Starz has announced the movie and TV titles that will be available on the service in December. The Starz December 2024 schedule includes new episodes of Outlander Season 7 Part 2 all month long.

On the film front, Borderlands, Renfield, The Fabelmans, Midas, Polite Society, and several other notable titles will be joining the Starz app this month. This month, the app will feature a special collection, “Franchise Frenzy,” featuring titles from The Bourne series, The Chronicles of Riddick, Blair Witch, Divergent, and Ghostbusters, among others.

To get you through the holidays, Starz has a thrilling week of action-packed titles that are more naughty than nice, including The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Jurassic World Dominion: Extended Version, the Divergent trilogy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Cocaine Bear, and more.

Nicholas Pryor, the busy character actor who portrayed Tom Cruise’s father in Risky Business and Kathleen Robertson’s dad on Beverly Hills, 90210 during a career that spanned seven decades, has died. He was 89.

Pryor died Monday of cancer at his home in Wilmington, North Carolina, his wife, actress Christine Belford, told The Hollywood Reporter.

In a note to be delivered to THR after his death, he wrote: “Nicholas Pryor was enormously grateful to have been, for nearly 70 years, a working actor.”

From 1997-2002, Pryor played the former spy Victor Collins on the General Hospital spinoff Port Charles, culminating a long career in daytime soap operas that included stints on The Secret Storm, The Edge of Night, Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, All My Children and Another World.

The veteran actor is taking issue with the famed director’s apparent comments about his celebrity status.

In a new GQ cover interview, along with his upcoming Wolfs co-star Brad Pitt, the subject of Tarantino came up and Clooney said, “Quentin said some shit about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him. He did some interview where he was naming movie stars, and he was talking about [Pitt] and somebody else, and then this [interviewer] goes, ‘Well, what about George?’ He goes, ‘He’s not a movie star.’ And then he literally said something like, ‘Name me a movie since the millennium.'”

Production, sales and distribution banner Signature Entertainment has acquired U.K. and Irish rights to “Slingshot,” the upcoming psychological sci-fi thriller starring Laurence Fishburne and Casey Affleck, from WME Independent.

The film — which follows an astronaut struggling to maintain his grip on reality while aboard a possibly fatally comprised mission to Saturn’s moon Titan — was directed by Mikael Håfström (“Evil”) from a script by Nathan Parker (“Moon”) and R. “Cocaine Bear” is very loosely based on a true-life crime story that occurred in the forests of America in 1985. A 175-pound American black bear was found dead in northern Georgia having overdosed on cocaine. The drugs were dropped out of a plane by smugglers in Tennessee, and the unlucky bear stumbled upon the ill-gotten goods, sampled the product and promptly dropped dead. The so-called “cocaine bear,” also known as “Pablo Eskobear,” was stuffed and displayed at a mall in Kentucky.

In another galaxy far, far away, Taron Egerton would have starred as a young Han Solo.

The “Black Bird” actor revealed during the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast (via The Independent) that he auditioned for and ultimately turned down leading the “Star Wars” 2018 prequel film, “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

“I’ll be honest, I got on the Falcon,” Egerton explained, referencing the Millennium Falcon. “I was with Chewie. I was in the full costume. I felt like I got there, I did it, I lived it.”

But something still felt off about playing the younger version of the beloved hero that Harrison Ford made famous.

“It just felt to me like I didn’t feel…like you know when we mentioned earlier, that thing when I read the ‘Kingsman’ script and I was like, ‘This is…I’ve got to do this. This is my part,'” Egerton admitted. “I just didn’t feel it.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Licorice Pizza” is well into its running time when Bradley Cooper literally stomps into the frame and promptly takes over the entire movie. “Do you know how I am?” a wired Cooper as Peters asks a stunned Gary (newcomer Cooper Hoffman) as the youngster is set to deliver a waterbed to Peters’ home. “Do you know who my girlfriend is?” When Gary says he does, it sets off a quick and hilarious back and forth reminiscent of “Who’s on first?” or the “would that it were so simple” scene from “Hail Caesar!” Unfortunately for Gary and his friend Alana (fellow newcomer Alana Haim), things only get more fraught from there. The Berlin Film Festival has announced Juliette Binoche will serve as the jury president for the main competition at the 2019 event. Berlinale will celebrate its 69th year in 2019. Binoche has a long history with the Berlin Film Festival, with films such as “The Night Is Young” screening in competition, and others like “The Lovers on the Bridge” playing such sidebars as the Forum section. The actress won the Berlinale Silver Bear for Best Actress, as well as an Oscar, for her role in Anthony Minghella’s “The English Patient” in 1997.

