Bob Yerkes, the Hollywood stunt performer known for his work in the Star Wars and Back to the Future franchises, has died. He was 92.

The former acrobat died Tuesday morning at his Northridge, California home, according to a statement shared by his fellow stunt performer Darlene Williams Bostock, who grew up training with Yerkes.

“I am horribly sad to hear that my mentor and stunt coach Bob Yerkes passed away this morning in Northridge, California,” announced Bostock in a Facebook post. “Bobby opened the door to his home and backyard to everyone that either needed a place to stay or to train for a job. … I would not have had a career in stunts without Bob Yerkes.”

She added in part, “There will never be another Bob Yerkes! My heart is broken. I am proud and honored to have known him. He was a true legend!”

Bob Yerkes, the acrobatic stunt performer who slid down a clock tower cable for Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future and hung around the Statue of Liberty under repair for Fred Ward in Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, has died. He was 92.

Yerkes died Tuesday of natural causes in Northridge, Darlene Ava Williams, a stunt performer and one of his many mentees, announced.

The amiable Yerkes, who started out in the circus and was a skilled trapeze aerialist and tightrope walker, also plummeted from a helicopter through a roof in Breakout (1975), starring Charles Bronson.

“I was getting ready for the stunt and the guy said, ‘Break a Leg!,” and I broke them both,” he recalled in a 2017 interview. He said he also broke legs while working on Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Her Alibi (1989), but, in a career that spanned eight decades, that was the extent of his serious injuries.

"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is one of the best teen movies of all time, but it also (perhaps purposely) tells its story from a very privileged point-of-view. I adore the John Hughes classic, yet the last few times I've watched it, I've been struck by how terribly Ferris (Matthew Broderick) treats the customer service workers he meets throughout the film. It's all a part of his schtick; to craft the perfect day off, he has to get access to all sorts of fun stuff, and the quickest way to do that is by putting on a haughty, rich-white guy persona that he probably learned from his dad.

Filmmaker Mike Flanagan has written some dark, disturbing endings in his career… but we shouldn’t expect to see much of that from him in the future. During a recent interview with actress Katee Sackhoff for the Sackhoff Show podcast, Flanagan explained why he’s done with bleak, hopeless endings.

Life moves pretty fast. It moves a lot slower when you’re watching the painfully terrible intro of the equally terrible Ferris Bueller sitcom.

On paper, you can see why Paramount was eager to turn their 1986 hit teen comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off into an at least watchable sitcom centered around the title character. After all, Matthew Broderick’s performance as the devilishly charming delinquent who spends a sick day enjoying all the most iconic sights and sounds of Chicago perfectly captured a cultural moment during director John Hughes’ legendary run of classic teen movies set and shot in and around the Windy City.

However, the turd that Paramount Television squeezed out in 1990 was neither watchable nor iconic — in fact, the ABC show Ferris Bueller was so bad and so unpopular that the network ended up canceling the abomination in the middle of its first season.

The upcoming film The Life of Chuck is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. That’s the question on the mind of eagle-eyed fans of the upcoming Warner Bros. film’s trailer, who noticed a glimpse of the actor on a headstone in a funeral scene. But a rep for Jones confirms to The Hollywood Reporter that the actor does not appear in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

The biggest night in the film industry, the Academy Awards, is not too far off at this point, with preliminary voting already underway, and the official nominations being announced in just one week. Apple TV+ rarely licenses content, but a roster of 51 new, non-Apple-original movies are coming to the service, the streamer announced Friday.

The so-called “Great Movies special collection” features a variety of films across genres, including old classics and new award winners.

Some of the films in the collection include Mean Girls (2004), Mad Max: Fury Road, Titanic, The Wolf of Wall Street, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Accountant, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and The Proposal.

Paramount Pictures’ feature spinoff of 1980s touchstone Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is revving up.

The studio has set David Katzenberg to direct the follow-up movie Sam and Victor’s Day Off, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Taking place on a single day, the film centers on the two titular valets who borrow the Ferrari belonging to the father of Alan Ruck’s character, Cameron Frye, in John Hughes’ original 1986 film.

Katzenberg is known for his work as director and executive producer of ABC’s The Goldbergs, along with producing Warner Bros.’ hit 2017 film It. His other directing credits include the series Average Joe, 911: Lone Star, Young Rock and The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.

It was that gift which allowed him to transition from moonlighting as a joke writer for standups like Rodney Dangerfield to writing proper comedy films outright—and sometimes lacing them with an emotional sentimentality that, if not universally true, almost always felt authentic. During an interview last week, Tom Hiddleston (Loki) confirmed that his work on the film The Life of Chuck – the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – was complete. Based on the short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds, The Life of Chuck consists of three separate stories linked to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.

Hiddleston is playing Chuck, with Mark Hamill (Star Wars) playing a character named Albie.

Kicking October to the curb and bringing in some November goodness is a fresh slate of new content headed to Paramount Global’s streamer Paramount+, including the sequel to the hit 1997 film “Good Burger.”

Succession actor Alan Ruck was involved in a two-car accident that ended up leading his pickup truck to crash into a pizza place.

CCTV footage showed that Ruck’s Rivian truck rear-ended a car stopped at a traffic signal and hit another vehicle before driving into Raffallo’s Pizza shop in Hollywood. The incident occurred at around 9:25 p.m. on Wednesday.

Ruck remained at the scene following the accident.

Despite the significant damage, only one person was later hospitalized with injuries that weren’t considered serious.

While the cause of the crash is still under investigation, Los Angeles Police Department officials do not believe drugs or alcohol had any role in the crash.

Actor Alan Ruck was reportedly involved in a four-vehicle collision in Hollywood that resulted in his truck crashing into a pizzeria. The vehicular accident involving Ruck, 67, occurred around 9 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time) at Raffallo’s Pizza near the intersection of La Brea Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, according to TMZ, who was first to report the news of Ruck’s involvement.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed the details of the crash to ‘People’ magazine, but could not identify Ruck as one of the drivers.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson, ambulances were called to the scene in Hollywood after the collision. They confirmed a 40-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were involved.
