“Dune: Part Two,” “Saturday Night,” “Wicked,” “The Wild Robot,” “Emilia Pérez” and “The Blue Angels” won the feature-film awards at the Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Mpse Golden Reel Awards, which were presented on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles.

“Dune: Part Two” won in the Feature Effects/Foley category, the Golden Reel category that corresponds most closely to the Academy Award for Best Sound. “Saturday Night” won in the Feature Dialogue/Adr category, “Wicked” for music editing, “The Wild Robot” for animated feature, “The Blue Angels” for documentary feature and “Emilia Pérez” for international feature.

“Dune,” “Wicked,” “The Wild Robot” and “Emilia Pérez” are all nominated for the Best Sound Oscar, which covers both sound editing and sound mixing. Buenos Aires-based FilmSharks has pacted with TelevisaUnivision-affiliated Videocine to handle the international sales on horror pic “Don’t Leave the Kids Alone” by Emilio Portes.

Among the leading distribution and production companies in Mexico, Videocine has slated the high concept pic’s theatrical release for the second quarter of this year, said FilmSharks CEO-founder Guido Rud, who announced the deal at Berlinale’s EFM, among other pacts. Videocine retains North and South American rights.

“We are thrilled to continue collaborating with Videocine’s incredible team after so many years,” said Rud who has handled other Videocine horror titles such as “Karem, the Possession,” “Come Play with Me” and “El habitante.”

“We’ve long been admirers of the director’s previous work,” he noted, adding: “’Don’t Leave the Kids Alone’ is a masterfully crafted gem in its genre, with a narrative scope that rivals the best work of top-tier U.

In an interview on the SkipIntro podcast, Diaz shared: “The industry is so different. I mean, I definitely have to say that MeToo changed everything. You walk on to the set and it is different. There was always just like that one guy, you know, on set, that you were like, ‘God, here he comes again’.

It’s a slasher movie that is just as much a romantic comedy and vice versa. It’s not trying to be either of these things, it just is. Stars Mason Gooding and Olivia Holt have genuine chemistry, so when their meet-cute is interrupted by the Heart Eyes Killer, a serial murderer who has been stalking couples for years, you’re rooting for their continued survival, not the least of which because you want to see their relationship blossom. It’s odd to call a movie with this much arterial spray cute, but it really is cute.

Throughout Josh Ruben’s brilliant new Valentine’s Day slasher “Heart Eyes,” potential suspects and would-be victims reference real romantic comedies. “My Best Friend’s Wedding.” “Crazy Stupid Love.” “Pretty Woman.” Whatever your preferred chick flick — combined with the predator-prey mania of “My Bloody Valentine” (and just a touch of the goofiness in “Scream 6”) — that should be enough to compel you toward this giddy and graphic whodunit. It’s a freaky celebration that confirms holiday horror, if it ever left, is so back, and a standout achievement in the deceptively dense category of recent romances across genre comedy.

Silly, slick, and self-aware, the latest farce from the “Werewolves Within” director is laugh-out-loud funny and boasts pops of gore that earn the comparison to Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving.” Although the killer pilgrim movie from 2023 is more stomach-churning than Ruben’s film, this nutty blend of hyper-violence and one-liners is a dark comedic delicacy.

There is really nothing that is not completely predictable about Amazon Prime Video’s latest big budget romantic comedy, but with Reese Witherspoon back in the genre, and Will Ferrell doing what he does best, the chemistry is there, and so are some laughs, including a real Lol moment involving Ferrell and an uncooperative alligator that is a good reason comedies should probably best be seen with a crowd. Unfortunately, despite its stars and fan-friendly genre, this one is straight to streaming. At least in a Valentine’s Day period, You’re Cordially Invited qualifies more appropriately as a far more pleasant date movie than the horror and action Valentine’s movie the studios have planned this year. It isn’t going to make you forget My Best Friend’s Wedding, Bridesmaids and Father Of The Bride anytime soon, but it’ll do, even as the ‘R’ rating here seems a little harsh.

Weddings are such fertile ground for star-driven comedies it seems impossible to reinvent the sub-genre. A few manage to add a new spin to a setting that has been codified by the likes of “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “Wedding Crashers,” and “27 Dresses.” “Palm Springs” is an excellent recent example, for instance. “Anyone But You” was less creative but more financially successful thanks to the hottie pair of Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney.

Into this fray enters “You’re Cordially Invited,” written and directed by Nicholas Stoller, whose efforts include “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Neighbors.” Destined for streaming on Prime Video (like so many comedies these days), this matrimonial romp stars Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon. While it’s often funny thanks to an excellent supporting cast, it also drags on too long, and comes to an unearned rom-com conclusion. The actress, who just made her onscreen comeback with Netflix’s Back in Action following a 10-year hiatus, recently shared with Empire magazine if this means she’s back for good.

“I don’t know how I view it. It’s hard to say,” she explained. “If I say it then it becomes this thing. I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes if I decide to. I’m not defining anything. I’m just open to whatever makes sense for me and my family at any given moment.”

Out of respect for those affected by the L.A. wildfires, the American Cinema Editors have announced that the 2025 Ace Eddie Awards has been postponed. A new date for the 75th annual ceremony will be announced soon.

The reimagined gala, which will still honor Wicked director Jon M. Chu with the Ace Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award, will “pivot from a black-tie, red carpet event to a ‘Come as You Are’ community-building fundraiser,” the organization announced. In addition, a portion of the ticket sales will be donated to Southern California fire relief.