“It means the world to me!” Binoche said in a statement, calling the role of jury president a “tremendous honor.” “I’m looking forward to this special rendezvous with the entire jury and will embrace my task with joy and care.”

Lone Scherfig’s “The Kindness of Strangers” will open the 2019 Berlin Film Festival. It’s a familiar venue for the veteran filmmaker, who brought her eventual Oscar-nominated “An Education” to the Berlinale back in 2009.

Her most recent work stars Zoe Kazan and Tahar Rahim as two New Yorkers who help each other through a trying time against the backdrop of a Russian restaurant. The film’s ensemble also includes Andrea Riseborough, Bill Nighy, Jay Baruchel, and Caleb Landry Jones.

The film is Scherfig’s first in three years, after the Gemma Arterton-led WWII movie “Their Finest.” That film did not end up making a Berlin stop, but Scherfig had other titles play the festival, even before “An Education.” Her first feature “The Birthday Club” played as part of the 1990 festival, while her Maeve Binchy adaptation “Italian for Beginners” took home a Silver Bear jury prize a decade later.

The Coen brothers’ omnibus Western, “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs,” has some fairly grim stretches, but before it goes there, the first segment has a few moments of pure musical-comedy exhilaration. Singer-songwriter Gillian Welch describes the assignment, as it came in to her and partner David Rawlings from the Coens. “It was a pretty straightforward thing: ‘Well, we need a song for when two singing cowboys gun it out, and then they have to do a duet with one of ‘em dead. You think you can do that?’ ‘Yeah, I think we can do that’,” she laughs.

At last year’s CinemaCon, it was all about the jaw-dropping footage from Blade Runner 2049 which Sony had foreign on, but this year the Culver City lot started with the funny, specifically Holmes & Watson star Will Ferrell and built to star-studded end session that included Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams from Venom and Quentin Tarantino and Leonardo DiCaprio chatting about their next collaboration Once Upon a Time in Hollywood due out Aug. 9, 2019.

The studio’s emphasis to its exhibition partners was “a diverse slate with cutting edge filmmakers,” said Sony worldwide marketing and distribution president Josh Greenstein, “that’s our passion getting people off the couch and into your movie theaters.”

Greenstein took a moment to emphasize to those exhibs in the room the importance to “draw on data in digital platforms to drive ticket sales,” said the exec, “it’s crucial for our mutual success.”

The gravitational pull that exists between great directors and great cinematographers is natural. Many of the best pairings throughout film history have been project based, with the director or producer picking a cinematographer to achieve a specific look for a particular film. There’s a difference between providing a talented cinematographer with the perfect platform to apply their skills and a director-cinematographer collaboration that elevates the work of both artists, regardless of material.

This list is less about identifying the best looking films of the era – although many are here – and more about celebrating collaborations that have allowed many of the best filmmakers working today to fully express themselves on the big screen.

A struggling couple, Scott and Karen, pack up their troubled young daughter and head to a picturesque lake house to reconnect and put their problems behind them. As Emma spends time with her new nanny, the little girl begins fixating on an imaginary friend she calls the Fish Man. Karen’s fear of the strange man down the beach, Emma’s fear of the water and her recurring sleepwalking continue to raise tensions in the house and drive a wedge between Scott and Karen until one night Emma disappears. It's no problem making a case for Matt Reeves' War for the Planet of the Apes as both an intimate, epic adventure and one of the best movies of the summer. The Edinburgh International Film Festival has revealed a host of movies with Scottish connections set to play at its 70th anniversary edition.

Scottish director Peter Mackie Burns will bring his debut Daphne, which stars Emily Beecham (Hail Caesar) and Geraldine James (Sherlock Holmes), while Scottish actress Freya Mavor (Sunshine On Leith) stars in the world premiere of comedy-drama Modern Life Is Rubbish.

Filmmaker Justin Edgar also returns to the Eiff with The Marker, starring veteran Scottish actor John Hannah; while The Last Photograph, starring Danny Huston, revolves around the Lockerbie disaster.

Bong Joon Ho’s latest offering Okja, starring Eiff honorary patron Tilda Swinton, will also screen and there will also be showcases of local icons Sean Connery and Robbie Coltrane.
