The Shrek franchise-which also includes Shrek (2001), Shrek the Third (2007), and Shrek Forever After (2010)-are based on a children's picture book written and illustrated by American cartoonist William Steig.
In the third film it is shown that a baker "repairs" the broken leg using frosting between the events of the first and second films.
Due to the UK's strict policy with regard to several fighting techniques, one scene had to be altered that shows Fiona headbutting Prince Charming. In the U-classified version a karate chop can be seen.
