The film takes place in suburban California. It may also take place in New Jersey, as in a scene where Matilda is testing her powers at home, a frame on the wall is labeled Atlantic City, and when lunchboxes shoot out of cubbyholes after tormenting Trunchbull, one is labeled "Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ".
No one has answered this question yet.
Highly doubtful. If anything, Trunchbull was just alluring to the old expression "blood, sweat and tears", meaning a lot of effort and suffering went into making something. But, knowing her nature, she would say something that sounds graphic and disgusting to a young boy before making him eat something.
