Disney fans and physical media collectors, rejoice! This November will see the release of a gargantuan 100-film Blu-ray collection called the Disney Legacy Animated Film Collection. The catch? It’ll cost you $1,499.96.

The boxed set officially releases on Nov. 14, but preorders are currently available exclusively at Walmart’s website.

The collection is packaged as a three-volume set, featuring animated films from Disney, Walt Disney Animation and Pixar. But unlike other behemoth boxed sets, this one isn’t filled with lame direct-to video snoozers but beloved titles that includes classics and recent favorites. For example, the long-running list includes all the “Toy Story” movies, both of “The Incredibles,” “The Black Cauldron,” “Frankenweenie” and “Robin Hood.” It even includes films as recent as this...

If you’re a Disney fan who wants each and every animated movie they’ve ever made in one place, then you’re in luck. The Walt Disney Company announced the Disney Legacy Animated Film Collection, which features 100 animated movies from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Pixar on Blu-ray. The Walt Disney Company is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a hefty new Blu-ray box set containing 100 of its best animated films.

Officially titled the Disney Legacy Animated Film Collection, the box set comes with three volumes that open up to feature the original theatrical artwork for each film. Additionally, the package offers digital codes to all 100 movies, a certificate of authenticity, a lithograph from the upcoming feature Wish, and a collectible set of crystal Mickey Mouse ears engraved with “Disney 100.”

Since the Writers Guild of American and Screen Actors Guild are both still on strike, this year's Destination D23 convention down in Orlando, Florida didn't really have much of anything to showcase. Sure, the studio showed some footage from Disney's upcoming animated movie "Wish," and they announced that "Haunted Mansion" would be hitting Disney+ in October. But there was one other announcement that might be intriguing for anyone who is both a Disney fan and a physical media collector.

This fall, the House of Mouse will be releasing the Disney Legacy Animated Film Collection, which collects 100 animated films from both Disney and Pixar, reaching as far back as "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and up through this summer's "Elemental" from Pixar. Disney just announced the release of the Disney Legacy Animated Film Collection, featuring 100 animated films from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar. It’s packaged together as a three-volume set that unfolds into your own storybook.

The set is festooned with original poster designs and comes with digital codes for every movie, alongside a lithograph from Disney’s upcoming feature “Wish,” a certificate of authenticity and crystal Mickey Mouse ears engraved with the “Disney 100” logo. The limited-edition collection will be available on Nov. 14, with pre-orders beginning on Walmart.com on Sept. 18. It has a retail price of $1,500.

Disney's latest live-action riff on a classic is "Peter Pan & Wendy," a new adaptation of the classic "Peter Pan" story. Ever since first taking center stage in J.M. Barrie's 1904 stage play, Peter Pan and the magical land of Neverland have captured imaginations all over the world. The whimsical story with a hint of darkness has inspired plenty of movies, plays, and books over the years, each with a slightly different take on the Boy Who Never Grew Up. Who’s ready to go back to Never Land? Well, if this new episode is any indication, the answer may not be your intrepid co-hosts Gabe and Josh. While they still believe in faith and trust and pixie dust, they’re not totally on board with Return to Never Land, the theatrically released sequel to Peter Pan from 2002. In fact, they’re so not on board that, eventually, the conversation turned to a ranking of the films of Steven Spielberg. (Blame Hook for that.) And so, what begins as a frustrated discussion about why this DisneyToon Studios release falls so flat–hint: don’t set your whimsical story during World War II–ends as Josh wondering if Gabe’s lost his mind by ranking Hook over Jurassic Park. The Planes Blu-Ray has a release date, and you obviously want to get this one on your calendar, both because you know you want it, and because it’s smack dab in holiday buying season.

You may recall that during our Podcast review that covered Planes, I wasn’t all that favorable of it, but that was mostly because I was holding it to Pixar standards. I didn’t exactly dislike it, but you expect so much at this point that I hoped for more. Of course, the kids wanted nothing to do with my snooty, movie critic take on things, and loved it.

You might also recall that I wondered what direction they would take on the bonus features when this one came out, and it looks as though they are going a bit minimalist. A bad move, if you ask me, but it still looks like we have...

Most of Disney’s classic animated films are fairly timeless, and that includes Peter Pan. Its celebration of childhood and imagination with a mostly ambiguous time period of London in the 1900s prevented it from ever being dated, and setting the bulk of the adventure in a land where no one ever ages and a band of children exchange wits with a sinister but goofy pirate meant it never felt specifically like the product of any one given era. It’s a bit puzzling then that Disney felt a new installment in the Peter Pan saga was necessary, or why they decided to root that installment, Peter Pan: Return to Never Land, in World War II, but at least the end product was every bit as gleeful and fancy free as the original. David Lowery’s beautiful drama was covered more thoroughly in our theatrical review and opens tomorrow at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago (and we’ve already run Matt Fagerholm’s interview with the writer/director) but you can actually watch it now On Demand and so we wanted to included it in What to Watch.

