986, became the Governor of California in 2003, and remains the most famous actor today with a high celebrity net worth of $1 Billion.

Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers for DC Horror Presents: Creature Commandos #1!

It's hard to recommend the "Terrifier" films, seeing that they are the most violent, disgusting, and morally loathsome horror movies on the current cinematic landscape. But it's easy to warn people about them, and for the right breed of horror fan to take that warning as all the recommendation they need. God help me: I've become an Art the Clown fan, and each new entry in this ludicrously violent slasher series keeps finding new ways to test what I find acceptable in my entertainment.
"Terrifier 3" picks up the baton from its nasty, nightmarish predecessor and sprints with it. Like the surprise hit "Terrifier 2," the new movie is a nauseating experience where every death scene is masterclass in practical special effects wizardry. But also like the second movie, there's an eerie tinge of fantasy throughout the whole thing that makes it all feel like a weird dream to the viewer.

The "Terrifier" franchise is known for its stomach-churning gore and impressive low-budget effects, but the most surprising aspect of Damien Leone's films isn't the horror –- it's the fantasy. The property, which began in 2016 and continues this month with its third blood-soaked installment, has incorporated elements of the surreal and fantastical since pretty early on. At the end of the first film, Art the killer clown (David Howard Thornton) comes back to life, and in the second movie, a mystical sword, visions of a little girl, and an unholy birth all come into play.
These fantasy elements make the "Terrifier" franchise feel more ambitious and mysterious than the average hyper-violent slasher, but they often don't get talked about as much as the movies' headline-grabbing, barf-inducing kills. In an interview ahead of the "Terrifier 3" premiere at Fantastic Fest this year, /Film's Jacob Hall asked writer, director, and producer Leone about his '80s influences,...

Bob Yerkes, the acrobatic stunt performer who slid down a clock tower cable for Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future and hung around the Statue of Liberty under repair for Fred Ward in Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, has died. He was 92.
Yerkes died Tuesday of natural causes in Northridge, Darlene Ava Williams, a stunt performer and one of his many mentees, announced.
The amiable Yerkes, who started out in the circus and was a skilled trapeze aerialist and tightrope walker, also plummeted from a helicopter through a roof in Breakout (1975), starring Charles Bronson.
“I was getting ready for the stunt and the guy said, ‘Break a Leg!,” and I broke them both,” he recalled in a 2017 interview. He said he also broke legs while working on Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Her Alibi (1989), but, in a career that spanned eight decades, that was the extent of his serious injuries.

Intro: Comedies involving a central pair of main characters usually have one thing in common; their premise is generally very simple. Take 1994’s Dumb and Dumber, for example. The Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels all-time classic comedy, in which two hapless, hopeless losers attempt to return a suitcase full of cash to its rightful owner, thrives on how simple both the plot and the two main characters are. The Farrellys had an amazing knack in the 1990s for delivering comedies that were hilarious because they had a simple idea for the plot, plus they weren’t worried about upsetting anybody with outrageous sequences. Those were the days. You couldn’t produce mainstream comedies such as Me, Myself and Irene, Kingpin or There’s Something About Mary nowadays, for fear of upsetting someone.

Easily the most iconic line from The Warriors is the villain's menacing "Warriors, come out to play!" and the iconic taunt has a fascinating origin story. People massively underestimate Arnold Schwarzeneggers acting abilities; hes proven with movies like Maggie and The Terminator that hes not just a one-note action hero. Schwarzenegger started out as a bodybuilder before making the transition to acting, and as with anyone who comes to acting from another field whether that field is music, wrestling, or something else his dramatic capabilities have been consistently underrated. Theres a misconception that Schwarzenegger plays the same character in every movie, like Dwayne The Rock Johnson, but thats simply not true. Schwarzenegger has played all kinds of roles, from a killer cyborg to a pregnant man.
Schwarzenegger certainly has a familiar on-screen persona that can be seen in a lot of his action movies, like Commando and The Expendables saga, and that on-screen persona is a lot of fun to watch. But hes shown time and time again that hes capable of so much more than that.

