The lead role in blockbuster spy action film “Pathaan” was the fulfilment of a promise made by producer Aditya Chopra 30 years ago, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has revealed.
“Pathaan” is produced by Yash Raj Films (Yrf), founded by the late Yash Chopra, of which Aditya Chopra is now the head.
In 1993, Khan was shooting Yrf’s “Darr,” in which he played the antagonist. “One day, it was Adi’s [Aditya Chopra] birthday, and he asked me if I will do a film and I said ‘I would love to do it,’ and then he narrated something where I would be an action hero,” Khan said in a statement. “Because I was doing ‘Darr’ as well, I also got excited about it. Then three-four years later, he called and said I am coming to narrate an action film. I really wanted to play an action hero because no one was offering me that genre.

Actor Aditya Seal, who will be seen playing nemesis to actor Tiger Shroff's character in "Student Of The Year 2", says he was not hesitant to play a negative role as he has always found playing grey shades interesting.
"I have always found playing a character with grey shades very interesting and I have grown up watching films like 'Darr', 'Baazigar' and 'Anjaam', where the antagonist is very human. He is always reacting. There is always a trigger point to his reaction. He is always reacting to some internal or external stimulus and not just aimlessly chopping people down," Aditya told Ians in an e-mail interview.
The 31-year-old is kicked about his big break with a Dharma Productions film.
"Quite honestly, it's the 'pinch me' kind of a feeling. It's like hitting the jackpot. It doesn't happen that often and it doesn't happen to everyone,...

A poster for Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film “Raees,” on which the actor glowers behind kohl-rimmed eyes, features the phrase “Apna time shuru”: “My time begins.” It could very well be a slogan for where Khan’s own career stands today, even as 2017 marks his 25th year in the movies.
Portraying antagonist Raees Aslam — believed to be loosely based on real-life gangster Abdul Latif (a rumor that the filmmakers have denied) — is, in a way, coming full circle. In the early 1990s, after stints in theater and television, Khan got a taste of big-screen success in what Bollywood refers to as “negative roles”: a vendetta-fueled murderer in “Baazigar,” love-struck stalkers in both “Darr” and “Anjaam.” These were characters that fellow young actors at the time would have considered professional suicide. For Khan, they were a foot further into the door of a world he had until then been an outsider to.

For years we loved Bollywood king Shah Rukh Khan's inimitable style of romancing on-screen or charming with his flattering words or wooing women with his impeccable style in copious romantic flicks. And we were pretty habitual seeing him that way till we came across his lately released Raees teaser.
Right from the opening shot with his voiceover to the introduction of his character to the way he carries himself throughout the teaser, Shah Rukh Khan is totally a revelation! Though we have seen superstar essaying negative roles in the beginning of his career (Baazighar, Darr, and Anjaam), Raees seems to be a completely different outing for Srk. Not only his look (sporting surma in eyes, pathani, a full grown stubble and lots of attitude), even the kind of role Shah Rukh plays in the film is never-seen before one.

Mumbai, Dec 9: Having done all out negative roles at the start of his career in films like "Darr", "Anjaam" and "Baazigar" and making it big, superstar Shah Rukh Khan is keen to revisit negative roles again.
When asked about turning anti-hero again, Shah Rukh said: "Yes, I am all for it, I would like to do it. Though I have been told many a time not to do it because children like me. But it's a role and yes, I would like to do it."
Shah Rukh, however, says that it may not enter the Rs.100 crore or Rs.200 crore clubs.
"It may not be commercially very befitting, it may not enter the clubs. But as an actor, I would like.

Memory lane has a special place for our firsts. Each of them represents an age, an era and an experience. From my first tooth to my first bruise, my first day at school to my first belly flop into the pool, they are all there. Some are protected by a forgetful mind but they are there. They make the identity we create in life. For example, a part of my identity is Bollyspice. Like all the writers here at Bollyspice. How does this link to the title? Well, Bollywood’s love affair with first loves and the release of Bombay Talkies is what prompted the title of this piece actually. You see, it’s just like our writer Pooja Rao said in her review of Bombay Talkies, cinema doesn’t just affect the lives of those involved, it affects its audience too. So the writers at Bollyspice bring to you our Pehla Nasha,...

They say dreams maketh a man. If one person has adequately proved the idiom to be totally correct, it is Shah Rukh Khan. From a nobody in the past to possibly the most recognizable face of Bollywood today, he has certainly come a long way. The story of his accession to the throne of Bollwyood has been discussed million times and is well-known. What is still intriguing is the manner in which he has influenced the face of Hindi Film Industry in a career spanning two decades. His contribution to the Indian cinema is what must be acknowledged on his birthday.
In a post-liberated India high on economic reforms, emerged an actor who could portray obsession with utter conviction and style. This contrasted with the orthodox presentation of heroes in Hindi movies in the past. It broke the set rules. Suddenly the negative attribute of a lead actor became the flavor of the season.

Pran Kishan Sikand
Pran Kishan Sikand dreamt of becoming a professional photographer. Little did he know that a measly, humble ‘paan’ (betel leaf) would change his life and set him on his destined path. It was 1939 or thereabouts. Pran was at a ‘paan’ shop at Lahore, enjoying a munch with his friends when a stranger approached him and asked whether he wanted to act in films. Pran was amused and asked his name. Stranger introduced himself as Muhammad Walli, a renowned film maker in the flourishing film district of Lahore. He said he was making a Punjabi film and Pran looked a perfect fit for the role of a villain in the film. Pran just brushed him off. Walli kept insisting that he pay a visit to the studio, and pushed a piece of paper with his address into Pran’s hands. The film was Yamla Jat (1940), a runaway hit that year.