Chicago – This week’s What to Watch on DVD, Blu-ray, Netflix, Amazon, On Demand, and more features one of the best programs on television, a great indie drama that had its Windy City premiere at the Chicago Critics Film Festival, something for the family, and two of the worst movies of 2013. Chad Hartigan’s perfect little drama, one of the best films at the first annual Ccff, may not have enough speed or tension for those addicted to Hollywood blockbusters but it is an entrancing drama about what people do for one another just through kindness and support. By presenting believable, lived-in characters, Hartigan creates a genuinehuman story. And the film is now available not just on DVD but Netflix streaming. Watch it. Then buy it.

Disney’s Planes is an action-packed 3D animated comedy adventure featuring Dusty (voice of Dane Cook), a plane with dreams of competing as a high-flying air racer. But Dusty’s not exactly built for racing—and he happens to be afraid of heights. So he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit.

Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.

Directed by aviation enthusiast Klay Hall (“King of the Hill,” “The Simpsons”), produced by Traci Balthazor-Flynn (“Return to Never Land,” “Bambi II,” “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning” as digital production manager), and executive produced by John Lasseter, the film showcases the crop duster’s desire to do more than what he was designed to do.

I’m surprised it took this long to come up with a concept like Wreck-it Ralph, the hilarious, arcade-game-hopping journey from Disney which was something of a Toy Story for a generation weaned on Nintendo and Sega. Wreck-it Ralph was a lot of fun (much more so than Brave which took home the Oscar last week). Wamg’s Jim Batts gave the film 4 ½ stars (read his review Here)

Now Wreck-it Ralph has been released on Blu-ray and, unsurprisingly, it looks spectacular. Sharpness consistently appears immaculate on the Br disc. Even the widest shots of the “Sugar Rush” racers zooming around the track demonstrated excellent clarity, as every aspect of Wreck-it Ralph looked detailed and distinctive. No issues with jagged edges or shimmering materialized, and I saw no edge haloes or processing concerns. Of course, print flaws weren’t a factor, as they stayed away from this unblemished presentation.

Directed by Tim Burton with the voices of Charlie Tahan (Charlie St. Cloud), Winona Ryder, Atticus Schaffer (The Middle), Catherine O'Hara (Where The Wild Things Are), Martin Short (The Santa Clause 3), Martin Landau (Ed Wood), and Robert Capron. Whenever you watch a Tim Burton movie, you can be sure to experience a unique universe full of interesting characters with dark and creepy tones. Frankenweenie has plenty of that Burton style, and the Blu-ray has a bunch of extra footage that will keep you entertained for hours after the film ends.

The top 10 overlooked songs are finally here! I believe these choices represent the term, “overlooked,” in that while they may not be the most famous or memorable, all ten feature quality rhythms, lyrics and – for the most part – inspirational messages. Yes, there is one villain song on the list, so I guess they all cannot be warmhearted. Nevertheless, I believe these are fantastic melodies.

#10 – Poor Unfortunate Souls (The Little Mermaid)

Ursula the Sea Witch, voiced with great gusto by Pat Carroll, reveals her most evil plans in this delightfully delicious ditty. Dealing with the devil – or in this case – a terrible octupus – is never a smart idea, but Ariel unfortunately chooses to sign the contract. The Little Mermaid is remembered for essentially reviving Disney animation, but the songs we often recall best and hear most often are the “I want” song of “Part of Your World” and calypso-sounding “Under the Sea.

Where else could Adam Sandler go up against the Powerpuff Girls? The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released the names of the films that qualify for this year's Best Animation Feature Film Oscar . and the number is almost double that of last year. Nine films were selected as eligible last year, with Shrek taking home the inaugural award, and for 2002 the Academy has named seventeen eclectic candidates, including Adam Sandler's 8 Crazy Nights, The Powerpuff Girls Movie, and Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie. Disney's two high-profile animated offerings this year . the hit Lilo & Stitch and the flop Treasure Planet . also qualified, as well as Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, which the Mouse distributed in what was considered a badly mismanaged marketing campaign. Two films' eligibility . Eden and The Wild Thornberrys Movie . is predicated on their opening prior to December 31 in Los Angeles. Under the rules governing the award, a maximum of five films may be nominated; nominees will be announced February 11, along with all the other Oscar noms.
