Like The Bradys (1990), Providence was originally intended to be a short run mid-season filler. It proved so popular, additional episodes were ordered and it went on to become a successful series.
The City of Providence was founded by statesman Roger Williams in 1636.
Mike Farrell, who played Dr. James Hansen, is married to actress Shelley Fabares, who played Christine on the TV series "Coach".
