Netflix has unveiled a deep slate of originals out of Argentina including an animated adaptation of iconic comic strip Mafalda from Oscar-winning director Juan José Campanella. Another adaptation is El Eternauta, based on the graphic novel of the same name. There will also be a local version of dating series Love is Blind and a three-part doc about Argentine soccer star Ángel Di María.

The streamer’s Made In Argentina slate was presented at an event in Buenos Aires and comprised a whopping 19 projects. The standout titles included Mafalda, which has iconic status in Argentina where it ran as a comic strip in various newspapers. Created by cartoonist Quino, it follows the titular little girl and her family and friends.

Campanella, who helmed the Oscar-winning The Secret In Their Eyes (Best Foreign Language Film), will be director, screenwriter and showrunner. Mundoloco CGI, the animation studio he co-founded, is producing the series.

Buenos Aires – Mafalda, the beloved and wily six-year-old drawn into acclaim by celebrated Argentine artist Quino, will bring her socially-conscious hijinks to the screen. News of the adaptation, which will be ushered in by Oscar-winner Juan José Campanella, was announced Monday evening as Netflix unveiled their 2024 ‘Made in Argentina’ slate to a spirited crowd of industry and media professionals.

Campanella will direct, produce and showrun the project, while Gastón Gorali co-pens and acts as general producer of the Netflix Original series and Sergio Fernández boards as production director. Netflix and Campanella and Gorali’s Mundoloco CGI, the studio behind “Metegol,” the largest Latin American animated production to date, produce.

“Mafalda and her friends not only made me laugh a lot, but from time to time, they sent me to the dictionary. And each new word I learned came with the reward of a new laugh,” Campanella revealed in a July statement.

Lifetime has added Girl in the Shed: The Kidnapping of Abby Hernandez, starring Ben Savage, Lindsay Navarro, and Erica Durance, to its February movie release line-up.

Executive produced by Hernandez, the project tells the real-life story of her abduction at the age of 14 and how she survived against all odds. It serves as the network’s latest installment of the “Girls In” series which also includes, Girl in the Basement, Girl in the Bunker, and Girl in the Box.

All February films, beginning on the 5th, will roll out on Saturdays at 8 p.m. A sneak preview of the titles listed below will be available via Lifetime’s VOD beginning Dec. 26.

“Well, this may seem like déjà vu…” wrote filmmaker Tamara Saviano on her Facebook page this week, alerting friends that her documentary about musician Guy Clark, “Without Getting Killed or Caught” was being announced Thursday as premiering at this year’s South By Southwest Film Festival… just as it was announced for last year. The good news is, this year’s SXSW, being virtual, can’t get canceled (at least short of dire societal circumstances even worse than a pandemic), so the doc is virtually certain to meet its premiere date this time.

Sterling Archer has returned to the land of the living…finally.

After originally being scheduled for a May 2020 release, Archer season 11 was pulled from the calendar due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now, the Fxx series officially made its debut on Sept. 16. The season will feature eight episodes. In a first for the show, episodes will be available the next day on FX on Hulu.

Archer appears to be back in the saddle and no worse for wear, aside from the use of a very cool tactical cane. It even seems as though the show has returned to Archer’s original offices…though presumably it won’t have the same “Isis” name. Keep up with everything we know about Archer season 11 here!

NBC is the first broadcast network to unveil its schedule for the 2016-17 TV season, and the big news on the returning-show front is the Peacock’s decision to shift Blindspot from Monday-at-10 to Wednesdays-at-8, where it will fill the void left by the just-cancelled Mysteries of Laura. Replacing Blindspot in the coveted post-Voice perch will be Eric Kripke and Shawn Ryan’s new sci-fi drama Timeless.

Sometimes in films, there are truly great moments. There are amazing fight scenes in action movies, there are memorable one-liners in comedies, and there are terrifying sequences in horror. There are car chases. There are even some special motorbike chases. But one moment which stands out in any film is the impromptu music scene.

We see music scenes quite a lot in film, but mostly they fit in to the flow of the storyline, or form part of the narrative. If we’re watching a musical, then it can only be expected that there will be a music scene. If we’re watching a light hearted romantic comedy, music scenes often transition seamlessly within the plot. But some scenes break the mould. We don’t expect to see the main character break into song, or for a guitar to be produced from nowhere. Unexpected Jazz concerts or drum solos take us by pleasant surprise.

Plus, is Alec really innocent after all? This is madness.

The twins’ love lives got even more complicated on the Jan. 15 episode of The Lying Game, as Emma (Alexandra Chando) gave Sutton her blessing to pursue Ethan (Blair Redford).
