Although Kerry Washington finds the fact that she’s receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame “surreal,” her father, Earl Washington, thinks she should’ve gotten a star a lot sooner.
“Anytime he would hear that somebody was getting one, he was like, ‘Why don’t you have one?’” Washington tells Variety, laughing as she recounts their conversations. “I was like, ‘I don’t know, Dad. I don’t make those decisions.’ So I feel like he’s manifested this moment. I’m excited that I get to share it with him.”
Washington’s father is right. She could’ve been honored anytime in her nearly 25-year career — with a resume highlighted by standout turns in films like “Save the Last Dance,” “The Last King of Scotland,” “She Hate Me” and “Ray,” all before she landed the role of D.C. fixer Olivia Pope on ABC’s “Scandal.

It’s a good year for the musically inclined. This awards season is full of actors who sing. And that doesn’t just mean the performers who were already known for their vocal chops like musical theater star Cynthia Erivo and pop singer Ariana Grande in “Wicked.” There are a number of singing actors for whom music isn’t their primary claim to fame, like Timothée Chalamet in “A Complete Unknown,” Zoe Saldaña in “Emilia Pérez,” Angelina Jolie in “Maria,” Kingsley Ben-Adir in “Bob Marley: One Love,” and even Saoirse Ronan in “Blitz.” Will those stars get a bump for showing their vocal range in addition to their dramatic range?
Some stars over the last 20 or so years were recognized for expanding their repertoires. Nicole Kidman earned an Oscar nom for the 2001 musical “Moulin Rouge!” — though her co-star Ewan McGregor was snubbed despite also doing his own singing. “Chicago” (2002) earned...

X-Ray Recaps will use generative AI to help viewers catch up on an episode, season or show without worrying about spoilers.
Obviously, the best way to get caught up on a TV series you’re a few episodes behind on is to go back and watch. But we don’t live in a perfect world; people have lives and responsibilities, and that doesn’t always leave time for viewers to go back and watch every episode of a show to get caught up. Prime Video knows that which is why it has announced the release of its new “X-Ray Recaps” feature, allowing viewers to catch up to exactly the point they need to in a given show.
Key Details: X-Ray Recaps uses generative AI to create synopses for TV episodes, shows, and seasons. Customers can choose to recap up to a specific point in a single episode if they choose and expand from there.

Amazon has turned to AI to create recaps for TV shows on Prime Video — starting with its own original series — in a way the company says won’t risk revealing spoilers.
On Monday, Amazon announced X-Ray Recaps on Prime Video, touting the generative-ai-based feature as “delivering a new way to get up to speed without wasting time or risking spoilers.” The system creates text of “brief, easy-to-digest summaries” of full seasons of TV shows, single episodes or specific segments of episodes “down to the exact minute of where you are watching,” the company said.
At launch, Prime Video viewers can use X-Ray Recaps for all Amazon MGM Studios original series including “The Boys” (pictured above), “Upload,” “Daisy Jones & the Six,” “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” and “The Wheel of Time.” X-Ray Recaps, currently in beta, is available now to users of Amazon’s Fire TV connected devices in the U.

Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs doesn’t have public support following his September 2024 arrest. Combs pleaded not guilty to charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He heads to trial in May 2025. Meanwhile, outsiders are trying to figure out which other celebrities are possibly involved in the case. Here’s what to know about Jamie Foxx’s possible involvement after the actor said he once filmed a party thrown by Combs.
Jamie Foxx allegedly filmed one of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ past parties
Sean “Diddy” Combs was known for his lavish parties. Hollywood A-listers and music stars clamored for an invite, as Combs’ parties were known as the biggest and wildest bashes around. Combs’ parties often started in the evening and lasted until 7 a.m., though famous folks knew that the parties that began at night were not the same types of parties that went into the morning.

Venom: The Last Dance hasn't received much in the way of critical acclaim, but for the most part, fans do appear to be enjoying Sony Pictures' latest Marvel movie.
Despite taking some major liberties with the comic books - something that's been a sticking point for many since Venom's release in 2018 - the threequel features plenty of fun Easter Eggs, references, and cameos. Some pay homage to the source material and others tie this movie to the wider Marve (Cinematic?) Universe.
In this feature, we're taking a deep dive into those, including nods to Ghostbusters, Spider-Man, and the King in Black's comic book history.

To celebrate the release of Exorcist II: The Heretic – out now on Blu-ray from Arrow Video – we have a copy up for grabs!
From John Boorman, the director of Point Blank and Deliverance, comes Exorcist II: The Heretic, a visionary metaphysical thriller that confounded audience expectation by delivering something unique and entirely unexpected.
It has been four years since the exorcism that saved the life of Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair) and caused the deaths of Lankester Merrin (Max Von Sydow) and Damien Karras, the priests who helped her. Regan remembers nothing, but her therapist Dr Tuskin (Louise Fletcher) believes those memories are simply repressed and waiting. Meanwhile, Father Philip Lamont (Richard Burton) – his own faith shaken by a failed exorcism – is tasked by the Vatican with investigating Father Merrin, who faces posthumous charges of heresy for his controversial writings. His investigation will lead him to Africa, New York and Georgetown...