Last Action Hero underperformed despite its great comedy elements and clever satire of the action genre. Schwarzenegger's comedic timing shines, but not all his comedy movies hit the mark like Last Action Hero. The movie's meta humor and self-awareness have since influenced modern blockbusters, making it ahead of its time.
While one of Arnold Schwarzeneggers biggest action movies should have been a hit, the famous flop Last Action Hero instead underperformed even though it was secretly great. Not all of Arnold Schwarzeneggers comedy movies work. The actor has some great comedic timing, but the basic premise of a big brawny action hero showing up where hes not expected isnt always enough to carry an entire movie. For every Twins, there is a Junior, and for every hit like Kindergarten Cop, there is a miss like 2017's Killing Gunther. Despite this, I wish the screen veterans most overlooked comedy was better received.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's Sabotage bombed both financially and critically. Director David Ayer's original vision for Sabotage was even darker and had a different ending for Schwarzenegger's character. Sabotage could benefit from an "Ayer Cut" to restore deleted scenes and improve the film's reputation, similar to the situation with Suicide Squad.
Arnold Schwarzenegger's Sabotage is a thinly-veiled remake of a classic Agatha Christie tale, and one that could use an "Ayer Cut" of its own. When Schwarzenegger made his acting comeback following his stint in politics, his fans were hoping for a return to form from the action icon. Sadly, none of the Arnold Schwarzenegger action movies that landed during the 2010s measured up to his heyday, critically or commercially. Projects like The Last Stand or Escape Plan were fun but disposable fare, but fell short of classics like Commando.

Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 is one of the most popular games of 2024 but it’s safe to say that its hype quickly faded away. Without a doubt, the game is still entertaining but many players have left the game because it became boring and repetitive.
Some players who left the game are planning to return, but it seems like they’re struggling to get used to the new changes, which were rolled out in patch 1.000.400 last month. The community has made it easier for returning players by telling them what they need to do to catch up.
Returning Helldivers 2 Players Are Getting Used To Balanced Weapons
A player on the the game’s subreddit asked the community to give him some advice as he is planning to return to Helldivers 2 after two months. Certainly, a lot of things have changed in the past two months, particularly the weapons and Stratagems.

"Local experts believe it to be the work of a rogue shark." Wild Eye Releasing has unveiled an official trailer for another trashy B-movie shark horror comedy coming up this year - this one is called Apex Predators 2: The Spawning. Yes indeed, it's another direct-to-video sequel to the original direct-to-video bad spoof movie Apex Predators (from 2021). In this one, mutated flying Sharks wreak havoc along the beach during an annual volleyball tournament. Vernon Wells encounters horror from the heavens in the highly anticipated sequel to Apex Predators. Also starring Christopher Showerman, Brinke Stevens, Mel Novak, Dawna Lee Heising, and Jennifer Nangle. Ferguson's Apex Predators 2 is the "feverishly fun new horror film from the makers of Mega Ape and Space Sharks!" And it looks just as terrible as those ones, of course. You might just believe sharks really can fly after watching this movie.

Netflix’s “Trigger Warning” is the kind of sturdy thriller that recalls movies from “First Blood” and “Commando” to the early John Cena vehicle “The Marine” and the 2004 remake of “Walking Tall”: a military veteran returns home, looking for peace, only to face violent antagonists who force him back into action.
The difference is that in “Trigger Warning,” the veteran is a woman (Jessica Alba), and the voice behind the camera is female also, as Indonesian director Mouly Surya makes her English-language debut. It’s not just Surya’s first American project after a series of acclaimed films in her home country but also her first action movie. As she told IndieWire, Surya was determined to deliver the traditional satisfactions of the genre while also exploring what it meant to have a woman in a role typically occupied by actors like Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and The Rock.

Hollywood bestowed us with one of the greatest action icons of this generation in the form of Arnold Schwarzenegger who also happens to be a jack-off-all-trades, because really, is there anything he can’t do?

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a cherished part of the film industry for decades. His influence on the action-film genre cannot be put into words, revolutionizing how fighting movies are made through projects like The Terminator franchise, Predator, Commando, and Total Recall. While all of these works are iconic in their own right, many more roles helped pave the actor’s reputation in Hollywood.

Well, I warned you. Kind of. While today’s story is released with Stephen King’s name plastered all over it, at the time of its release The Running Man was under the name of Richard Bachman, who had some dark stories attached to him. I was planning on doing this for a while but with the news that Edgar Wright is going to tackle the story in a new version that hopefully is closer to the book, it makes too much sense to talk about this dystopian horror now. While it’s a stalwart of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s catalogue of action, especially that range from 1987 to 1991, it’s not often looked at as a premiere Stephen King adaptation. It’s not expressly seen as horror but when it gets boiled down, both book and film, it’s horrific what happens in both stories and what’s going on in the worlds of both medias.

