In the early 80's was created a Mazinger Z's statue at full size, in Mas del Plata, province of Tarragona, autonomous community of Cataluña, northeast of Spain. At 2015 it continues existing nowadays.
Based on the manga by 'Go Nagai', this series gave birth to the modern Japanese super-robot. These qualities include a samurai-like body, lasers and missiles shooting out of certain parts, attachments (weapons, jet wings, etc.), and the ever-popular shooting fists (Mazinger Z's "Rocket Punch"). This was also the first Japanese giant robot to be piloted by a human being (in this case, Koji Kabuto), whereas previous giant robots were remotely controlled by a hand-held device or watch (like Tetsujin nijûhachi-go (1963), Japan's first heroic robot, and its semi-remake, Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot (1967)).
The robot Mazinger Z (pronounced "Majingâ Zetto" in Japanese) is based on the Japanese "majin" (Japanese for "devil" or "evil spirit").
Episodes 1 and 32 features stock music from Toei Doga's anime film, Little Prince and the Eight Headed Dragon (1963), composed by famed composer Akira Ifukube.
Although Mazinger Z never made it to Mattel's "Shogun Warriors" collection in America, his "brother" Great Mazinger, the title robot of the sequel series Great Mazinger (1974), was featured in that collection (as "Mazinga" and then "Great Mazinga").
