In South Korea, women have been voicing out loud through activist movements such as #EscapeTheCorset, #MeToo, #MyLifeIsNotYourPorn, and 4B. The first feminist political party, the Women’s Party, has also been recently formed to fight for more influence in the development of the deeply patriarchal and conservative Korean society.
More prominent and realistic images of women have also appeared in Korean cinema. A growing number of women filmmakers are creating courageous and captivating works to make their views be seen and heard, and #SendingMySpirit also encourages people to buy tickets for films with greater female involvement. Proudly presented by the Hong Kong Arts Centre, the Dmz International Documentary Film Festival and the Seoul Independent Film Festival, the Women Direct. Ronald L. Schwary, Oscar-winning producer of Robert Redford’s 1980 drama “Ordinary People,” died on July 2 at age 76, his family announced.
He was forced into retirement in 2015 due to a rare neurological autonomic disorder that he had been struggling with. His death was due to complications of his disorder. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his sons.

Ronald Schwary, who won an Oscar as the producer of Ordinary People and whose other major film successes include A Soldier’s Story, Absence of Malice, Scent of a Woman and Tootsie, has died. He was 76. He passed away Thursday in West Hollywood, according to his sons.
No cause of death was provided, but reports indicate Schwary had struggled with a rare neurological autonomic disorder.
Schwary was the producer on six Sydney Pollack-directed films: The Electric Horseman (1979) and Havana (1990), with Robert Redford; Absence of Malice (1981), starring Paul Newman; Best Picture nominee Tootsie (1982), with Dustin Hoffman; Sabrina (1995), featuring Harrison Ford, and Random Hearts (1999), also starring Ford.
Even though the films were nominated for Best Picture, Schwary did not receive a nomination for either Tootsie or Scent of a Woman or because he was not credited as “Producer.”
On Tootsie, there was a dispute between Columbia and the production regarding the number of credited producers.

In the very earliest days of television in the 1940s and early 1950s, our country was still reeling from World War II. As time has marched on, we have waged wars in Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East. Throughout these years, our small screens have brought us many different types of military men and women who have represented the heroes of these and other battles.
One of the earliest successful television series was the Emmy-winning sitcom “You’ll Never Get Rich,” later retitled “The Phil Silvers Show,” which brought us the iconic Sgt. Bilko. Other successful comedies have followed, including “McHale’s Navy,” “Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.,” “Major Dad” and the most successful and longest-running “M*A*S*H,” which gifted us a number of memorable characters from the 4077th.

When Jason Isbell asks if he’s the “last of my kind” in his wistful song of the same name, it’s hard not to wonder if the answer is “yes.” It was particularly resonant when he played The Nashville Sound track mid-set on Wednesday night, during the third show of his six-night 2018 residency at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium — a performance that illuminated Isbell as, if not the last of a breed, then certainly as the most rare and complex of artists.

Busan International Film Festival (Biff) has announced 22 projects to receive Asian Cinema Fund support this year, including Park Kyoung Tae’s Ne Me Quitte Pas and Venice Biennale College project Hotel Salvation.
“Although this year’s number of submissions went down, in comparison, we had a lot of good documentary projects from Korea. We also have our first project from Bhutan selected for post-production support,” said Acf director Hong Hyosook.
Park previously co-directed, with Kim Dong-ryeong, the documentary Tour Of Duty, also an earlier Acf recipient that went on to win the Jury’s Special Prize at the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival in 2013.

Tour of Duty: Boorman Returns to Autobiographical Elements
Now at 82 years of age, British auteur John Boorman returns with Queen and Country his first feature since 2006. It is a follow-up to one of the director’s most cherished titles, Hope and Glory (1987), which documents war-torn England through the eyes of a child as his family survives the blitz. Though it’s been nearly thirty years, Boorman sets this follow-up chapter only nine years in the future, leaving behind the horrors of WWII for the Cold War ethics of the Korean conflict. Much like he managed with the film’s predecessor, Boorman achieves success by making the film a personal, insular story about a small group of characters’ experiences. The powerful emotional possibilities of the child’s perspective is left behind, now a young man discovering who he wants to be and what values he wishes to cherish. This makes for a more reserved,...

Exclusive: Producers Gina G Goff of Goff Productions and Rene Sheridan are at the Afm in talks with financiers and sales agents on horror-thriller The Black Album.
Writer-director Larry Brand’s story is based on the mythology around heavy metal bands that allegedly laced their albums with backwards Satanic lyrics.
Carlton Holder adapts the screenplay from his novel The Black Album: A Hollywood Horror Story.
“The film is all about cross-promotion of music and will have an extensive, unique and a heavy marketing campaign to interest, promote, scare and invest the movie audience before they enter the movie theatre,” said Goff.
Brand is currently in post production on Beyond Glory: Tour Of Duty starring Stephen Lang.

China Beach
Created by William Broyles, Jr. and John Sacret Young
April 27, 1988 – July 22, 199, ABC
I never understood why more often than not, on lists of the greatest TV shows, greatest characters, or greatest anything TV connected, poor China Beach seems to get no love. How can a critically acclaimed show about an historic event so unforgettable be so often forgotten? With the cast recently reuniting for the first time in 25 years, there’s no better time to look back at one of my favorite series of all time. Hopefully, I’ll get the recently released box set for Christmas (and be able to finally get rid of that bootleg first season I’ve had for years).
I wasn’t a fan at first. When it originally aired, I was about 14 and initially thought ‘Who wants to watch a show about a war?’ A long, plodding hour-long drama on late night...

If you grew up with the Nes, you probably had a copy of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, or at least knew someone who did. And as such, you also probably have fond memories of climbing the ranks, defeating the likes of King Hippo, Piston Honda, and Mr. Sandman. Only to have Iron Mike himself hand you defeat over, and over, and over again.
Figuring out and then dealing with Tyson's devastating right hook was not easy, something that only someone with comparable skills would be able to handle, or one might assume. Which begs the question: how would the real Mike Tyson fare against his digital counterpart? The answer: apparently not very well, considering how he can even beat Glass Joe, the very first guy in the game and a total pushover.
Polygon recently highlighted a brief on the street encounter between Tyson and someone at TMZ,...