Like every online game, Helldivers 2 has also some hackers despite its strict anti-cheat system. We’ve seen hackers since day 1, spawning unreleased vehicles, Stratagems, and weapons. Ricochet is a dark thriller connected to Die Hard via the character of Gail Wallens (Mary Ellen Trainor). Denzel Washington's character faces torment and mental anguish, creating a bleak and harrowing journey. Originally conceived as a Dirty Harry sequel, Ricochet's script was rejected by Clint Eastwood as "too grim".
Arguably Denzel Washington's most shocking thriller is also a stealth Die Hard spinoff. Producer Joel Silver had a run of megahits from the 1980s onwards, having produced Commando, Predator, The Matrix and many more. Silver also produced the first two Die Hard movies, which had a sizable impact on action cinema. While action movies during the 1980s were dominated by indestructible, muscle-bound heroes played by Schwarzenegger and Stallone, Die Hard was fronted by an all-too human everyman. Bruce Willis' McClane bled, struggled and even cried, bringing a human element to the genre.

Just take a sneaky peak back on the movies we’ve covered so far on our Arnie Revisited series, and the Austrian Oak had already covered several genres in his rise from bodybuilder to Hollywood icon. Raw Deal and Commando were straight-up action movies, while his work as Conan was an epic mix of action and fantasy. You can even argue that The Terminator is a classic 80s slasher flick, and not simply the revolutionary sci-fi masterpiece it’s generally regarded as. However, he hadn’t managed to blend both horror and science fiction in any of his previous movies, in the way he did with the film we’re focusing on in today’s episode – Predator. It was such a huge success for both star and franchise that it not only helped to further cement Arnie as a Hollywood icon, but also created a franchise packed with sequels, a prequel,...

Hindi cinema is scattered with random movies about jingoism. Pathan, Jawan, Tiger 3, and the latest Fighter are prime examples of films that had nothing new to offer. Commando by Vipul Shah and Ib 71, starring Vidyut Jamwal, these two films went off the deep end and lost the plot in jingoistic means. Ruslaan is one such film that narrates the story of a young man who is keen to join the Indian intelligence, and in that pursuit, he is declared a terrorist after a mission goes wrong.
Spoilers Ahead
How did Ruslaan become an orphan?
The movie begins with a bunch of terrorists meeting to finalize the attack they had planned on a school. They were waiting for another associate to arrive with the arms and ammunition. One of them was the owner of the house and father to Ruslaan, who was keen to learn how to play the guitar.

Franco Columbu, the Italian bodybuilding prodigy, and the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger forged a close friendship. The two dealt with everything after meeting in 1965, sticking by one another through good times and bad. But they each brought unique personalities to the table.
If boxing was Columbu’s background, then soccer was Schwarzenegger’s. In spite of this, their shared love of ‘bodybuilding’ served as the foundation for their friendship. Here’s an intriguing anecdote, though: Columbu trained Schwarzenegger’s fellow Hollywood veteran actor, Sylvester Stallone, for the film Rocky II.
Sylvester Stallone in Rocky films
When Franco challenged Stallone to a bench press competition, the actor accepted, but not before the latter tore his pec off the bone. This is where things got tricky. The injury happened 1.5 months before Stallone was supposed to appear and helm the Rocky sequel.
Well, you must hear him discuss how he turned the tide of events!

The man came over from Austria having served in the army, claimed the Mr. Olympia title a full seven times, then launched one of the most successful Hollywood careers in the history of the industry, before becoming governor of California and finding time to marry a Kennedy in the process. But surely what he's really concerned with are his Rotten Tomato scores.
Having recently starred in his own Netflix series, "Fubar," recounted his remarkable life in the streamer's "Arnold" documentary, and whipped Jake from State Farm into shape for a Super Bowl commercial, the Austrian Oak is now gearing up for his Christmas comedy with "Reacher" star Alan Ritchson. But between all this stuff, you've got to imagine that Arnie was eager to hurry back to his trailer and pore over the pages of Rt, desperately scouring for the latest...

The Story: A New York cop is unwillingly recruited as an assassin for a top-secret government agency, Cure. Re-christened Remo Williams (Fred Ward), he’s sent on the trail of an unscrupulous weapons dealer, but first must survive his training with Chiun (Joel Grey) master of Sinanju.
The Players: Starring: Fred Ward, Joel Grey, Kate Mulgrew & Wilford Brimley. Music by Craig Safan. Directed by Guy Hamilton.
The History: The Adventure Begins…and ends, with this, the lone big-screen adventure of Remo Williams, the veteran of well over a hundred pulp novels (published as “The Destroyer” series – written by Warren Murphy & Richard Sapir). This was an attempt by Dick Clark (of all people) and the then-fledgling Orion Pictures to launch their own James Bond-style series of adventures. While people may laugh at the attempt now, they definitely had reason to think this could work, with the brain trust at Orion the...