Early in his career, Denzel Washington received some crucial advice from Sidney Poitier, the gist of which was that, as a young Black actor attempting to make his mark in the early 1980s, Hollywood would only give him three or four roles before passing judgment on his value as performer. There weren't many non-comedic Black stars to begin with at the time (especially with the then 50-something Poitier in the midst of a lengthy on-screen hiatus that lasted from 1977's "A Piece of the Action" to 1988's "Shoot to Kill"), so Washington's margin of error must've felt particularly slim, regardless of his undeniable talent.
He took the message to heart. There was a lot working against him in the white-dominated industry. And even if he "made it," the paucity of opportunities meant the competition to remain a prominent actor would always be fierce.

Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 2, as that’s when the 97th Academy Awards will air on ABC. A master of ceremonies has yet to be named for the annual trophy gala, so now is the perfect time to predict who might be tapped to host by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Remember, four-time emcee Jimmy Kimmel has decided to take a break this year, and comedian John Mulaney has also reportedly removed his name from contention. So who should host the 2025 Oscars? Vote in our poll below.
Obviously, one of the most important factors for the academy to consider when choosing an Oscar host would be their popularity. Who is famous enough to bring lots and lots of eyeballs to the ceremony and help sell those all-important ad dollars? And since the Academy Awards are broadcast in dozens of countries, it would help for that person to be famous worldwide.

Two big movies are on the slate for Brad Bird, including a decades-long passion project – Ray Gunn – and The Incredibles 3.
The last couple of days have brought us some big news regarding filmmaker Brad Bird’s upcoming slate.
The director of The Iron Giant has two huge films in the pipeline, including a project that he’s been looking to get off the ground for a very long time. That project is Ray Gunn, which according to The Wrap is now in production. The film is the story of ‘the story of the last human private detective, Raymund Gunn, in a future world composed of humans and aliens.’
The route to production for this project has been a slow one, with Bird having laboured to make it a reality for many years now.

It's been 17 years since Jake Kasdan delivered the definitive, beat-by-beat parody of the popular music biopic with "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story," but filmmakers keep churning out these cookie-cutter, rise-and-fall portraits of great artists. Even when done reasonably well, they're little more than jukebox musicals that play the greatest hits and misses of their subjects' lives. Worst of all, given that you need to license the songs from the artists or their estates, these subjects have creative control over their story –- i.e. they'll only get as ugly as the artist or their estate can bear.
This brings us to James Mangold's "A Complete Unknown." Mangold, who made one of the better music biopics of the 21st century in "Walk the Line," has wisely limited the scope of his Bob Dylan film to the artist's early-to-mid-1960s transformation from conscience-pricking folk singer to electric-guitar-wielding rock prophet. This...

The formula for making a successful music biopic in modern times has relied too much on repeating the same story over and over again, just with different characters. The recurring plot of rags-to-riches to booze, drugs, and partying, then eventually hitting rock bottom, then struggling to find a way back, and finally, redemption or death (or redemption in death), has become so common that one would think that the musicians and stars whose lives those films depict have lived the most boring and unoriginal existences. While the 21st century brought about completely new trends in how to create biopics of famous people (The Social Network) being the ideal example of that), music biopics still somehow lag and tend to stick more to the old assembly-line approach. Not every single one of them is like that, however. Things to do: Subscribe to The Hollywood Insider’s YouTube Channel, by clicking here.

Netflix’s popularity can be attributed to many different movies and shows, but, in my opinion, their horror anthology series Black Mirror was integral to their overnight success because I can remember obsessing over its brutal satire like it was yesterday. Then, the streaming platform’s Indian branch made Lust Stories, and the idea of provocative storytelling featuring Bollywood stars felt promising. Love, Death, and Robots became everyone’s favorite almost instantly, with its vivid style and precise storytelling. And then things sort of went downhill with absolutely trashy products like Ghost Stories, Ludo, Paava Kadhaigal, Pitta Kathalu, Ankahi Kahaniya, Ajeeb Dastans, Feels Like Ishq, Ray, and Lust Stories 2. The only diamond in the rough was Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. And it seems like Netflix has learned the right lesson from it and has brought another anthology series inspired by the works of an acclaimed director: Joko Anwar’s Nightmares and Daydreams.

From documentaries about war in Ukraine and Gaza to the sweetness of “Bluey” to the earthiness of “Somebody Somewhere” and “Reservation Dogs” to the Mel Brooks canon, the 84th annual Peabody Awards ceremony on Sunday saluted an array of standout TV programs, movies, documentaries, podcasts, video games and more.
The respected awards, adminstered by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communications, were held at the Beverly Wilshire hotel, marking the first time the Peabodys were handed out on the West Coast after decades in New York.
“Finally, Los Angeles gets an awards show,” host Kumail Nanjiani quipped at the start of the three hour-plus ceremony.
The high volume of conflict in the world and in the U.S. — from school shootings to hate crimes to the spike in political extremism — was reflected in the programs selected for this year’s honors and in the comments on stage from winners.
