A group of thieves steal the tomb of Dracula from a London vault that has long been carefully guarded by Matthew Van Helsing (Christopher Plummer), an aging collector of antiques and grandson of Abraham Van Helsing, who (according to Matthew) was only a country doctor on whom Bram Stoker modeled his vampire hunter for his 1897 fictional novel Dracula. However, this resurrected Dracula (Gerard Butler) is real and has a special interest in Van Helsing's daughter Mary Heller (Justine Waddell), who is currently living in New Orleans. When the thieves' airplane en route to the Cayman Islands crashes in Bajou Celeste about 60 miles east of New Orleans, Van Helsing is already on the way, followed by his protegee Simon Sheppard (Jonny Lee Miller), both of whom are intent on saving Mary's soul.
Dracula, is a very good book by Bram Stoker, first published in 1898. But this Dracula, Dracula 2000 is based on a story and screenplay by American filmmaker Joel Soisson and Canadian filmmaker Patrick Lussier, who also directed the movie. They decided to bring Stoker's wonderful, imaginative novel into the 21st century. But somehow, instead, turned Transylvanian count Dracula, which Stoker based, albeit loosely, on Vlad Darkula, Tepes, the impaler, into the New Testament's Judas Iscariot ;-(. So yes, this film is based on a book, but not Stoker's original version, rather it's based on how these guys see stocker's work
(which is a very sorry way indeed). Or rather on how they don't understand it. The only good and worthy reasons to watch it, if you have nothing better to do, is to see the talented Gerry Butler and Christopher Plummer ply their trade. AFTER Dracula dies in the end of the film, Dracula 2000 was followed by two more turkeys from the same folks in (2003) and (2005). Which lack the only two reasons for watching the first one, namely Butler and Plummer. And the plot gets worse consecutively.
Note: Number 3 does have Rutger Hauer in the title role, but even his considerable talent can't save this film form the terrible script and plot inflicted on it. Thanks for reading.

Because he senses that Mary is like him, of the same blood. Abraham Van Helsing has been giving himself injections of Dracula's blood, filtered through leeches, to keep himself alive until he can find a way of killing Dracula forever. Abraham/Matthew fathered Mary while that blood coursed through his veins. In Dracula's eyes, Mary is the only living being to possess his blood by birth not by being bitten, and he wants her at his side, much to the jealousy of his three vampire "brides"—Solina (Jennifer Esposito), Valerie (Jeri Ryan), and Lucy (Vitamin C).
Yes. Dracula admits to Lucy that he has many names, although he doesn't specifically mention Vlad Țepeș (Vlad the Impaler). However, in a scene where Van Helsing is explaining Dracula's origins to Simon, some documents are shown, one of which details the bloodline of the historical Țepeș and another that shows a drawing of him.
Dracula spirits Mary from the cemetery and takes her to the church roof where he reveals to her the secret of his long existence. He is Judas Iscariot, the disciple who sold out Jesus to the Romans for 30 pieces of silver (hence, Dracula's dislike of silver). In atonement, Judas hung himself, but the rope broke and God scourged him with eternal life as a vampire. In a soliloquy in front of a lighted crucifix, Dracula cries out to God, "Now I drink the blood of your children. You made the world in your image. Now I make it in mine." Meanwhile, Lucy and Solina have captured Simon and tied him to a post in the rooftop greenhouse. Dracula tells Mary to feed from him. She bites Simon's neck and then, brandishing a sword, says that she would like his head, too. Just as Mary prepares to swing the sword, Lucy cries out, "She's faking!" In the melee that follows, Mary beheads Lucy and plunges the sword into Dracula's chest. While Dracula angrily tosses Mary around on the roof, Simon is able to behead Solina with a pruning shears. Claiming that Jesus will never forgive him, Dracula tosses Mary into the lighted crucifix, breaking the glass and snapping many cables. Mary wraps one of the cables around Dracula's neck and plunges them both over the rooftop. Mary falls to the ground, but Dracula hangs suspended by the cables. Just as the sun comes up and Dracula realizes he's going to die, he says to Mary, "I...release...you." He then looks up at Jesus' face on the crucifix and bursts into flames. Cut to a scene of Judas hanging from a tree and Mary saying in a voiceover: Long ago, Judas Iscariot tried to die for his sins, but he was denied. Today, the rope did not break, and he was burned in the first light of dawn. I am now the keeper of what remains. If the soul of Dracula still flickers in his ashes, I will keep it forever contained. For the first time in my life, I know who I am and where my future lies. I am Mary Van Helsing. I am my father's daughter, and nothing can ever take that away. In the final scene, Mary is standing on the rooftop where Dracula died. Lightning cracks, revealing her vampire eyes.
